They personify our firm belief in a well-rounded, happy and ambitious school culture. I know they

are leaving not just with great grades, but memories, friendships and a network who will support them in the years to come. As ever, it is sad to say farewell to such a wonderfully talented bunch of young people, but I am genuinely excited to see the impact they have on the world in the years ahead and am proud of the young adults they have grown into –they leave with a real energy and purpose and massive potential.”

RECORD BREAKING GCSE RESULTS AT CATERHAM

Caterhamians opened envelopes which revealed 92% of all GCSE grades at 9 to 7 and 50% at the top grade 9 – smashing all school records! 2025’s record GCSE results show strength and achievement across every subject. Caterham’s leadership in digital, innovation and STEM has shone through with almost 90% of grades in Physics, Chemistry, Biology at 9-8 and 80% at 9-8 in Computer Science. Similarly, humanities and languages scored record results. 100% of grades in Mandarin from non-native speakers were grades 9 & 8 and Italian saw 100% of results at 9 to 7. Ever-popular Classics subjects Latin and Greek clocked 95% and 100% of grades at 9 to 7 respectively. “I am thrilled that these fantastic results enable our pupils to look forward to their Sixth Form studies and post 18 plans with confidence and also delighted for my colleagues and the whole school community. These results reinforce the excellence and ambition that runs through the school and reflects our strong

trajectory over recent years. We know that excellent results come from a school culture which has a focus on breadth and enjoyment, where pupils feel they connect and belong, where there are no limits to the dreams and ambitions of our pupils and where pupils and teachers have a shared excitement and curiosity about learning and a passion for their subjects. We know that education and success is about so much more than just results – our commitment to wellbeing, digital skills, innovation and problem solving demonstrates that – but the joy and excitement at school today are an important reminder that strong outcomes are an integral part of an outstanding education. Knowing this fantastic year group, they will thrive in our Sixth Form and well beyond. My thanks to colleagues and parents and all in the Caterham School community whose support has enabled today’s success.”

Otford and embraced lots of co-curricular clubs to support his studies. He said “One of the highlights of my time at Caterham so far has been taking part in the MACE debate this year with the debating team, we worked as a group of three and it was really interesting to hear other people’s perspectives.”

Whilst Luke was quick to thank all his teachers, he gives a special mention: “Mrs Bullard helped me apply to the John Locke Institute. It was a competitive application process to get a place at their Summer School with interviews. Whilst I was there, I attended lots of lectures by university lecturers including those from Oxford and Cambridge that really challenged my opinions. I learn a lot more about politics and philosophy so it certainly influenced my A Level choices and has really given me a head start.”

What advice has been key to Luke’s success? Thoughtfully he shared: “When I was younger I would take feedback negatively, but I gradually developed to take all feedback on board, to learn from my mistakes and better myself.”

Josh has been involved in a wealth of activities outside of the classroom at Caterham: “The Combined Cadet Force is a big part of my time at school. Also Astronomy Club which is great with my love of physics. I do a ton of music and play Saxophone and Violin which I like. I’ve taken part in a lot of concerts, and the particular highlight so far was performing at the London concert at St John’s Waterloo.”

“Celebrating my results, I have to thank my parents who have always been there helping me. My teachers too.”

With smiles of relief and celebration Abi said: “It was a bit stressful leading up to results days with three of us waiting for news, but we cheer each other on. I got nine grade 9s and two grade 8s. I’m going to be doing philosophy and theology, psychology, Spanish and biology at A Level here in September.”

A keen musician Abi loves being part of the music community at Caterham: “I really enjoy playing my instruments. I play the ‘cello and the oboe and went on a Choir tour to France. We’ve got an orchestra trip coming up this year too. I find it so much fun, and playing together in the orchestras and groups means we’ve got a real community.”

Abi added: “I’ve also made the most of the academic enrichment clubs and the Scholars Society to deep dive into subjects. I’m looking forward to joining Astronomy Club in Sixth Form too.”

Abi, along with Josh, moved to Caterham from Reigate Parish School and was keen to pay tribute to everyone who has helped her along the way: “I’d like to thank my parents, of course, my teachers and friends who all helped me get to today.”

UK AND GLOBAL SUCCESS FOR CATERHAMIANS

Ivy League, US and oversees universities are increasingly in demand as the post Sixth Form education landscape changes and this year once again proved to be a highly successful application round for Caterham pupils.

In 2025 Caterham’s Upper Sixth pupils collectively received over 40 offers from American universities, together with multiple academic scholarships – no mean feat when many of the places they applied to have over 100,000 applicants a year and acceptance rates in the single digits.

This year offers came from universities and colleges spanning east to west including Columbia (Ivy league), UCLA, NYU, University of Southern California, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Emory, University of Michigan, Boston University and the University of San Diego. The subject range covered in the offers was also broad with pupils pursuing a range of majors from economics and engineering to sociology and film studies.

Caterham pupils apply for US universities alongside their UCAS applications so are able to choose from a full selection of offers on both sides of the Atlantic when selecting which university offer to accept. The amount of work and support required in preparing an application for a US university cannot be underestimated and begins early in the Sixth Form, and sometimes before. Ceri Jones, Headmaster said: “Congratulations to our pupils who worked tremendously hard to secure a superb set of offers and then places, and thanks to colleagues and parents who have supported them. The options for young people beyond school are rapidly broadening, in line with the rapidly changing

professional world beyond. It is vital that we prepare pupils to access whichever pathway their ambitions point to. That means not only securing the grades that open those doors, but also developing the wider skills and awareness that ensure they can secure offers and thrive both at school and well beyond.”

Sixth Form Pathways

In readiness for the changing post Sixth Form landscape, Caterham introduced the EDGE Pathways programme for our oldest pupils in 2021. The programme begins early in the Lower Sixth year and ensures pupils are prepared and focused on the many paths open to them in the UK and across the world. Regular weekly sessions include specific preparation for overseas university applications, professional degree apprenticeships, medicine and dentistry (with the Wright Medics

young medics into med school

Society) in addition to focused support for pupils preparing for architecture courses and music and performing arts conservatoires. The EDGE Pathways programme runs alongside the UCAS application support and preparation for UK universities.

Young Medics –The Wright Society

Caterham has a long-established tradition of preparing young people for medicine, dentistry and veterinary science courses. In 2025, 100% of young medic applicants secured their place for the third year running (10 pupils in 2025, 8 pupils in 2024).

Pupils aiming for these highly competitive places gain extra support and extension through the school’s prestigious Wright Society and the wider science focused Moncrieff-Jones Society.
