November 2025 Public Media CONNECT Member Program Guide

Page 1

Welcome

Dear Member:

It’s the season of giving and, although it is a challenging time for public broadcasting, we have much to be thankful for. From the support of members like you to the generosity of local and national foundations, your contributions enable us to continue our work for the communities we serve in Southwest Ohio.

I want to thank everyone who attended screenings of Ken Burns’ latest documentary, The American Revolution, last month at the Cincinnati Museum Center and Miami University Middletown. Attendees enjoyed a preview of the film and a panel discussion led by local educators and historians. This month, we’re partnering with the Dayton Metro Library (DML) for a Town Hall focused on our community affairs program, Brick by Brick: Solutions for a Thriving Community. The event will be held at DML’s main campus in downtown Dayton.

Our production team received well-deserved recognition in late September when it was announced that our documentary, Jeffrey’s Journey, won the Public Media Award for Best Topical Feature from the National Educational Telecommunications Association.

Speaking of local productions, this month you’ll find new episodes of Stephanie’s Recipe Journal, The Art Show, and SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar, as well as new podcast and broadcast episodes of Brick by Brick: Solutions for a Thriving Community.

Also this month, your PBS stations recognize and celebrate our veterans beginning with Salute to Service 2025: A Veterans Day Celebration, hosted by country music legend Trace Adkins and the U. S. Army Field Band. Ken Burns’ The American Revolution premieres this month and examines the country’s founding struggle and its war for independence. The Great Escaper on Masterpiece is based on the true story of Bernard Jordan, a WWII veteran who staged a ‘great escape’ from his care home in 2014 to join fellow veterans on the beaches of Normandy to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

More PBS programming includes Bring Them Home, a documentary that tells the story of a small, determined group of Blackfoot people striving to re-establish the first wild buffalo herd on ancestral lands in nearly a century. Great Performances presents Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” starring Peter Dinklage, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Sandra Oh. From community events to award-winning documentaries and local productions, there’s a lot to be grateful for and it’s all possible because of you. Thank you for supporting CET and ThinkTV

November Highlights

Salute to Service 2025: A Veterans Day Celebration

Monday, November 10, at 9pm on CET and ThinkTV16

Honor the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans with an evening of powerful music and heartfelt storytelling. The celebration features personal stories of duty and resilience from service members, along with performances by Angel Blue, Kurt Browning, Trace Adkins and the U.S. Army Field Band.

Secrets of the Dead “Picturing Shakespeare”

Wednesday, November 12, at 10pm on CET and ThinkTV16

Trace the investigation of a William Shakespeare portrait and the debate over its authenticity. There are only two accepted portraits that are considered “official,” but a third that’s been hanging over a mantlepiece for the last 50 years could be worth as much as $200 million if proved genuine.

Great Performances “Twelfth Night”

Friday, November 14, at 9pm on CET Arts

Saturday, November 15, at 9pm ThinkTV16

Follow the romantic misadventures of shipwrecked twins in this new production of an audience favorite, recorded from Central Park’s newly renovated Delacorte Theater. Directed by Tony Award nominee Saheem Ali, the show’s star-studded cast includes Peter Dinklage, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Lupita Nyong’o, Sandra Oh and Daphne Rubin-Vega.

The Great Escaper on Masterpiece

Sunday, November 23, at 9pm on CET and ThinkTV16

Witness the true story of Bernard Jordan, who staged a “great escape” from his care home to join fellow war veterans to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day. The film traces his two-day journey to Normandy, along with the decades-long love story between him and his wife, Irene.

Bring Them Home

Monday, November 24, at 10pm on CET and ThinkTV16

Discover the story of a group of Blackfoot people striving to re-establish the first wild buffalo herd on ancestral lands since the species’ near-extinction a century ago. This film captures the decades-long efforts to restore buffalo along with the land, re-enliven traditional culture and bring much needed healing to the Blackfoot community.

Artistic, Musical and Culinary Icons on SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar

This November, SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar brings both fresh conversations and a look back at one of Cincinnati’s most iconic figures. We begin the month with an encore presentation featuring restaurateur Jeff Ruby, a conversation that can resonate with Cincinnatians any day. Ruby’s larger-than-life personality, iconic steakhouses and candid reflections capture not only his remarkable career, but also his lasting influence on the city’s dining culture.

Then, in a new episode, bassist Barry Green joins artist Brett Harper, son of Cincinnati-based artists Charley and Edie Harper, for a rich conversation about their careers and their shared mission to honor the legacy of Charley. Together they reflect on the ways Charley’s art

continues to inspire new generations here and beyond. In another new feature later in the month, we introduce Robert McGrath, the newly appointed President and CEO of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. McGrath discusses his vision for the CSO and what this new chapter means for the future of one of the nation’s leading orchestras.

Tune in for these premieres and the encore presentation Saturdays at 6:30pm on CET and Sundays at 8:30pm on CET Arts. You can also watch these episodes, along with the full SHOWCASE with Barbara Kellar library, anytime on our website or the PBS App. Learn more at CETconnect.org/showcase.

The muchanticipated series, which has been in production for eight years, was directed and produced by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt and written by longtime collaborator Geoffrey C. Ward. The film offers an expansive look at the virtues and contradictions of the war and the birth of the United States of America. Among the programs she enjoys most are Annika, Unforgotten, All Creatures Great and Small, Call the Midwife , and The Marlow Murder Club . She is drawn to strong, well-developed characters and engaging, meaningful stories.

PBS has been a part of Angela’s life since childhood, and she eagerly welcomed it into her home again when raising her own children. She watched Sesame Street and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood faithfully, never missing an episode. From Sesame Street , she learned her letters and sounds, and by age four she was reading books on her own. By first grade, she

was reading at an eighth-grade level, thanks only to preschool and PBS. Mister Rogers provided a calming presence in her chaotic and dysfunctional home, inspiring compassion and understanding for people from different backgrounds and cultures. Reading Rainbow was another favorite; Angela would rush to the library to check out every single book LeVar Burton recommended.

Angela supports CET and Think TV because she believes that in a time when scientific facts are being suppressed, access to high-quality educational resources is under threat, artistic expression is being stifled, and journalistic integrity is being diminished, it is vitally important to preserve these pillars of society. For Angela, PBS represents a cherished conduit for these values and its bright light must continue to shine in challenging times.
