A MAN was shot in the back on a busy road in Bootle. The 21-year-old victim, who is in a serious but stable condition in hospital, was targeted when the area was busy with rush hour traffic on Aintree Road at around 5.45pm on Friday, November 29. Police are hopeful that witnesses will be able to help with their investigation. Detective Inspector Lee Wilkinson said: “This incident happened on a busy road in the early evening and we believe people out there know or will have seen or heard something. “This is a targeted attack which has caused the victim serious injuries and also presented a significant threat to the wider public. “Nobody in the community wants to be at risk from the threat of weapons on their streets, so stand with us and we will take positive action. “In recent weeks, information from our communities has led to arrests, seizures and other action. “This continues daily and only yesterday, a firearm was recovered in Bootle. “If you come forward with what you know, the results can make a massive difference. “You can speak to police directly, or anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers, or via local authorities. However you get the information to us, do so now.” Anyone with information, home or business CCTV, dashcam or other footage can contact 101, or DM us @MerPolCC quoting ref 0734 of 29 November, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The industrial action was held on Friday, November 29 when workers with placards and flags gathered next to the tax office on Stanley Road. The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) members also handed out leaflets to members of the public as they tried to spread the word about their campaign. The Champion reported last month how the HMRC told more than 80 people that they were no longer needed despite signing contracts keeping them until January. They had been hired by the tax office through recruitment agency Brook Street to work in the Business Tax and Customs directorate to help the department with work generated by Brexit. The staff had been recruited to work until at least the start of January, but now find themselves out of

roles.” An HMRC spokesperson said: “We have to keep our temporary staffing needs under review. “We have properly remunerated all those leaving us for their contracted hours and have allowed time for them to seek alternative employment.”
