CITY UPDATES
STATE OF THE CITY JOINT TOWN HALL MEETINGS WITH CELINA ISD
The City of Celina is pleased to announce that we will be hosting two Joint Town Hall Meetings in collaboration with the Celina Independent School District to present our annual State of the City updates to residents. These meetings will provide a valuable opportunity for community members to learn about the exciting developments, initiatives, and projects shaping the future of our City.
The first Town Hall will take place on Thursday, February 27, at 6:30 PM at O’Dell Elementary School, followed by the second on Tuesday, March 4, at 6:30 PM at Bothwell Elementary School. We have strategically scheduled these meetings to ensure accessibility across different areas of Celina, making it convenient for residents to attend a Town Hall closer to their homes. We are excited for the opportunity to engage with our community, discuss the City’s progress, and highlight all of the great things happening in Celina.
FIRE DEPARTMENT PARTNERS WITH FRISCO FOR CRANE TRAINING EXERCISES
The Celina Fire Department, in collaboration with the Frisco Fire Department, successfully completed joint crane training exercises this past week, at the intersection of W. Walnut St and N. Colorado Dr. This specialized training ensured that both fire departments were well-prepared to handle complex emergency scenarios that may require crane operations for victim rescue or addressing hazardous situations.
These valuable exercises not only enhanced the skills of our firefighters but also strengthened the partnership between Celina and Frisco. By sharing resources and expertise, the two departments are now better equipped
to respond to a wide range of emergencies, ultimately ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in both communities. It is truly gratifying to see our cities working together in this manner, demonstrating a strong commitment to regional safety and resilience. This collaboration reaffirms our dedication to protecting the lives of our residents and ensuring that our first responders are equipped to handle any situation that arises.
FIRE DEPARTMENT TO HOST QUARTERLY OPEN HOUSE EVENTS FOR COMMUNITY
Beginning in March, the Fire Department will launch its first Quarterly Fire Station Open House, welcoming the community to connect with our firefighters and gain a deeper understanding of the vital role they play in keeping Celina safe. The event will take place on Saturday, March 15, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Fire Station #1.
These open houses provide an invaluable opportunity for residents to engage directly with our Fire Department, learn about fire safety, and experience firsthand the dedication and expertise of our firefighters. Strengthening the relationship between first responders and the community fosters trust, enhances public awareness, and reinforces the City’s commitment to safety.
To ensure our City Council Members remain actively engaged and accessible to residents, we have worked closely with Chief White and Chief Cullison to incorporate Council participation at these public safety open house events. These events will replace the Coffee with Council gatherings held in the past, allowing for a more dynamic and interactive setting. By integrating these engagement opportunities into our public safety open houses, we create an even greater platform for meaningful discussions on the issues that matter most to our community.
DOWNTOWN PARKING GARAGE: WORK UPDATE FOR FEBRUARY 8 - 14
Construction efforts for the Downtown Parking Garage will continue to focus on pouring perimeter and ramp walls, with columns progressing in their vertical expansion. Additionally, work will advance on underground utilities, including stormwater drainage, sanitary sewer installation, electrical and power conduits, and domestic water infrastructure.
CODE SERVICES EXPANDS NETWORK FOR CODE ENFORCEMENT
Celina Code Services began connecting neighboring Code Enforcement and Environmental Health teams for information sharing two years ago. This initiative has allowed municipalities to collaborate, discuss best practices, and seek feedback on emerging issues. What started as an email group has now expanded to quarterly roundtable discussions, initially involving four neighboring cities. Today, the group has grown to include 11 cities, along with Collin County.
At the most recent roundtable on January 29th, Sharelyn Drummonds from the City of Celina and Melissa Govea from the Town of Prosper led a discussion on their efforts to provide Continuing Education Credits for these sessions. While some details remain to be worked through, approval from the State is anticipated in the coming weeks. These roundtables provide a valuable opportunity to address key issues in Environmental Health and Code Enforcement that directly impact our region.
The strength of this growing network lies in the shared knowledge and diverse approaches to common challenges faced by many cities. Word of mouth has fueled its expansion, with these cities part of the group: Anna, Aubrey, Celina, Collin County, Farmersville, McKinney, Melissa, Princeton, Prosper, Shady Shores, and The Colony.
