My Hero: David Dunaway
Mariana Sánchez 3o Secundaria
A hero is a person who is willing to spend their time helping others just by helping them, without asking for something in exchange. Every little action can change someone's life. In this essay, I` m going to talk about David Dunaway and what he has done to be considered a hero.
David Dunaway is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in facial deformities, craniofacial tumors and vascular anomalies. He is the head of the craniofacial unit at GOSH (Great Ormond Street Hospital) in London. His surgeries have helped many people with facial deformities, for example Stefan Slavic who is a boy with Crouzon Syndrome. David is also known for separating two conjoined sisters, Safa and Marwa. They were joined by the head, so it was a very long and difficult surgery. David invests his time and money to help others. He investigates to find easier and effective ways to do surgeries. There is always a risk of death in every surgery, and David is well aware of that, and he is willing to take that risk.
Not only he is careful before, during and after his surgeries, but also he takes care of his patients physically and mentally. He studied many years to become a surgeon and help others. He wants to aid people who need urgent medical health as well as people who just want to change their appearance. Since he was a kid, he has been interested in surgeries. Apart from the surgeries he also donates money to Kansas City Ballet and gives classes so that more people can get help.
In conclusion he is the example of what I said about spending time to help others. It doesn't have to be a big action or to help a thousand people to mark a difference in someone's life. A hero can come from anywhere and can be any age because every person that uses at least ten minutes of their day in a human being is a hero.
