When we hear the word hero, our mind goes to the incredible Marvel heroes such as Iron-Man, Black Widow, Spiderman, and many more. Our mind might even drift to DC heroes like Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman. While they are heroes and have superpowers and incredible (magical and nonmagical) gadgets; they are not the only ones to be considered that. Off cameras, we have what we call “Everyday Heroes, ” who are individuals who sacrifice (things or/and themselves) to help others. They are basically like movie heroes, but in real life. An example of an everyday hero would be William Ayotte, an older man who helped a woman being attacked by a polar bear, sacrificing his physical integrity. There’s also Jaclyn Corin, a young activist who created an anti-gun campaign from scratch.

Jaclyn Corin is an activist in her twenties. After being a victim of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (the school she attended), she decided to use what she went through to prevent more school shootings. Jaclyn was one of the hundreds of students who were at the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, on February 14, 2018. She and other survivors of the shooting started a movement called “March For Our Lives. She was knowledgeable because she was only seventeen years old when the campaign started and collaborating with other anti-gun activists and organizations. Jaclyn was also a risk-taker because she didn't know if other people would join the movement when it began. She also didn't know a lot about organizing protests, but she took the risk of doing them; meanwhile, collaborating with many organizations to educate herself and others about gun violence. Jaclyn was also very caring because she offered support to many victims of shootings, and also because the main goal of the movement she co-founded is to prevent shootings from happening; that way, caring for other people's health (physically and mentally).

Jaclyn Corin is an everyday hero because she sacrificed her time, so no other people experience what she experienced. She worked hard, hoping that others wouldn't have to witness a shooting. Jaclyn has many hero attributes, like being compassionate, brave and caring. All her hard work paid off when with that and her skills; she got accepted in Harvard and made the approval of law to be twenty-one years old minimum to buy a gun (in Florida). For all these reasons, Jaclyn is my everyday hero.
