PARKING PROBLEMS SOLVED... Report by Tom Martin

A BOOTLE resident's delight that the council were planning to crack down on motorists leaving their cars outside her home quickly turned to anger when she found out the solution is to charge people living on the road £30 for a parking badge! The woman, who did not want to be named, lives on Bedford Road and recently found out that Sefton Council planned to stop people leaving their cars on her street following complaints from those living in the area.

...but furious residents will pay the price of council crackdown! The Champion has reported in the past how locals have hit out at visitors, students and staff at nearby Hugh Baird College for causing parking problems on residential streets. In response, the local authority has introduced a residents-only parking scheme on Bedford Road - and people living there have to stump up £30 to sign up for the scheme. And they say that if they don't pay the £30 fee, they run the risk of being handed

a fixed-penalty-charge notice from a traffic warden when they park their own vehicles in the road. She said: “We've been living here for years so why should we suddenly have to pay £30 to park outside our own homes? It feels like we are being punished for other people parking on our road. “It started happening about a year and a half ago with people coming to Hugh Baird but parking for free on the surrounding roads.
