The Cave Newspaper FEATURED STORY BACK TO BUSINESS
Welcome to the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus!
After two whole years of having a dormant campus environment, the Cave Hill Guild Council made it their duty to see a full revival of campus life following the resumption of face-to-face classes. In semester one, the guild council brought the vibes and showed the students what the Cave Hill Campus looked like before the pandemic with a wide range of student activities such as sports days, panel discussions, food days, and of course, fetes! Now that the campus has had a proper revival and we are in semester two, the Guild Council now gets back to business! Whilst last semester would have exposed the students to many of our active country associations and their culture, this semester is going to be more centered around the guild council and its various sub-committees. These include faculties, academic clubs, halls of residence, and our council’s standing committees.
These standing committees are very popular for events such as integration week, the most highly anticipated carnival week, and even more importantly, the Guild election season. If you haven’t already, follow the Guild Instagram page @cavehillguild to keep track of the weeks with the pinned calendar. Kicking off the semester, the Guild of Students participated in the UWI Cave Hill’s 60th anniversary parade, where students came out in their flags and colors to march together with staff and
administration. This gave the students the opportunity to showcase both regional and Blackbird Pride in addition to raising funds by selling food from their respective countries. Admin has since thanked the Guild Council on numerous accounts in making the event such a huge success by rallying the students and getting them prepared and organized. With so much more to talk about and just one more semester to go, the Guild Council encourages you the students to share your thoughts with us.

New Editions with every issue!
As a regional student coming straight out of secondary school in Trinidad, I have had to do some adjusting to university life in Barbados. While there are many familiar aspects of life in Barbados it was a challenge being away from my family and friends for the first time. However, I applied to the MBBS degree as I have always wanted to study medicine and that drive has only strengthened since my arrival. I was able to make it through my first semester unscathed and moving forward I hope to get more involved within the university and make a positive impact during my time here at Cave Hill. I have joined two committees within the MSA and I plan on improving from here in all aspects, from my involvement with the MSA to my academics. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Cave Hill thus far and am grateful to have met such amazing individuals. I am hopeful that there will be many more good times to come in the future!

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
Face Edition TO Face -
From Fear to Love
Relationships require vulnerability
You can't go far, if you don't go deep
Reminds me of a Golden Apple, June Plum seed
It's full of meat, you want to devour it
But it also has stems that can hurt your gums and teeth
So you make a choice,
Abandon it or bite carefully
Enjoying the sweet, earthen flavour
Savouring each bite
But constantly aware that if you
Make a wrong move
You'll get hurt
That sharp, stabbing pain will assail your gum
Your heart
And pierce you
Drawing blood,
Emotions, you hold so close
Take, from a part of you
You're not willing to share
But how else do we enjoy it
The fruit of love
If we don't take chances
Bite in
Become vulnerable
To something, someone we know can hurt us
But, can also bring us such joy
It's difficult isn't it
To choose.
If to taste it
Or abandon mission
And live with the what if
What if it was the best one I ever tasted
What if they're the one I can be myself with
What if I miss this opportunity
Who's to say I'll get it again
The questions are endless
But can only be answered by action
Or inaction
And in each case you choose
Weather to hold back or move
From safety to vulnerability
From fear to love.

Public Buses Strike
Early on Monday morning transport board workers across the island of Barbados went on strike, which resulted in little to no commuting for the day. Students and lecturers who regularly use public transit to get to campus were disadvantaged, and so many classes were either canceled or put online.
