Tim Ilerry, paltner at San Dimas Lumber' Co., San Dimas, Calif., is planning a June 1st grand opening ceremony at the newiyremodeled retail yard. Innovations include a new 2,500 sq. ft. showroom.

Harold Paxton, former manager of Sutter-Union Lumber Company, slated to be closed in July, is embarking upon a new career by running for supervisor of the second district.

Ken Strawser, formerly with Cal-Pacific Sales Co., has re-joined the sales staff at Associated Redwood Mills, Los Angeles. Ken is still sporting a cast on his arm, the result of a tumble otr a Iadder in January.

Michael Zapponi, owner of Lakeport Lumbet' & Supply, has been elected mayor of the thriving southern Clear Lake town of Lakeport. Mike has been in business at Lakeport for about ten years and prior to coming to Clear Lake he was u'ith Hollow Tree Redwood at Ukiah.

Jim Weber, manag:er of Hubbard & Johnson's Mountain View yard, is now the exalted ruler of Elks Lod,ge 2728, Mountain View.

It'll be a June wedding for Candy Hughes, 23-year-old daughter of Glendale lumberman Tom Hughes of Hughes Lumber Sales. Candy will be returning home this month as will her husband-to-be, Dr. William Casarella, whom she met during a 19-month tour in Korea with the American Red Cross.

While hel bosses Dick and Bill Norris and Dave Davis tried to cope with the March redwood market, Van De Nor's Ann Heistuman took a grand tour of the Grand Canyon, New Orleans, a Caribbean cruise, and a leturn trip to Eureka via New York and Chicago. Maybe next year fellows ?

Motroni - Heard's Frank Heard, LMA's national dealer dilector, and LMA executive veep Bob McBrien is attending the spring meeting of NLBMDA May 10-11, at Washington, D. C.

Donald Allison is back in the 'ole harness at Commercial Lumber: Co. after a bout rvith pneumonia. Welcome back, Don.

Placerville Lumber's Bob West and Fred Turkheimer of Twin-City Lumber Co. tleated their wives to a late April week at Cabo San Lucas (Baja California), the guests of Bud Critchfield while there.

Jim Lewis, more recently in the lumber business in the Midwest and at one time associated with Redwood Sales Company in San Francisco, has joined the San Jose office of Simpson Timber Company.

Stan Heriot has left Walm Springs Lumber Co., Flemont, to return to K/D Cedar Supply in Hayward as salesmanager. Stan, who has been salesmanager of K/D Cedar prior to joining Warm Springs, returned to his old desk April 1.

John Godley, who headquarters at San Mateo, spent late March in Seattle and Portland on Wood Conversion Co. business.

Ed Terrell, Ray Lizotte, Bill Sharp and Don Derbes, all of Inland Lumber Co., Rialto, Calif., boarded Union Lumber's company plane for a trip to Fort Bragg last month where they toured the company's mill. Union's Bob Shannon served as toul guide.

Duane Bennett, Mead Clark Lumber Co., is back in action after a bout with the ol' gall bladder during early April.

G. Arnold Srnith, managel of U. S. Plywood's import-export department, will returrr to New York May 15 after a six-week business trip through the Orient and western Europe. Smith is also the current president of the Imported Hardwood Plywood Association.

Fred Dias, manag'er of Union Lumber Company's brand-new Fort Bragg Lumber Company, is back on the job after an operation in San Francisco Hospital the week of April J.1.

Long-time lumberman Bonnie Magruder, formerly yard superintendent at Bay Central Lumber, Torrance, Calif., will be leaving May 15th for an 1S-month tour in Vietnam as a civilian employee for a lumber operation in Saigon.

Yosemite Lumber's Ham Knott gained a daughter-in-law, when his number two son, Gordon, claimed a bride in Fresno, April 2.

Wayne Wilson, 1?-year-old son of Wayne C. Wilson of D. C. Essley & Son, Los Angeles, held down the forward position on the Sierra High School basketball team that recently captured the CIF championship in play-offs at Long Beach. Young Wayne is grandson of bossman Dee Essley.

Tumac Lumber's Paul and Sally McCracken, and Merv and Doris Kjer of K/D Cedar Supply, teamed up to have a real ball in Hawaii during early April.

The March issue of Calilornia Lumber Mercha,nt contained a mixup in photocaptions on page 27 in an ad for Union Lumber Company, an error caused by independent platemakers nol associated with CLM.

Apparently many of our eagle-eyed read. ers brought the error directly to Union's attention. According to Sherm Bishop, vice president sales, ooWe've been getting letters and phone calls by the dozens. It certainly proves that dealers are doing a thorough job reading Cdifornia. Lumber Mercha.nt."

Tom Hogan, former manager of Diamond National's Modesto yard, joined Bay City LumbelCo., Inc., in Oakland on April 18.

Shari Bates, skating daughter of the Calif. Redwood Association's Barney Bates and Junior Ladies National Champion, ice skates daily preparing to defend her ranking of Outstanding Skater. She won it last year when she beat out 180 men and women. Contest is held in British Columbia in August'

Art Neth toured the Pacific Northwest mill country last month on business for A. W. Neth Lumber Sales, Sherman Oaks, Calif.

West L.A. wholesaler Morris Tropp leaves the 24th of this month for a six-week tourfirst stop: Vienna, Austria. Then on to Ath. ens, Istanbul (not Constantinople) and a cruise through the Greek Islands.

Jim Franchi, Twin Parks Lumber Co., Arcata, and his missus recently returned from a golfing, sightseeing and fun trip to Hawaii along with two other popular Eureka couples, Mr, and Mrs. Chris Nichols of Redwood Construction, and Mr. and Mrs. Ned Davis of Trinity Supply ,Co.

Antelope Valley dealer Tony Varitz, owner of Kelm's Lumber Yard in Rosamond, Calif., is making plans to attend the annual Kiwanis national convention in Portland, Ore.

Bill Williams, head of Interbay Lumber (Marin) and Vincent Whitney Co., motored down to Las Vegas with the missus and another couple during late March and returned to Sausalito with only minor wounds inflicted by the dealers and machines in that desert spa.
