Do you have an anecdote to share with us as a professional player in Venezuela?

Ken Griffey Jr.

CG: It was very special to me the day I received the MVP in the Venezuelan league. I received it from the hands of Luis Aparicio, Baseball Hall of Fame Inductee, born in Maracaibo, which is also my town. I was there with a glory of baseball such as him, in front of 40 thousand people, in my country, on the day the classical game in honor of the Virgin of ChiquinquirĂĄ was taking place. On a day like that, years before, I would attend and watch the big players play. That was my inspiration. Who are your baseball heroes? CG: My favorite Venezuelan player is Bob Abreu, because he is left handed and also an outfielder. From the Americans, I admire Ken Griffey Junior. I have played against both of them and chatted with them.

Have they given you any advice? CG: They have given me the same advice I repeat, which I learned with time. You have to pursue your dreams and never give up. Since I was a child I dreamt of being where I am today. This all started as a dream. Now I play here and I am grateful to God for all he has given me. How would you like to express that gratitude? CG: I would like to start a foundation to help atrisk children, and those in need. My wife and I are working on that. How did your life change with marriage? CG: Now I have a lot of responsibilities. My time to have a family came. I have a son and a good woman in my home. I have a new purpose to strive and to bring happiness to these two people who dream through me. 14
