Bumper Birthday Edition The Champion Celebrates 25 YEARS of Serving the Local Community

Public to have say on plans for tower block DEVELOPERS behind plans to reopen Irlam House as an extra care facility will hold public consultations to get feedback from locals. The Champion reported last week how a firm called VVHC want to transform the high rise tower in Bootle by re-cladding the building and carrying out a wide-scale refurbishment to the inside flats. Some locals who would rather see the tower demolished, after labelling it an ‘eyesore’, have started a petition against the proposal in the hope of persuading Sefton Council to reject the planning application. The architects behind the plans, Liverpool-based Condy Lofthouse, will ask residents for their views on its proposals at two local events. The first will be held at The Lock & Quay pub, on Irlam Road, between 3.30pm – 6pm today (Wednesday, March

Anthony Russell

BOOTLE’S Anthony Russell says he is ‘heartbroken’ after dropping out of the X Factor tour due to ‘personal reasons’. The 29-year-old released a lengthy statement to say he couldn’t carry on with the live shows, which are touring the country at the moment, after making the ‘difficult decision’ to quit. It has sparked fresh rumours about Anthony’s personal life and his battle with drugs. He was forced to deny drug-related claims when he dropped out of the X Factor finals in 2017 but returned to the show a year later and came third, seemingly with his troubles behind him. But in an emotional post on social media, Anthony confirmed he had withdrawn from the tour. He said: “I want to address this personally with you all so the people who have supported and loved me on my journey know where I am. Due to personal circumstances I've had to withdraw from the tour. “I’m heartbroken to miss the shows, it has been an honour to sing to you all and a dream come true. It was not a decision made lightly but unfortunately

private circumstances out of my control have meant it’s not currently possible for me to continue forward with further dates. “I’m so sorry to anyone who was looking forward to seeing me, I love and appreciate you all so much and it’s killing me to think anyone is going to be let down. “Thank you again and always for all of the love and support you give me, you have all changed my life and given strength I’ve never had before. I promise that once my personal situation is in order I will work hard, continue to write music and make it up to you all in any way I can. “I hope you all have the best time at the rest of the shows and I’m so sorry again I can’t be there. Thanks so much to all the X Factor crew, all my love to all the other acts, dancers and musicians – continue to smash it! I love you all to pieces.” In last year’s show, Anthony proved to be a big hit with viewers having been personally mentored by One Direction star and X Factor judge Louis Tomlinson who took Anthony under his wing following his problems in 2017. An X Factor spokesperson said: “Anthony has had to leave the tour for personal reasons. We would appreciate people respecting his privacy and wish him well for the future.”
