Welcome
Dear Member,
Welcome to May! The school year may be winding down, but our education department continues to provide educational content for students, parents and educators. Check out our websites for family webinars and virtual field trips from Ohio Learns 360 to career exploration from A to Z Career Lab and Engineering Your Future to the latest in educational technology from our podcast, For the Love of EdTech
Our production team has created new videos for our digital series The Baking Journal , which are available on our websites and YouTube. New episodes of our Brick by Brick podcast are available on your favorite podcast app and on our websites.
Our new documentary on Dayton-based artist and educator William ‘Bing’ Davis, originally scheduled to premiere this month, has been moved to the fall. Keep an eye on future issues of this magazine for more information.
Starting this month, we’re launching our Local Production Showcase on Sunday afternoons. Tune in to CET and ThinkTV16 to watch local documentaries, programs and specials that focus on the people and places that exist in the communities we serve.
Speaking of programming, PBS has some wonderful offerings this month. “The Longest Goodbye” from Independent Lens follows NASA psychologists as they work with astronauts to prepare them for a threeyear-long mission to Mars. “Grizzly 399” from Nature tells the story of the most famous grizzly bear in the
Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Photographic Justice: The Corky Lee Story provides an intimate portrait of the life, work and advocacy of Chinese American photographer, Corky Lee. NOVA ’s “Secrets in Your Data” explores what happens to all the personal data we end up sharing through social media and surfing the web and examines the risks and potential benefits.

PBS celebrates Memorial Day and honors our veterans, service men and women and military families with the National Memorial Day Concert , live from Washington, D.C. on Sunday, May 26.
From our educational service projects to our local productions to PBS national programming – all of it is made possible because of you. Thank you for supporting your local public television stations.

Celebrate Cincinnati Figures on SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar

This May, SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar proudly spotlights John and Susan Tew, prominent figures in Cincinnati’s health and wellness community. Join us for an engaging conversation - originally highlighted in April - as we delve into their remarkable contributions and dedication to improving our city’s well-being. Then, after a brief hiatus in July and August, new episodes will return in September, perfectly timed with Cincinnati’s vibrant arts season, which spans from September to June. We’re looking forward to helping you stay connected to the pulse of the city’s cultural scene while bringing you enriching discussions. Thank you for watching!
Bing Davis Documentary Premiere Moves to the Fall
In previous issues of this magazine, we had announced that our documentary about Dayton’s Willis “Bing” Davis would be released in the spring. Now, to better accommodate the PBS schedule and the start to the arts season, we have decided to move that premiere to early October. We will be sharing additional information as it becomes available. We know everyone is excited to see this film and we appreciate your patience!

Member Spotlight: Merrille E. from Oakwood, Ohio
Merrille has been a member of ThinkTV for three years. Merrille’s early childhood started with PBS. She is almost the same age as Sesame Street! Merrille watched Sesame Street, The Electric Company and Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood every day in her youth. When her daughter was born, she also started watching children’s programing on PBS/ThinkTV. Merrille says the programs taught her daughter excitement and appreciation for reading, science, fairness and kindness. Although her daughter is 15 now, she still talks fondly about Sesame Street, Daniel Tiger, Dinosaur Train, Word Girl, Sid the Science Kid and many more PBS KIDS shows. They attribute her success in part to PBS Kids programming.
Merrille became a member because she is inspired by the continued quality of the programming on ThinkTV. She loves PBS because of the amazing shows available like Finding Your Roots, Call the Midwife, Rick Steves, Masterpiece Mystery and Nature. All Creatures Great and Small is one of her favorites because it has such heart and great lessons in life. Finding Your Roots has inspired her to do her own genealogical study. She has learned so much about history, family and has the appreciation of knowing where she comes from.
Some PBS personalities who have inspired Merrille include Mr. Rogers, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Ken Burns and Rick Steves. Mr. Rogers is special to her for his kindness and wonderful nature. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. teaches her something new every time she watches him. Ken Burns has given her lessons in history, and Rick Steves provides travel to beautiful places as well as history and cultural lessons.
Merrille lives in Oakwood with her husband, daughter and pets. They love old movies and nature. Merrille says, “It’s a given that we will continue to support PBS/ThinkTV because of all the ways it has enriched our lives.”
If you love PBS and would like to possibly have your testimonial in a future edition of the magazine, please email us at mservices@thinktv. org or membership@CETconnect.org.

Staff from CET and ThinkTV continue our partnership with Adopt-a-Class with the Hays-Porter School, just two blocks from CET. On our recent visit with one of the Kindergarten and first grade classrooms, we talked about the “character capes” we wear. While we may not have the ability to shoot lightning bolts or water from our wrists, we do have remarkable, unique strengths that we can use every day.
One student wrote “I am loved by PBS Kids.” Your support of PBS enables all children to find and weave their own “super power” capes every day.
