CAMBRIDGE FOOTBALL CLUB Cambridge FC was established in 1948, based in the heart of the town. In 1967, Cambridge moved from the city to our new home on Vogel Street known as John Kerkhof Park - named after one of our great former club presidents. In 1974 Cambridge competed for the first time in the Northern League and played in the competition in various tiers of the league till the present day with only a few years playing in WaiBOP Premiership. In 2013 Cambridge was appointed as the home ground for WaiBOP United in the National League. In 2015, CFC hosted its first international match between Fiji and Hungary, as the teams preparation for the Under 20 FIFA World Cup. Cambridge has had its share of professional and internationally capped players coming through the ranks of the club. Notably players like Chris Wood, Che Bunce, Katie Duncan and Andrea Rogers have all worn the red and white stripes. In recent years Cambridge has had 4 players represent New Zealand at age group world cups as well as a handful of players playing for the national futsal team as well.

JUNIOR CLUB CAPTAIN Its been a long time coming to see 3 of our Federation teams being scheduled to play at home all on the same day! Watching a lot of these boys over the years, starting out in first kicks and now seeing them play some really attractive football is amazing to see. What they have been able to develop on and off the pitch is what we are working towards as a club. It is testament to the support from a huge group of parents without them coming with us on this journey what we are seeing today would not have happened I look forward to seeing more of our Juniors moving through the grades and seeing them out there giving it all – they are our FUTURE REDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! has been a real privilege to watch the continued development across all our federation teams during the 2021 season.

Incorporating our U12, U13 and U15 male teams, there has been a real progression of technical performance across all age groups, and the building in depth in numbers that can only provide the club moving forward in a positive way. A huge thanks to the superb coaching and management staff that have created a fantastic team environment for all players to grow and develop throughout the season.

A special thanks also to all parents and caregivers that have supported the programme throughout the season and also to the fantastic sponsors that have been onboard for the season in providing all teams and players with the appropriate apparel to showcase a true professional look” Congratulations to all involved. Ricki Herbert Technical Director, Cambridge FC.

OUR UNDER 12's

The 2021 season has been an encouraging one for Cambridge’s U12 Federation side. A squad of eighteen players is training twice a week, with a match day squad of fourteen players has put in some credible and increasingly consistent performances on the field. Highlights of the season, so far, have been the team’s two matches against Hamilton Wanderers. An excellent team effort led to a 3-1 victory over Wanderers near the start of the season, while a special level of desire helped the team to a share of the points in the mud at Raymond Park a few weeks ago. The team – and coaches – have enjoyed testing themselves against some strong teams too, including the current top two sides in Northern United and Melville United. At the start of the season this was a fairly new squad, with players drawn from several Cambridge teams and also Matamata. It took a few training sessions and pre-season games for the group to get going, but they’ve gelled as the season has progressed and we’re looking forward to seeing how the players develop over the remainder of the season. The team has a big couple of months to look forward to, with regular league games continuing and the Weir Rose Bowl and McCartney Tournament on the horizon. As always, the team would like to thank our sponsors – Meghan Molony Photography and Cambridge Vets. Your support has allowed the team to look sharp as we represent Cambridge across the WaiBOP region. Mark Moloney & Dwayne Barlow

OUR UNDER 13's

Firstly I would like to welcome Papamoa to Cambridge FC for today’s games. It has been a very fun and enjoyable year for our Cambridge u13 team. We have a great culture within the team on and off the field and a fantastic group of parents who can’t go unrecognised. The boys have developing into very talented young players and should be very proud. This is there first year playing 11 aside and they have all adapted superbly playing some very attractive football. Also a big thank you to the club and the Ricki Herbert football academy for creating pathways for the up and coming junior and youth players. Bradley Rea

OUR UNDER 15'S The Cambridge U15 Federation team is the first of the Cambridge Federation teams to have survived the four year journey from the U12 federation space right through to the U15 space. At the time of writing we are uncertain of what is available for the players and parents next year in terms of this space – with the hope being that WaiBOP will develop a new combined U15 and U16 league (as these years seem to be the first major problem area in terms of current pathways for players at this age group). The U15 federation league this year had only 5 teams register which resulted in a short season of 15 rounds with 12 competition games and three byes – with each team playing each other three times. In terms of quality and competitiveness it has been the best season to date, with all five teams having quality players across the board and on their day any team has been capable of coming out on top. The teams have different styles of football but the technical ability of the players across the teams has been top level at this age group, with good decision making and fast ball movement being some stand outs. Parents and supporters (including the opposition supporters) who have been watching the league this year have been really complimentary about the style of football and the technical ability of the Cambridge players.A lot of this is due to the three years that this team has been fortunate to have Kale Herbert coaching them, with this year being noticeable in terms of the players being able to handle more structured and challenging training sessions and especially take on board more direction around styles of play on a Sunday.

OUR UNDER 15'S CONTINUED... We have had a number of current players who have played with this team or the Cambridge Football Club for the majority of their playing careers (George Anthony, Jamie Kenny, Luke Sickelmore, Matthew Jordan, Max Kelk, Noah Maloney, Theo Anthony, Theo Susilla). Over the last two years we have had players joining us from all around NZ & Australia too. Reasons include moving to a new school, moving countries or towns, their previous football team disbanding or in some cases players just keen to have Kale Herbert coach them for a season. Current U15 players in this category include Cameron Smith, Dylan Gardiner, Kyan Ballantyne, Louie Short, Lucah De Roo, Lukas Dominikovich, Luke Mitchell, Matthew Simpson, Ollie Robertson, Rahim Nabizada, William Pratt and Wills Leyland. It has been a pleasure being involved with these players and their families over this and previous years. Each year has been a little like entering into the unknown in terms of never really being certain of what the current season looks like in terms of the federation league structure, number of teams and in most cases whether we were going to have enough players to field a team. Ideally the assessment sessions we hold at the start of each season would enable a selection of players, but most seasons we have usually had just enough to put a team together. In an ideal world in the federation space you would be making the decision at the end of the current season and selecting 75% of your team, to ensure continuity and certainty. We have certainly experienced lots of changes in the structures and rules over these four years, some positive and some not so positive. Overall though the experience has been really positive and Cambridge FC has been well represented by these players and parents on and off the field.

UNDER 15's THANK YOUS - GARY So following are some quick thankyous and thoughts from me on the Youth Federation Leagues and current player pathways: Catering and Hosting - This is one of the big changes when moving from Saturday “community” football to the junior and youth federation league, but is generally a positive in terms of hosting the opposition at our clubrooms by providing a meal and speeches with parents and players spending time together after the match - A massive massive massive thank you to Jina Sickelmore who has organised the kitchen and done most of the cooking over the four years for our team. We are well recognised for our hosting in this league now from visiting teams and parents because of the lovely meals Jina prepares. Also a big thank you to Adele Leyland who has been assistant chef in the kitchen this year and all the parents that jump into wash dishes, vacuum, put goal nets and flags up and down etc for every home game. ·Refereeing and Touch Judges We have been fortunate to have Nick Sickelmore refereeing our home games (and many of our away games). It is very rare to get an officially appointed referee at this level so to have a parent prepared to do this for us on a regular basis and in a very calm and professional manner has been hugely appreciated by all. Also at this grade touch judges become very useful as the games become much faster and a with a few more controversies! We have had Andrew Jordan the last two years be a regular touch judge for us and again much appreciated. ·

UNDER 15's THANK YOUS - GARY ·Cambridge Football Club The federation development pathway has been a difficult space for the club in general to understand, in terms of meeting the entry requirements, coaching requirements, sharing facilities, fields, clubrooms etc. But I think as a club we are learning fast how to better support each other in our shared goals of player development, shared style of playing football and a pathway for our talented youth players into our senior teams (or higher honours at other clubs). So a big thank you to both the club committee over the previous four years for their support and understanding and also a big thank you to the junior club captains over this period – Catherine Clarke, Tim Bailey and Matthew Malligan. Brian Kenny Brian and Jamie moved from Te Awamutu and started with our club in the U12 Federation space and we initially cocoached this team. Brian has stayed involved supporting and assisting coaching with this team and has also completed two higher level coaching courses over this time In terms of managing and coaching teams it is definitely a big positive to have someone else to work with you who is on the same page in terms of development, playing style and general support – so a big thank you Brian.

8th AUGUST 2021 Ricki Herbert Football Academy (RHFA) After the first year of federation football Cambridge FC enlisted RHFA to deliver the coaching sessions and where possible coaching for the Sunday game (which is largely on a volunteer basis) This was a big change for our club with the move from skilled volunteer parents coaching and taking the teams on a Sunday to RHFA providing the qualified coach for the sessions during the week and where possible a coach for the Sunday game Currently different federation teams at the club have slightly different set ups in how this is managed and structured over the coaching and game sessions Overall my feeling is that this approach has delivered a more consistent development approach to the sessions and coaching and also a more consistent approach to a playing framework at our youth level This has also allowed the RHFA to be more involved in delivering development sessions at the junior end of the club as well The key RHFA coaches over this period have been Bradley Rea and Kale Herbert Cambridge is fortunate to have Ricki Herbert living in our community and as a community we need to keep working with Ricki to support our club and players development Kale Herbert We have been extremely lucky to have someone of Kale’s coaching ability take this team for the last three years. He has been super supportive, really encouraging and a great role model to have around these young players which has resulted in the playing style and technical ability we are seeing be produced on a Sunday, plus some great fun coaching sessions during the week. Kale has already coached at the highest level in NZ Football leagues (Hamilton Wanderers which was in the now disbanded National League) and currently coaches the Hamilton Wanderers senior team in the NRFL premier division. Kale has been great to work with and I am positive that as a coach he has a very big future ahead of him and that these boys will one day appreciate how fortunate they were to have him as their coach over the last three years!

8th AUGUST 2021

Parents Parents are unsung heroes in that without their support for their children and for this federation development league then this development space would not happen It is a different space initially for parents in that we ask them to stand back at coaching sessions and game time and in general be supporters of football This support includes lots of time, lots of travel and hosting support on the Sundays Sponsors In 2021 we have had Chris and Iris Dominikovich from Designer Homeware and Dom Commercial https://www.domcommercial.co.nz support us with generous sponsorship to cover costs of our training and away kit. In 2020 we had Dr Ali Ukra from Waikato Orthodontic Centre sponsor us for a season Braces | Waikato Orthodontic Centre | Hamilton (thewoc.co.nz) Players Lastly and most importantly a big thank you to those players that have played for us over the last four seasons at Cambridge Football Club Your time and effort has been appreciated and hopefully you continue with your football, keep enjoying the sport and keep challenging yourselves to be the best that you can be. Gary Kelk - Youth Federation Co-ordinator
