INSIDE THIS WEEK: Taxi driver wanted after ‘driving into two people’ in road rage attack POLICE are looking for witnesses to come forward after a taxi driver allegedly drove into a man and pinned him against another car during a shocking road rage incident in Litherland. At around 6.25pm on Saturday, January 26, police were informed the occupants of a black 3 Series BMW were involved in a confrontation with the driver of a private hire taxi. The taxi driver is alleged to have driven into a man and woman after they left their vehicle, pinning the man in between the two vehicles and causing him a minor leg injury, as well as damage to their vehicle. The taxi is described as a black Peugeot Expert private hire, with a yellow sign on the roof, with two front seats, and five in the back. The driver is described as white, mid 30s, with a round face, dark sandy, wavy hair, and a stocky build. He wore a dark jacket with a collar. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of this taxi and speak to the driver. Detective Constable Donna Oakley said: “The exact circumstances of this incident are unclear but it appears to be a case of road rage, in which we believe a car was driven towards the victims, thankfully not resulting in more serious injuries. “It would have been extremely distressing to experience or witness and I want to appeal for anyone who saw this incident, who was passing with dashcam or has home or business CCTV to come forward. “Any piece of information you have could be vital to this ongoing investigation.” Anyone with information or who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the social media desk @MerPolCC, call 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

TWO MEN RESCUED FROM SINKING SANDS

Photographers were taking sunset pictures when they got trapped in rising water and had to be rescued by RNLI Report by Tom Martin

TWO photographers who were taking pictures of the sunset on Crosby beach became trapped in sinking sand and had to be rescued by the RNLI. The two men, along with their camera equipment, were stuck in the rising water which had reached their waist by the time rescuers were able to get to them. They became trapped during fast-flooding water at around three hours before high tide on Saturday, February 16. The lifeboat crew from the RNLI were called out at 5.15pm and they were helped by the Coastguard Rescue helicopter. They encountered problems because the tide was not deep enough for the RNLI inshore lifeboat, Noma Ethel Vinall, to reach the casualties, so volunteer RNLI New Brighton Lifeboat Helm Jay Hennessey had to enter the water to help the men get out. He said: “The plan was to assess the two casualties before deciding the best course of action for getting them out. “But once with them I realised how much of a precarious situation they were in, so I got down on my knees to spread myself further and started digging them out. “The mud was quite soft, so it hadn’t fully taken

hold, and once freed a little both men were able to move. “As we headed towards our lifeboat, we had to move as quickly and as lightly as possible for fear of sinking further. “Fortunately, the water had risen enough by then that our lifeboat could come alongside and we were able to get both casualties onboard.” RNLI helm Shaun Wright steered the lifeboat towards the casualties, while RNLI lifeboat crew members Rob Kershaw and Jay Hennessey helped the men onboard.

GREAT DEALS ON BEDS!

As the casualties had been in the water for around 25 minutes, they were transferred to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service’s Marine Rescue Unit who were on stand-by before being taken to hospital for a precautionary assessment. RNLI New Brighton Lifeboat Helm Jay Hennessey added: “As we get warmer weather, we advise everyone visiting our beaches to watch for muddy areas. Also to avoid crossing wide, flat estuaries and bays where these are more common. If you are in difficulty or spot someone else in trouble, always dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
