ELECTIONS AHEAD FEATURED STORY
Arguably one of the most anticipated seasons here at the Cave Hill Campus, the Annual General Elections of the Guild of Students is set for March 14th 2023. Dubbed “Casting Cave Hill 23” this season will be the first election since 2020 to be conducted in a face-to-face/physical format. This means that the students can now look forward to interacting with candidates around the campus as they make it through the campaign period. Sample polling, as seen in the past, will also be done this season as well as categorized debate nights. Currently, there are 20 candidates vying for guild councilor positions this election season, however a few positions still remain uncontested due to persons not putting themselves up for service. The guild returning officer would have previously expressed his wishes of having all positions contested, so that the newly elected councilors would begin their tenure with a full council to operate with.
ELECTIONS AT CAVE HILL
Voting, which the returning officer reassured everyone would be done physically, will take place at set polling stations across the campus as was done in the past. The use of electronic machines for the submission and counting of ballots was also confirmed by the returning officer, and a public demonstration of such will be conducted at an earlier date in the season. During the countdown days before the end of the nomination period, the electoral committee would have also taken to social media
to release some councilor testimonial videos which was intended to encourage persons to put themselves up for service. Students are still advised to go ahead and watch these videos as it may provide some clarity on a few of the roles. Overall, the guild council encourages students to look out for appointments as well as the necessary by-elections which will inevitably postdate the election season. To the candidates, good luck, and to the rest of the student body, remember, “No Vote, No Voice.”
