Court told Netherton man ran ‘massive commercial enterprise’ selling Shar-Peis and French Bulldogs Report by Kenny Parker AN unlicensed dog breeder from Netherton made nearly £60,000 from illegally breeding and selling puppies, a court was told. Lawrence Moran, 31, of Chapel Lane, appeared at Sefton Magistrates Court last Friday (August 16) after previously pleading guilty to breeding dogs without a licence and to breaching an enforcement notice issued by Sefton Council The latter charge stated that he had failed to take steps listed in a notice used in August 2015 to permanently reduce the number of dogs and puppies kept on his premises to no more than six in total. Sefton Council told the court that 44 dogs, including several puppies, were found at his home address in December 2018. Further investigations by the authority ’s Trading Standards team uncovered that he had also been responsible for at least 17 litters and 49 puppies in

2018, including Shar-Peis and French Bulldogs. The court heard that Moran was selling Shar-Pei puppies for an average of £2,250 and French bulldog puppies for an aver-
age of £800. He was said to have made £59,500 from the trade. Moran also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of breeding dogs without a licence made against his company LKLM Group UK Ltd. He was sentenced to 120 hours unpaid community work, fined £285, and ordered to pay costs of £4,700. Sefton Council has welcomed the sentencing of Moran. Following the court hearing, Councillor Paulette Lappin, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Regulation & Compliance, said: “This is a fantastic result following months of hard work by our Trading Standards team. “We had previously warned the defendant about unlicensed breeding following allegations by concerned members of the public however our concerns continued and a warrant was issued. “What our team uncovered was a dog breeding enterprise on a massive commercial scale.
