“We all have moments where we would like to speak on a certain topic but never had a designated medium to share our opinions publicly. This column will be your safe space to voice your opinions on matters affecting you here at Cave Hill.”

BACK TO BUSINESS FEATURED STORY

Welcome to the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus! After two whole years of having a dormant campus environment, the Cave Hill Guild Council made it their duty to see a full revival of campus life following the resumption of face-to-face classes. In semester one, the guild council brought the vibes and showed the students what the Cave Hill Campus looked like before the pandemic with a wide range of student activities such as sports days, panel discussions, food days, and of course, fetes! Now that the campus has had a proper revival and we are in semester two, the Guild Council now gets back to business! Whilst last semester would have exposed the students to many of our active country associations and their culture, this semester is going to be more centered around the guild council and its various sub-committees. These include faculties, academic clubs, halls of residence, and our council’s standing committees.

These standing committees are very popular for events such as integration week, the most highly anticipated carnival week, and even more importantly, the Guild election season. If you haven’t already, follow the Guild Instagram page @cavehillguild to keep track of the weeks with the pinned calendar. Kicking off the semester, the Guild of Students participated in the UWI Cave Hill’s 60th anniversary parade, where students came out in their flags and colors to march together with staff and

administration. This gave the students the opportunity to showcase both regional and Blackbird Pride in addition to raising funds by selling food from their respective countries. Admin has since thanked the Guild Council on numerous accounts in making the event such a huge success by rallying the students and getting them prepared and organized. With so much more to talk about and just one more semester to go, the Guild Council encourages you the students to share your thoughts with us.
