UPDATES
UPDATE ON OLD CELINA PARK PLAYGROUND PROJECT
The Old Celina Park Playground project continues to progress on schedule, with key components nearing completion. Approximately 85% of the walkways have now been constructed, providing improved accessibility and connectivity throughout the site. The majority of the playground equipment has been successfully installed, offering a wide range of engaging features for children of all ages.
This week, the installation of the pavilions will take place utilizing crane equipment, marking another significant milestone in the project. Additionally, the splash pad is nearly complete, further enhancing the recreational offerings at the park.
SUNSET BOULEVARD INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS UNDERWAY
Significant progress has been made on the Sunset Boulevard Capital Improvement Project, with all sewer infrastructure installation now complete. The project has moved into the drainage improvement phase, which is expected to take approximately two to four weeks to finalize. Once drainage work is completed, crews will begin roadway improvements starting at Coit Road and proceeding westward. This phase will include excavation, placement of base material, and an asphalt overlay.
This project is a vital part of our continued investment in Celina’s infrastructure and directly benefits residents by improving roadway durability, enhancing drainage capacity to reduce flooding risks, and supporting long-term growth in the area. These improvements will result in safer, smoother travel for motorists and better protection for surrounding properties, reinforcing our commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable public infrastructure.
CELINA POLICE DEPARTMENT LAUNCHES “TAKE ME HOME” PROGRAM
The Celina Police Department has officially begun the rollout of the “Take Me Home” Program, a compassionate and proactive initiative designed to serve vulnerable members of our community. Originally developed by the Pensacola Police Department in Florida, this free, voluntary program provides critical support to families and caregivers of individuals who may become lost, disoriented, or face an emergency situation.
The program is specifically tailored for residents who may have difficulty communicating or may be unable to advocate for themselves in unfamiliar or high-stress environments. By enrolling a loved one in the program, families can ensure that first responders have access to vital information that can help them respond quickly and appropriately during a crisis.
In the coming weeks, the Celina Police Department will be collaborating with the City’s Marketing Department to develop a series of public service announcements aimed at raising community awareness and encouraging participation. This initiative reflects the City’s continued commitment to public safety, inclusion, and support for all residents.
COMMUNITY INVITED TO VOTE ON GATEWAY MONUMENT DESIGNS
The City of Celina is moving forward with the Celina Gateway Monumentation Plan, a strategic initiative aimed at creating a signature gateway feature that reflects the City’s vision, values, and growing brand identity. Initiated in Fall 2024, this effort is guided by recommendations from the 2040 Comprehensive Plan and the City’s Strategic Plan, both of which highlight the importance of establishing a consistent and welcoming entrance experience for residents and visitors.
Beginning this week, community members will have the opportunity to view and provide input on the final three monument design concepts. Each concept presents a distinct creative direction, and feedback gathered during this process will help determine the final design. The gateway monument will serve as a long-term visual marker of Celina’s identity and help create a meaningful first impression for those entering the community.

CELINA PUBLIC LIBRARY LAUNCHES 2025 SUMMER READING CHALLENGE
The Celina Public Library is preparing to launch its 2025 Summer Reading Challenge, an engaging annual program that encourages literacy, creativity, and community participation. Open to children and teens up to 18 years old, the challenge will run from May 30 through July 25 under this year’s theme, “Color Our World.” The program invites participants to read, log their minutes, and explore stories that inspire, entertain, and connect.
The initiative will kick off with a community celebration on Friday, May 30, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM in Council Chambers. Attendees can register, enjoy activities, and begin their reading journey. Beginning that day, participants can track their reading progress and visit the Library each Thursday to collect prizes as they reach designated reading milestones.
Throughout the summer, the Library will also host a Friday Performer Series, offering weekly entertainment and educational experiences designed to maintain engagement and excitement.
In addition to youth programming, the Library is also offering a parallel reading challenge for adults, ensuring that readers of all ages have the opportunity to take part in this community-wide celebration of reading.
CITY WELCOMES NEW TEAM MEMBERS
The City of Celina is pleased to welcome two new employees who joined the organization this week, further strengthening our team and supporting continued growth across departments. In addition, the Celina Economic Development Corporation (EDC) welcomed a new team member who will play an important role in advancing the City’s economic development initiatives. We look forward to the contributions each of these individuals will bring to their respective roles as we continue to serve the community with excellence.
DOWNTOWN CENTER AND PARKING GARAGE PROGRESS UPDATE
This week, Swinerton completed the final deck pour on the Downtown Parking Garage, marking a significant milestone in the project’s structural progress. Current work is focused on the installation of spandrel walls, concrete masonry units (CMU), metal stud framing, drywall, and electrical conduit, all of which are proceeding on schedule.
Simultaneously, the Downtown Center remains in the excavation and shoring phase. This critical foundational work is essential to ensure the stability and long-term integrity of the structure as vertical construction approaches.
