INSIDE THIS WEEK: Housing plans for school site given the green light PLANS to build 185 houses on the site of a former high school in Litherland have been approved by Sefton Council. The local authority took the decision at a Planning Committee meeting held on Wednesday, January 15 when the green light was given for Bellway Homes to build on land off Orrell Road. The site used to be occupied by St Wilfrid’s High School before it was clsoed and demolished in 2012. There were some objections to the plans from local residents, who complained that the new houses will lead to traffic problems and congestion in the area. There was also an objection because none of the 185 houses had been designated as ‘affordable housing.’ However, the council has given the housing firm permission to start construction on the site. As part of the plans, Bellway Homes has agreed to pay £600,000 to help replace outdated football pitches and changing rooms somewhere in the local area.

Report by Tom Martin THE parents of talented ballet dancer Valentina Sanna from Crosby who tragically died from meningitis want to set up a charity in her memory “to help other young artists achieve their dreams.” Valentina passed away on January 1, aged just 14, after contracting a rare form of meningitis while visiting family on the island of Sardinia in Italy. The teenager had told her parents on Boxing Day that she was suffering from a severe headache and died on New Year’s Day after spending three days in hospital.
