COACHES CORNER – PREVIEW FROM THE COACH

Welcome back to EDSC for our eighth home game of the season following a big win on the road for the Youth League Women.
Last week, our group was able to fight through a sloppy first half and take the win over Sunbury, for the first time this season. Keira Lindemans and Tahlia Leeson both lead from the front, whilst Mia Tamburrini proved once again she is an offensive threat with her own 13 points. Importantly, new recruit Ayuen Akot played her first game as a Boomer!

With now 12 games played, the next new challenge is leveling up our game each week to ensure we continue to develop through the second half of the season!
Today, we welcome Wyndham, who we know will be a very well-drilled, tough opposition.
We have not yet played Wyndham, so will be great to challenge a new opposition. Will be looking forward to see the likes of Hannah Ronan-Black, Felicity Warrell and Jasmine McKenzie leading with maturity from the front this week!
As always, thanks for your support, we hope you enjoy the day. Bring the energy!

COACHES CORNER – PREVIEW FROM THE COACH

Round 10 sees us hosting Wyndham in what promises to be a very difficult game that will require nothing but our best efforts and full focus if we want to add another win to our tally.
Our Boomers are coming off two wins at home against Camberwell and Hume, two of the division’s top teams. Last week it was our defence that caused Hume a lot of problems and got their main players out of their comfort zone, causing the Broncos to take a lot of bad shots and only shoot just over 30% from the field, well below their season average
Offensively, we managed to get a lot of points in the paint and we adjusted very well against Hume’s defence; Sam Alexander had 22 points off the bench shooting 56% from the field, Bailey Milligan added 13 and Josh Uhr-Henry added 14 points and 13 rebounds.
It is worth noting that of the 10 guys that played, 9 scored at least 2 points, which yet again proves the depth our team has in its roster across all positions; we were aggressive, passed up good shots for better ones and we held our composure when Hume tried to get back in the game.
Our team keeps developing nicely, confidence is very high after beating Camberwell and Hume and there’s a genuinely healthy vibe coming out of the team as we’re getting ready for the pointy end of the season with a Finals spot as our target; it’s a great time to be around our Boomers but we take nothing for granted and we know that we have to fight in every single game.

This week, we know we’re in for quite a fight on both ends of the court and it is paramount that we remain focused for 40 minutes.
Wyndham is one of the top offensive teams in the league; Oskar Jones is an elite guard who averages 24 points per game in 24 minutes per game, but he’s not the only player to be mindful of, as Josh Norling has 24.2ppg, Darrien Herbert is up there with 12.6ppg, Emmanwiel Dieng has 11.3ppg and there’s several other players in there that can score for the Devils.
This team can really score so defensively, we need to make sure we don’t give them good looks; we came close to beating Wyndham away in round 1 losing 98-90 on the tail end of a double-header so we know how good our opponents can be and we need to do everything we can to disrupt their offensive flow if we want a good shot at winning tonight.
We can’t thank you enough for your support from the stands and we’re genuinely thrilled to be playing in front of you, so please, come on down to EDSC and be a part of it!

COACHES CORNER – PREVIEW FROM THE COACH

This week the Championship Women face off against cross-town rivals the Wyndham Devils in a Grand Final rematch. The Boomers are coming off a fantastic start to the season, sitting 9-1 after the first 10 games.
Last weekend saw the Boomers survived a hard fought win against a loaded Sunbury Jets team, securing the match by 10 points. The Boomers had a slow start to the game, shooting 2/13 from three-point range in the first half, however exploded for a 29 point third quarter, led by Annabel Deerbon who finished the game with 19 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 block shots.
The Wyndham Devils have shown they are the team to beat this season, posting an unblemished 10-0 record to start the season. The team is led by star import guard Amanda Paschal who is averaging 23 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists so far in the season and Bendigo Spirit WNBL Development Player Dyani Ananiev who is contributing 20 points as well.
The Boomers will have to key in on the star power of Wyndham's two key players and play together to secure the victory. The team has made winning by committee a point of difference this season and we hope that they can secure a victory tonight.
