MOTORISTS URGED ‘SLOW DOWN’ ON DANGER ROAD ‘Scary crashes’ lead to calls for safety measures to be put in place on busy highway Report by Tom Martin CONCERNED residents and pedestrians are urging motorists to slow down on a busy Bootle road after several crashes when vehicles have smashed into trees and garden walls. Locals are concerned someone could be seriously injured if vehicles continue to travel over the 30mph speed limit and there have been numerous recent incidents when cars have veered off the road. On Wednesday, January 22 at around 10.15pm, a car collided with a garden wall next to the roundabout connecting Southport Road with Aintree Road. In other recent incidents, gates to a substation were badly damaged when they were hit by a motorist and a tree was knocked down on a central reservation when a car came off the road. Residents believe the problem is speeding and
permanent speed cameras need to be installed or speed bumps need to be created in an effort to slow down traffic. Worried pensioner, Janet Barlow, 82, who lives nearby, said: “It’s only a matter of time A tree before someone is hit by knocked a car which has been over by a car going too fast. There in a recent have been some scary collision crashes in the last few weeks when it’s been fortunate that no one has been walking along the pavement when these cars smash into walls and trees. “There needs to be speed cameras put right along this road because people who drive on here every day know that they can get away with going over 30mph. “The police will set-up the mobile speed cameras every now and then but it’s always in the exact same position so people know exactly when to slow down and then they’ll just speed up again when they get past it.”
Prince William and Everton goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, chat with a pupil from Springwell Primary School in Bootle
Eyes down as youngsters meet future king... for game of bingo! CHILDREN from a Bootle school met Prince William last week to enjoy a game of bingo! Youngsters from Springwell Primary School were invited to a special event held at Everton in the Community on Thursday, January 30 where The Duke of Cambridge sat with the pupils to take part in a game of ‘emoji bingo’.
The aim of the game, which was also enjoyed by some of Everton’s first team players, was to highlight different emotions and feelings, and was played with the ‘Heads Up’ mental health campaign in mind which is spearheaded by the Prince. A delighted spokesperson for the school, said: “Well done to our Springwell
ambassadors who attended the Everton in the Community event. “They were a real credit to the school and we are so proud of them. “Memories were made when they met HRH Prince William and Everton first team players.”
