New Editions with every issue!

As a regional student coming straight out of secondary school in Trinidad, I have had to do some adjusting to university life in Barbados. While there are many familiar aspects of life in Barbados it was a challenge being away from my family and friends for the first time. However, I applied to the MBBS degree as I have always wanted to study medicine and that drive has only strengthened since my arrival. I was able to make it through my first semester unscathed and moving forward I hope to get more involved within the university and make a positive impact during my time here at Cave Hill. I have joined two committees within the MSA and I plan on improving from here in all aspects, from my involvement with the MSA to my academics. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Cave Hill thus far and am grateful to have met such amazing individuals. I am hopeful that there will be many more good times to come in the future!

From Fear to Love

Relationships require vulnerability

You can't go far, if you don't go deep

Reminds me of a Golden Apple, June Plum seed

It's full of meat, you want to devour it

But it also has stems that can hurt your gums and teeth

So you make a choice,

Abandon it or bite carefully

Enjoying the sweet, earthen flavour

Savouring each bite

But constantly aware that if you

Make a wrong move

You'll get hurt

That sharp, stabbing pain will assail your gum

Your heart

And pierce you

Drawing blood,

Emotions, you hold so close

Take, from a part of you

You're not willing to share

But how else do we enjoy it

The fruit of love

If we don't take chances

Bite in

Become vulnerable

To something, someone we know can hurt us

But, can also bring us such joy

It's difficult isn't it

To choose.

If to taste it

Or abandon mission

And live with the what if

What if it was the best one I ever tasted

What if they're the one I can be myself with

What if I miss this opportunity

Who's to say I'll get it again

The questions are endless

But can only be answered by action

Or inaction

And in each case you choose

Weather to hold back or move

From safety to vulnerability

From fear to love.

Public Buses Strike

Early on Monday morning transport board workers across the island of Barbados went on strike, which resulted in little to no commuting for the day. Students and lecturers who regularly use public transit to get to campus were disadvantaged, and so many classes were either canceled or put online.
