The wood is recognized for its natural beauty, durability, dimensional stability, insulating qualities, and ease of finishing. Where panel products are desired, no other species can equal redwood plywood in terms of universal sales appeal and utilitarian advantages, according to CRA.

It is available with clear heartwood face veneers, or face veneers containing sapwood. The heartwood veneers contain natural extractives that are repellent to insects and decay organisms. Assuring the dimensional stability, redwood plywood stays in place and keeps its shape. Its abilities to resist the erosive effects of weathering, and to take and hold a wide variety of finishes, are excellent.

It may be used for either exterior or interior applications because it is manufactured with waterproof glue. In addition, all standard orders of sawtextured redwood plywood are finished at the mills with water repellent preservative.

Redwood plywood is manufactured with a saw-textured surface, which yields delicate shadow effects and is suitable for all exterior and interior uses. Saw-textured plywood is manufactured in two appearance grades:

Approved synthetic repairs rnay be used in lieu of wood repairs providing their durability is equal to or exceeds that of wood repairs. This top quality redwood plywood product is factorycoated with a special water repellent.

Sapwood-containing face veneers have the following characteristics: knots and knotholes not allowed. Synthetic-filled knotholes allowed. Pin knots allowed up to 3/8 inch. No open splits. Router or sled patches only allowed. Wood or synthetic shims allowed. This redwood product is factory-coated with a special water repellent.

Available thicknesses are 3/8" and 518". Width of grooved panels is 48-318", shiplapped on long edges to give a 48" face. Ungrooved panels are 48" wide and edges are not shiplapped. All are available in lengths of 8',9', and l0'

The top grade, with a clear, all heartwood face veneer, is identified by the proprietary grade names "Premium Ruf-Sawn " (Simpson Timber Co.) and "Clear Heart Saw-Textured" (The Pacific Lumber Co.).

The other grade, with a redwood face veneer which may contain sapwood, is identified by the proprietary grade names "Custom Ruf-Sawn" (Simpson Timber Co.) and "Select Saw-Textured" (The Pacific Lumber co.).

Plywood produced by CRA mernber mills meets or exceeds standards set by the American Plywood Association for 303 siding face grades.

Face veneers are clear heart redwood or may contain sapwood, depending on the grade. Backs are redwood which may contain sapwood in any amount.

CRA quality redwood plywood is manufactured with fully waterproof exterior glue. Redwood veneer for plywood is obtained by rotary cutting.

Redwood plywood has gained wide acceptance as a siding in residential and comnrercial construction - especially where a natural wood appearance is desired for nraxirnum beauty and minirrturl nraintenance.

Panels can be applied directly to studs, thus serving the dual purpose of sheathing and siding.

Because of plywood's ability to prevent racking whcrr prol"rerly nailed, diagonal bracing is not required when redwood plywood is applied to one 8' section or three 4'sections in each wall.

Another irnportant labor-saving, material-saving benefit is that building paper is not required with the installation of redwood olvwood.
