FROM THE PRESIDENT

As I sat down to compose my letter for this edition of Uncorked, I was reminded of how fast time passes as we get a little older. Believe it or not, my one-year term as President of the Board of Governors is just about up! My months of service, particularly during the second half of the 60th Anniversary Year, really flew by.

Membership continues to grow, and it is noteworthy to remind all members of the important role you can play in introducing new prospects for Club membership. The growing membership has resulted in higher use of the Club, and that has bolstered the healthy financial condition we continue to enjoy. We also recently unveiled a new membership benefit—The Center Club Suite at CFG Bank Arena—which will provide our members with premier access to more than one hundred concerts and shows coming to the newly renovated arena this year. Learn more about this new benefit on our website.

Members are also taking advantage of Club-sponsored events in increasing numbers, so much so that several have sold out. Events to consider in the upcoming weeks include a unique High Tea in honor of the coronation of the King of England, the ever-popular Mother’s Day Brunch, and Trivia Night, which is generating significant interest. As we approach the early summer season, please keep The Center Club in your summer dining plans.

By the time you read this edition of Uncorked, the Board of Governors will be putting the final touches on the next version of the Club’s Five-Year Strategic Plan, which will address the continued emphasis on the excellent Club experience and value of membership through the provision of superior dining and special event offerings, as well as strategies for membership growth, recruiting and retaining dedicated, service-minded staff and comprehensive plans for major renovations of the 15th and 16th Floor kitchens.

If you should have an interest in learning more about the state of the Club and plans for the future, please join us at the Annual Meeting on June 7. This will also be an opportunity for you to meet my successor, Brad Chambers, if you do not already know him.

Author, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and instrument-rated private pilot, Beverly Weintraub, will visit the Club to discuss her book, Wings of Gold: The Story of the First Women Naval Aviators, which was named an Amazon Editors’ Pick for Best History. Weintraub details the story of groundbreaking Navy jet pilot, inspiring commander and determined and dedicated leader, Captain Rosemary Mariner, who was selected for Navy flight training as an experiment in 1972 and whose drive, along with her five fellow graduates from the inaugural group of female Naval Aviators, broke down barriers, opened doors for female aviators wanting to serve their country and ensured the United States military had its choice of the best America had to offer— both men and women.

Originally introduced during our May Cocktail Club event, we will be implementing the second phase of our gin infusion process as members add their own botanicals and ingredients to their gin. We will also provide three different gin-based cocktails throughout the evening. Must be a Cocktail Club member or first-time guest to attend. It is strongly encouraged that all Cocktail Club members attend the May Cocktail Club event so that we can develop a baseline profile for your gin. All gin will be available for pickup one week after this event so that the infusion process can be completed.

Welcome Michael Nitti

We are excited to welcome Michael Nitti to The Center Club team. Michael is our new Digital Communications & Marketing Manager in the Membership & Marketing Department. A New Jersey native and 2012 graduate of Towson University, he comes to us after serving 11 years as the Multimedia Production Manager at Loyola Blakefield, a private Catholic college preparatory school in Towson. He boasts a range of creative marketing skills including writing, photography, videography and graphic design.

A longtime resident of Baltimore City, he is excited about continuing and expanding upon the legacy of excellence that defines The Center Club brand.

2023 is off to a busy start. Members have enjoyed IntraClub and Interest Group events, attended the Mardi Gras party complete with good food, drinks and music and the Orioles Opening Day Party and two pre-concert tailgates. Viewpoints celebrated Women’s History month with amazing story sharing and we can’t forget about our Guest Bartender Night with several members stepping behind the bar.

Website Redesign

We officially launched our redesigned website in mid-April. This new design improves upon navigation and efficiency, while making the site more attractive for members and prospective members alike.

When you visit our site, you will notice things have moved and some areas may have a new name. An example of this is the My Club section once you are logged in. This area includes your profile, statements, etc.

You may also notice a cleaner and more uniform design for our event listings. Don’t worry, the calendar of events is still available if that is your preferred view.

Club Rules & Policies

RESERVATIONS

Reservations are recommended but walk-ins are welcomed. Please call Reception at 410-727-7788 or visit www.centerclub.org to make a reservation.

UNACCOMPANIED GUEST POLICY

Members can extend a Guest Card to a friend or colleague which allows them to use the Club unaccompanied. You are able to provide a Guest Card to two different people up to two times per year with no one unaccompanied guest being able to use the Club more than twice a year. Reservations must be made with Reception at least 48 hours in advance.

DRESS CODE

In all Club areas, including Bar100 and Joseph Meyerhoff Dining Room

A relaxed and well-dressed “smart casual” look is always welcome. Shirts without collars may now be worn and jackets are recommended. This does not include t-shirts or shirts with slogans or large graphics. Dark, untorn and nonfrayed denim can be worn. Sports logo apparel can be worn in Bar100 on game days only (Go O’s and Ravens!).

Joseph Meyerhoff Dining Room Jackets are not required. They are recommended for men when wearing a shirt without a collar.

Orioles Pub

Hemmed shorts and athletic shoes in good condition may be worn. T-shirts and shorts/logo-themed apparel in good condition may be worn. If you would like more detailed information or an updated copy of the House Rules, reach out to Emily Ober, Member Services Coordinator.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Cell phones, laptops and other similar devices may be used in all areas of the Club outside of the Joseph Meyerhoff Dining Room with discretion so as not to impose upon other members and their guests. Only handheld communication devices may be used silently in the Meyerhoff Dining Room. The use of speaker phones is prohibited and all devices must be silenced throughout the Club.

PARKING

Although parking is complimentary on weekends and after 4 PM on weekdays, the Club has a limited number of spaces between 7 AM–4 PM on weekdays and it is available on a first-come, first-served basis for a flat rate of $15. We apologize that we cannot reserve parking spaces for any member. Additional parking can be found directly across the street from the building at 30 Light Street Garage with entrances on Light and Lombard Streets. Parking in the 100 Light building is free after 4 PM and on weekends for Center Club members. Show an ID at the Charles Street entrance.
