Located in Polanquito, Mexico City, Ouzeria by Stefan Petridis is a Greek type restaurant that brings a full experience of the Mediterranean directly to Mexico. The menu is very large with enough variety to bring joy to everyone, but their specialties are the dips. Their dips are very traditional Greek recipes that may look like hummus, but almost all of them are yogurt - based, giving a very refreshing taste.
One our stance there, we ordered one of their famous “Mezethes'' , or “Earth Starters'' called Kolokythakia kai melitzanes tiganitá, that is basically thin cut weathered eggplant and zucchini with tzatziki. The mix between zucchini and eggplant with tzatziki makes an explosion of flavor eliminating the bitter flavor of the eggplant. For our main course we ordered Paidakia arnisía, a marinated rack of lamb full of flavor cooked to perfection making the fat very subtle, eliminating all the weird textures. Also, we ordered Garides me ouzo, some giant shrimps with a creamy sauce made out of ouzo. The flavor is very overwhelming and the shrimps were overcooked, combined with the weird texture of the lumpy sauce. We disguised the strong flavor by adding some olive oil to the sauce and dipping the shrimps in a little bit of tzatziki. The environment found in the restaurant is very calm and charming with a very good service given by the staff. The whole place is open and outdoors making the experience way more calm and refreshing. The place is decorated with a very bright style with little to none decoration making it look bigger.
Personally, I recommend trying these experience at least once because the food offered isn’t common, but the options are very complete for everyone. Trying food from other countries gives your palate way more knowledge and options to choose. Ouzeria opens at 1:00 p.m. and closes at 11:30 p.m. on weekdays and 9:30 p.m. on weekends.
