Street flood fears rise again for residents RESIDENTS whose homes were severely damaged in flooding ten years ago believe it could happen again after a recent spate of drainage problems. In 2010, locals who live on Bulwer Street had to evacuate their homes after sewage water flooded the road and entered their houses, ruining furniture and floorboards. Some residents had to move into rented accommodation for up to five months while their home was repaired and they say they still have nightmares about the ordeal ten years on. Continued on page 8
On set of Not Just Cooking.
Film maker helps YKids produce their own YouTube show BOOTLE children’s charity, YKids, has launched its own YouTube show on healthy eating after being taught the craft of filmmaking by a company based in Ormskirk. Barber Green (BG) Digital Community Interest Company was set up by Gene Dolders with the purpose of giving people in the community access to training in all aspects of video production. It also wants to help others by giving them a creative outlet in order to express themselves through a visual medium. Backed by funding from the National Lottery, BG Digital has been working with YKids to help
them launch a show on YouTube called ‘Not Just Cooking’. Over three months, BG Digital took YKids through the planning stages for two episodes of the show, and then through the filming and editing of it. The work culminated in a launch at Plaza Cinema in Crosby. Clare Morgans, CEO of YKids, said the project was “brilliant” and much enjoyed by the children and families that took part. The Lottery funding also bought the group filming equipment and Clare says they hope to produce more episodes once they are able to secure more funding. More inside

TRIBUTES TO DAD, 44, WHO DIED WATCHING SON PLAYING FOOTBALL Tony O’Neil with son, Joe, and daughter, Georgia
TRIBUTES have been paid to a Bootle dad who passed away when watching his son play football. Tony O’Neil died on Wednesday, February 19 in Birkenhead where he was watching 11-year-old son, Joe, play for Wrexham AFC at a half-term tournament at a local school. The 44-year-old, who had left the pitchside to go back to his car for a cup of tea, was found inside the vehicle not
breathing by his son and despite others coming to his aid, he tragically passed away. The cause of death at this stage is not known, but a fundraising page has been set-up which has raised more than £5,000 for his family. Adam Raby, who was Tony’s friend, created the GoFundMe page. He said: “Tony passed away in his car doing what he loved most - watching his son play football. More on page 8
