WE’VE GOT OUR EYE ON YOU - COUNCIL WARNS FLYTIPPERS
INSIDE THIS WEEK...
CCTV plan to catch culprits who leave their Awards for rubbish on Bootle street volunteers Report by Tom Martin
Bin bags on Stanley Road
FLYTIPPING including piles of bin bags left on a Bootle road has become so bad that Sefton Council is looking to install CCTV cameras in a bid to catch the culprits. Letters have been sent to residents to inform them that the local authority will crackdown on rubbish being left on the pavement along the stretch of Stanley Road opposite North Park. Those living in the homes aren't given wheelie bins by the council, so bin bags are supposed to be left on the pavement the night before collection day. However, bin bags are appearing days before, meaning they pile up and attract seagulls and cats who tear them open and leave litter strewn across the pavement and road. The council are now saying they will discuss the possibility of installing CCTV cameras on the road in a desperate bid to stop it from happening. The letter posted to local homes last week, urged locals to only put bin bags out the night before bin collection – and

also asked any landlords and owners to inform their tenants. The letter states: “Sefton Council has received numerous complaints concerning bags of waste and other items flytipped on the pavement of Stanley Road, opposite North Park before your tenants nominated collection day. “As landlords, or owner occupiers Sefton Council would appreciate your assistance in ensuring all tenants/residents are fully informed of their legal responsibilities in relation to disposing of their domestic waste. Prosecution “If tenants/residents fail to adopt the information, fixed penalty notices will be served to all offenders up to £400, and/or may result in prosecution being taken. Given the amount of flytipping placed out on the pavement in advance of your nominated collection day, Sefton Council is looking to install CCTV within this immediate area to identify offenders. “The collection point where your waste should be placed is the front of your property, if you have a wheelie bin, this should be used for storage only. This area is on a weekly bag collection, any waste presented in bins will not be removed.”
