Lominoted Timber le'qders Meet

The American Institute of Timber Construction held its l4,th annual meeting in Hawaii, March l4-18, and featured presentations on fire insuranct', complaints of architects and engineers, finger jointing and durability, adhesives, mechanization and production, utilization o{ computers in timber design, the AITC timber construction manual and the promotion and selling of laminated timbers.

Social and recreational activities included a golf tournament, cocktail partiesone o{ which was sponsored by several of AIT(l's adhesive manufacturins associate memhcrs, a welcome dinner, on ihc Ha*ai- ian Islands, a golf awards banquet and general enjoyment of tht' island of Maui.

The meeting, which brought together national leaders of the laminated timber manufacturing industry together, concluded with the election of officers for the year. Ed Fountain, president of Fountain Lam-Loc Company, Los Angeles, was elected president. R. W. Mayer, president of Timber Structures, Inc., Portland, was elected vice president.

Simpson Elects Officers

Election of four new officers of Simpson Timber Co. has heen announced by C. Henry Bacon, Jr., president.

Promotions are: C. E. Runacres, Jr., {rom corporate secretary to vice president. He joined the company in 1940 and also serves as president of Simpson Timber Company, Ltd., a Canadian subsidiary.

Melvin L. Munson, who joined in 1953, Irom director of industrial relations to vice president-personnel. David A. James, with the company since 1947, from director of public afiairs to vice president-pulilic affairs.

Robert L. Wiley, assistant to chairman W. G. Reed, advances to corporate secretary. Viley, who came to Simpson last year after six years as assistant to the president of Boise-Cascade Corp., will continue as assistant to Reed.
