The History of Cambridge Football Club Cambridge FC was established in 1948, based in the heart of the town. In 1967, Cambridge moved from the city to our new home on Vogel Street known as John Kerkhof Park - named after one of our great former club presidents. In 1974 Cambridge competed for the first time in the Northern League and played in the competition in various tiers of the league till the present day with only a few years playing in WaiBOP Premiership. In 2013 Cambridge was appointed as the home ground for WaiBOP United in the National League. In 2015, CFC hosted its first international match between Fiji and Hungary, as the teams preparation for the Under 20 FIFA World Cup. Cambridge has had its share of professional and internationally capped players coming through the ranks of the club. Notably players like Chris Wood, Che Bunce, Katie Duncan and Andrea Rogers have all worn the red and white stripes. In recent years Cambridge has had 4 players represent New Zealand at age group world cups as well as a handful of players playing for the national futsal team as well.

Coaches Corner - We're Back! We would like to welcome Claudelands Rovers to John Kerkhof Park for round 11 of this years NRFL Division 2 campaign. We would like to say a big thank you to all of our volunteers and committee members for the ongoing work they put in behind the scenes to make sure everything is in place for game days like today. We would also like to say a big thank you to our sponsors for their ongoing support to the team and the club. Last week saw the Cambridge reds travel up to Auckland to play Hibiscus Coast. The game started off very well for both teams unfortunately for Cambridge a very unlucky own goal meant they went down 1-0 going into the break. After half time a very well taken goal from Adam Dickinson and a penalty not long after saw Hibiscus 3-0 up then a very well taken header made the game finish 4-0 Hibiscus. Although a tough result the boys gave there all and can take a lot of positives from the game. We are expecting a very tough game this weekend both Cambridge and Claudelands sitting on 12 points each with all to play for in a very close league. The boys look forward to being back at home in front of the Cambridge supporters. Once again I would like to thank our sponsors, volunteers and committee members for all of their hard work and lastly a big thank you to all the supporters who have turned up week in & week out to support the boys. We would also like to wish all the other Cambridge teams all the best for their upcoming matches this weekend.

Paddy's Corner! Kia Ora and welcome to John Kerkhof for Derby day. So good to be back on home turf, it's been tough on the road the last couple of games. We have battled against top half teams and unfortunately have come away with no reward. However, one thing this team has is fight, and they will give it their all and play until the last minute. Now, into the second game of round two, we aim to push into the top half of the table. Today we welcome our nearest rivals in Claudelands. This derby has some history and the win loss ratio between us is very even. Claudelands are tough team to play and like us are looking to get their campaign back up and running. The lads are determined to reverse the first-round fixture and keep the points in Cambridge. Once again we look forward to your support as our 12th man. As always #UPTHEREDS!!!!! Paddy Woodlock

Captain of the NRFL Mens Division 2 Reds

Our Under 23's! Firstly, on behalf of Cambridge Football club would like to take this opportunity to welcome our opponents Claudelands Rovers to John Kerkhof Park. Would also like to take this time to send a massive shout out to Cambridge red and white army… our fans. You have been our 12th man this year and have followed the boys from day one up to Auckland and back and even up the trip Whangarei. So, on behalf of the first & reserve team we truly thank you. I would also like to take this moment to thank our sponsors and our volunteers and the committee for your work in behind the scenes for this season. Alongside this, I'd like to personally thank our squad managers, Ash & Nicola. You guys have been fantastic this year from supporting the team to dealing with all the admin side of both squads, so thank you for all your hard work and effort This season so far in my eyes has been a successful one for the u23’s development side. We have had some ups and downs regarding results but that is football for you. The good thing with the lads is that when a result hasn’t gone are we stick together as a unit and go again next week. Getting good numbers at training and even having a couple of under 16’s step to train with us on a Tuesday and a Thursday makes me believe that the club have a bright future ahead with the talent coming through. We recently had a youngster Rahim Nabizada step up from the under 16s and his debut capped off a man of the match performance and then recently was handed his first start and scored. We have also had a couple of young signings make their way to the club a recent one in Callum Roberson & Andrew Ganas who travelled down state highway 1 from Matamata. Andrew is also the brother of 1st team superstar Anton Ganas. Players like Nate Camplin and Noah Skipps started off with the development side and have forced their way into the starting 11 for the first team. Skipps who can play out wide or through the middle was knocking on the door for a call up with some strong performances he was recently given a chance in the Chatham cup and has been a starter ever since. Nate has been outstanding between the sticks this year and even though he is a man united fan, and we try not to hold that against has put in the effort and the hard yards to don the number 1 jersey and well and truly deserves it again try not to judge being a man united fan. I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of the season has instore for us and am sure the lads will be up for the challenges that will come our way. Thanks again for your continuous support this season and we hope to put a show on for you.

Joe Gifford

Coach of Under 23's Development Team

Our Women - Waikato Division 1 Welcome back everyone! We’re excited to be back at home playing after our development team this Sunday, go the ladies!! We are nearing the end of our second round and overall the team are having a great season. We are playing some classy football and are managing to build on our learnings every week. Our beloved goal keeper Aimee is getting put through her paces as we aim to make every shot count We are seeing a very close and competitive league play out for our Division and it’s hard to know who will make the top 4 split at the end of this round. We are certainly eyeing up the top 4 for our team so make sure you come along and make some noise for us, we love a bit of external motivation Nigel and Andy are working together well to ensure both of our squads are in the strongest position each week and we have contingencies if required. We are hoping to fielding three (or more) womens teams next year so if you or a lady in your life are looking to play some football, get fit, have fun and make new friends reach out to us. Georgia is always happy to have a chat Thanks for coming!

Our Women's Development Team Our Women’s Development team is currently sitting in 2nd equal spot with Morrinsville who we have yet to play due to postponement, we are now into our 2nd round hoping that we may be able to change some results from earlier in the season. We have an amazing crew who gel together well on and off the field, however we have suffered a lot from injuries, covid and scheduled holidays overseas to missed family. Our goals are sitting at a healthy 55, whilst scoring has been shared by many players a large chunk of these has been put in the goal by Marcela Balanta (known as Leydi to us) she is aiming for top goal scorer for the seniors this 2022 season and we feel she just might do it, she has scored a whopping 25 goals so far and at half way we can only guess how many more she might achieve. Coach Houndy has been wrapped with the teams attitude and growing team bond, the skills of the ladies could all fit in nicely with our Div A team and are happy to fill the gaps when needed and they have done the same when our numbers have dropped. Next game Sunday 17th 11am we go head to head with Thames who beat us last time with only one sub and a debilitating injury to our other much missed keeper, so we are hoping to turn this result around. With the Div One ladies following on at 1pm vs Matamata this will be a great day of Ladies football.

An Update From Our Junior Reds! Cambridge Football Club has had an amazing 2022 with the junior programme. Registration started with a cool day of football in March introducing new players to the club and welcoming back members from past years. Currently we have 599 junior players registered; 112 junior kickers, 39 teams playing on Saturday and 6 Federation teams. This year saw the reintroduction of an U13 Federation Girls team and enough talent to have 2 x 12th Grade Federation teams. Holding our Junior Kickers sessions on a Friday evening at the senior club has been a great introduction for the newest reds to the club. This innovation has allowed us to provide the required support to new kids and parents, helping demystify the sport. With this it’s been great to see current club members from all our senior teams coming down to assist. The next phase int this space is to find a Volunteer to run the evenings. Saturday football continues to be a success with 39 individual teams competing throughout the Waikato. Massive thank you to all the parents that have stepped up to help with coaching, managing and refereeing, without you this does not happen. We continue to evolve our thinking on how to set teams up and the support we give coaches to ensure the best experience for the kids so they hopefully come back next year. Our Federation teams were excited to receive their new kits this year. A massive thanks goes out to our sponsors Nicholson Surveying, Get Wet Waikato, Meghan Maloney Photography, BTG Electrical and Cambridge Vets for making this possible. We are working with Ricki Herbert Football Academy and have RHFA coaches working with all our Federation teams and the kids have shown a marked improvement over the season so far.
