HAPPY HOLIDAYS FEATURED STORY
Blackbirds, together we have come to the end of another extraordinary semester and reached the climax of another unique Christmas season. The last year has seen us adapt to the new normal. Despite our disappointment that we could not mingle together in person the Cave Hill way, you remained positive, you rose to every challenge, you did your very best, and for that, you should applaud yourself! This semester has not been easy, but we were built to overcome the odds each and every time. Certainly, the saying "All things are difficult before they are easy" has proven true for us all. But hard times don't last forever...to all our students, look how far we've come! Of course, the road has been rough. We've endured trials unique to our generation. Closed borders have separated students from their families. A deadly pandemic has stolen loved ones from our arms. Social distancing has forced us apart when we most need each other. We know that even now, many of our students are still struggling over the holidays. Whenever you feel down, remember that this year has not
only shown us tragedy. It has been a testament to the strength of our resilience. Just as Barbados cast off the shackles of colonialism amid the horrors of this pandemic, we will emerge standing stronger even during our darkest hours. No matter what kind of year you had, no matter what anxieties continue to plague you, one truth remains. You have survived. You have made it to the end of the year, a true accomplishment in these times. And from here on out, you must continue to show that resilient spirit. Survive again and again, day
by day, until we all learn to flourish and thrive in our new environment. But now is your time to relax and recuperate, because believe me, you have earned it! Enjoy self-care, fun, happiness, peace, and togetherness with your loved ones. Savor each beautiful moment and give thanks for all the beauty that still shines around us. On that note, we would like to wish you, our spectacular students, Happy Holidays, and a prosperous New year! May you and your loved ones enjoy success and good health for the New Year!

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT Sports Science student at UWI Cave Hill, Shaquille Browne is also known as Ess B; a versatile artist that focuses on creating music which captures fans of all ages with a sweet melodious sound that will have them coming back for more. Ess B was born in Canada but grew up in St. Vincent in the Grenadines and fell in love with the Caribbean flair and vibe. Given his love for being an instrumentalist, he immersed himself in campus clubs such as the music society where his skills quickly evolved, pushing him to the front of the stage as a vocalist. Music is not his only passion as he is an excellent cricketer for the UWI Cave Hill Black Birds and serves as the current Cultural Entertainment and Activities Chairperson (CEAC) for the Vincentian Students Association at the university. Ess B enjoys music and has a great passion and love for the art form and wishes for the opportunity to be internationally exposed for his music to be heard and felt by many. Now that he is back to his roots in Toronto he wishes to be recognized and placed in the spotlight to test his skills even more as he brings new music to the industry for all to enjoy.

NO RIRI FOR THE STARSTRUCK 01 Following the announcement of Barbados’ monumental
midnight event to transition into a republic, many already had the idea that Robyn Rihanna Fenty would make an obvious appearance. Students of the UWI Cave Hill campus found this event as the perfect opportunity to meet in person the ‘bad gyal’ herself with even hopes of a performance. Unfortunately, the star only made an appearance to claim her latest achievement as national hero.

COVID19 TRAINING SESSIONS

UWI STAT SECRET SANTA
The Cave Hill national give back programme scheduled a Covid-19 training session for students held by the Ministry of Health where students could gain give back hours while learning about the safety and precautions to take. This training was scheduled for December 11th and was between a 2 hour period. During this meeting students were informed about what to do and what not to do during this pandemic.
With Covid in the air, Santa switched his home visits for express delivery this year. Say goodbye to Rudolph and the other reindeer, and hello to UWI STAT's Secret Santa Service! From December 10th-29th, the UWI STAT Corps are taking orders for sweet treat baskets. For only $10, students can order festive baskets for themselves or a special someone. Christmas came early this season for some Law students, while others found their stockings filled with coal. It was a tale of two leaked exams, with a fairytale ending for second year students and a nightmare for third years. Four hours before its scheduled start, a third-year exam was posted with an earlier deadline to boot. Students dropped their notes and scrambled to work on it... only for the exam to be scrapped midway through, with brand new questions to destroy their hard work. But while the third years sobbed, the second years rejoiced! Their exam was accidentally leaked the night before, but nothing changed. All they wanted for Christmas was extra time, and Santa delivered!
