NEW HOUSING PLAN COULD TRANSFORM EYESORE SITE
Have they any pride at all? JUST who would do something like this, pictured right? It seems the answer lies with people bereft of any pride whatsoever in their surroundings. The despairing scene is the latest flytipping outrage in the town described by residents as ‘disgusting’ and ‘shameful’. Rubbish, including mattresses, beds, unwanted furniture, bin bags of household waste and even a child’s buggy were dumped in the alleyway off Earl Road. Locals were quick to condemn the incident on social media after an image of the mess appeared online on Thursday, August 22, with one person saying: “People who dumped this should be ashamed of themselves - they obviously have no pride in where they live.”

The flytipping in an alleyway off Earl Road
AN eyesore stretch of land which has been plagued by flytipping and vandalism, could be transformed into 91 houses and an apartment block. The Carroll Group have earmarked land off Dunningsbridge Road, Netherton for the development, with properties ranging from family homes to a block of 58 apartments suitable for over 55s. The large field, which is ‘L shaped' and located next to Goals 5-a-side football pitches, used to be Everton FC ’s Youth Academy until it closed in 2007 and it has remained vacant ever since. Over the past 12 years, it has become overgrown and a hotspot for

flytipping, with the housing developers describing it as ‘unsightly and extremely poor’. A planning application has been submitted to Sefton Council for permission. The report states: “The proposal will provide 149 dwellings including 91 family homes and 58 apartments which are suitable for, but not restricted to, the over 55s to encourage empty nesters to downsize and free
up their larger homes for new families. “The aim of the scheme is to create a modern high-quality development that relates to and respects the character of the surrounding area. The proposals represent an opportunity to regenerate a vacant site to provide a 100% affordable residential scheme. “The site is overgrown, unsightly and subject to extensive flytipping, trespass and anti-social behaviour. There are no sports facilities on the site. Its current value to the community is entirely negligible and in its current state would present dangers should anyone enter it. “There has been no public access to the site for general amenity or recreational purposes for at least 40 years. The condition of the site is extremely poor. Continued inside
