Santander on Stanley Road

Cash box stolen in raid on bank BANK robbers crashed a car into a Santander branch in Bootle before fleeing the scene with an ATM cash box. The raiders used a silver Mazda saloon to drive into the bank on Stanley Road at around 7.40pm on Friday, March 15. Merseyside Police are investigating the cash in transit robbery and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. A spokesperson said: “The offenders managed to gain access to the bank by forcing the doors before making off in the car with a cash box. “The car is believed to have travelled towards Stanley Road in the direction of the city centre, then turning right along Merton Grove, in front of the Gala Bingo Hall. Following this, at around 9pm, a car believed to be involved in the incident was located on Eldon Place. However the offenders are currently outstanding. “Officers are continuing their investigations by undertaking CCTV, forensic and house to house enquiries but are asking anyone that witnessed the incident to contact @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting log 895 of 15/3/19 - any information you have, no matter how small, could lead us to the individuals responsible for this crime.”

A NETHERTON cafe is raising money to feed hundreds of children from families in poverty, over the school holidays. Gourmet Cafe, on Marian Square, is owned and run by Chris Brown who has come up with a ‘Holiday Hunger’ campaign to provide meals to youngsters across the local area. He has developed links with three schools and over the Easter holiday he is expected to deliver hot meals to around 60 children as well as welcome them into his cafe if they are able to travel.

But ambitious Chris has plans to reach even more youngsters across Sefton and Liverpool, so an ongoing fundraiser has been set-up to allow locals to donate to help him pay for more food and deliveries. Chris told the Champion: “This project is entirely self-funded and as far as I’m aware no one else is doing anything like this Holiday Hunger campaign. It started by us taking food into the city centre to feed homeless people and the idea developed from this.” Already on board with Holiday Hunger are Our Lady of Walsingham Primary School, Holy Spirit Primary School, and St Oswalds Primary School, all in Bootle.
