What a joy and privilege it is to witness the incredible journey of our students as they grow from curious little learners into confident, compassionate, and capable young people. At BBIS, we are honoured to provide an environment where children are nurtured, challenged, and celebrated for who they are. In this loving and caring community, they truly flourish— becoming the very best version of themselves. We are deeply grateful to the families who choose to continue this journey with us year after year, and it fills our hearts with pride to see our students grow up within the BBIS family. To those who are moving on to new adventures: we wish you every success in your future endeavours. But remember—once a BBIS student, always a part of our family. A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

As we reflect on the 2024-2025 school year, it’s impossible not to feel a tremendous sense of pride and celebration.

This year has been monumental for BBIS, not just for what we’ve accomplished but for who we’ve become together as a community.

The highlight, of course, is the incredible achievement of becoming the first and only IB Continuum School in Budapest—and indeed, in Hungary—with graduating students. This milestone is more than a title; it’s a testament to years of dedication, collaboration, and belief in the power of education to transform lives. Across the IB DP, MYP, and our newly accredited PYP, we have solidified our reputation as a school where learning is a journey for all, one that reflects the highest standards of international education.

Our values—Respect, Safety, Learning, Caring, and Resilience—have been at the heart of this journey. They underpin every success, every challenge overcome, and every connection we’ve built this year. Our commitment to excellence has been consistently recognised, with 70 commendations from all authorisation and accreditation processes over the years—six of those coming in just the last four years. Each of these commendations reflects the depth of our values and our shared vision: BBIS as a place where everyone belongs, where every individual feels valued, supported, and inspired to thrive.

This sense of belonging has only grown stronger as our school has flourished. With new families joining us, BBIS is expanding not just in numbers but in the depth of our connections. Our stunning new playground and continued refurbishments have made our campus more vibrant than ever, offering spaces where students can learn, grow, and play in safety

This year has been rich with moments that celebrate our shared experience. From the academic triumphs of field trips, exams, and concerts to the heartwarming joy of the Winter Fair and the International Food Festival, the BBIS spirit has been on full display. And who could forget the brilliance of the PFA Quiz Night? It wasn’t just a night of fun; it was a reminder of how engaged and supportive our parent community has been this year—the best it’s ever been, without question.

Through all of this, we’ve continued to show that BBIS is not just a school; it’s a family. Together, we’ve embraced the principles of respect and caring, created a safe environment for all, built resilience in the face of challenges, and celebrated the joy of learning. We’ve travelled, performed, played, studied, and grown together, and as this year draws to a close, it’s clear that the bonds we share are stronger than ever.

Sport has played a central role in building this sense of community and resilience. Whether it was cheering for our football teams on the pitch, watching volleyball matches that showcased teamwork and determination, or seeing the energy of our basketball players as they brought their best to every game, sport has reminded us of the power of collaboration, perseverance, and the joy of healthy competition. Our students’ achievements on and off the court have been a testament to their dedication and the support of their coaches and teammates.

To our students, parents, and teachers: thank you for making this year unforgettable. The pages of this yearbook capture just a snapshot of the memories we’ve created, but they reflect a community that has achieved so much and is ready for even more in the years to come.

Visual Arts

This year the Primary Arts programme at BBIS has provided students with a dynamic platform to explore their creativity, develop resilience, and hone critical problem-solving skills. Through engaging projects and innovative activities, students have expanded their approaches to learning skills while embracing opportunities for self-expression. Highlights of the year include large collaborative endeavors such as the vibrant “Creativitree” and the interactive house point board, which showcased students’ ability to work together and bring creative visions to life. In class, students explored diverse mediums and techniques, applying their knowledge to produce imaginative and thoughtful artwork.

The Arts programme fosters skills that extend far beyond the classroom, preparing students for lifelong learning. By teaching resilience, adaptability, and innovative thinking, students are equipped to navigate challenges and think creatively in any field. At BBIS, the Arts inspire students not only to create but to approach life with curiosity and confidence.

Performing Arts

This year has been a whirlwind of music, performances, and creativity in the Primary Music Department! We kicked off with a fantastic Year 3 assembly performance, launching a series of concerts and showcases. Our instrumental class students and an adorable ballet group (those star outfits were unforgettable!) delivered a fabulous show. Year 6 students wowed us with a student-led Winter Assembly, singing in beautiful harmony—a true challenge they mastered brilliantly. We also celebrated the season with a heartwarming Lower Primary Winter Concert.

In the second term, we honored tradition with a Burns Night performance and eagerly prepared for the Year 4 Spring Assembly. As the year progressed, our focus turned to the highly anticipated Year 6 graduation. Throughout it all, our students embraced countless songs and instruments, making this year truly prolific. Their dedication and passion shone through in every performance, and I couldn’t be prouder of our talented BBIS students!

Art & Design

This year the Secondary Visual Arts & Design programme at BBIS has been fostering students’ creativity, critical thinking, and emotional expression. Allowing students to explore their identities, process complex emotions, and develop essential skills such as problem-solving and spatial reasoning. Through activities like drawing, painting, printing, sculpture, model making and digital design, students enhance motor coordination and cognitive abilities while also gaining cultural awareness and appreciation.

All students have appreciated other artists and artwork and use a variety of styles to influence their own development as artist’s. Following the IB learner profile all students are communicating their process ideas and skills, while the creative process nurtures resilience and innovation. By prioritizing art and design, students are empowered to become well-rounded, thoughtful individuals equipped for future challenges and we look forward to being more creative next year.

Music

The melodies of our musical journey this year have resonated with creativity and harmony as we delved deep into the world of music in the Secondary Music Department. Through group instrumental sessions and compositional exercises, we’ve discovered the power of expression through music.

In MYP4-5, our exploration of music composition has been a captivating adventure. From crafting intricate melodies to harmonizing beautifully, we’ve honed our skills and delved into diverse musical themes in preparation for our upcoming E portfolio projects.

The DP Music cohort embarked on an unforgettable arts trip to London, a city pulsating with inspiration from its vibrant musicals to its captivating art galleries. This experience has not only enriched our musical perspectives but has also influenced our compositions, infusing them with the essence of the sights and sounds that stirred our souls.

As we reflect on this musical odyssey, we celebrate the unity found in playing together, the depth discovered in composition, and the inspiration drawn from the world around us. The harmonious notes we’ve created this year will linger in our memories, reminding us of the transformative power of music and the boundless creativity that flows through our department.

COMPUTING

Primary Computing Computing at BBIS aims to support the Programme of Inquiry throughout the Primary School. During Computing lessons, students develop essential skills in digital citizenship, computer science, and information technology.

Over the six primary years, students learn about protecting personal information, practicing netiquette, recognizing and addressing cyberbullying, and conducting selective online searches, preparing them for a responsible and independent digital life. They explore computational thinking in various ways, from giving simple instructions to robots to using a range of coding platforms, including Scratch Jr and Code. org. These activities reinforce their understanding of algorithms and the importance of debugging. In Information Technology, students are introduced to a variety of applications on iPads and laptops, gaining hands-on experience in creating presentations, capturing and evaluating photos, editing audio and video, and exploring 3D design. Throughout Primary, students from Early Years to Year 6 work with iPads, Chromebooks, and various robots, with additional activities involving Micro:bits and imagiCharms. Notably, Year 6 has successfully implemented the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program.

Every February, we celebrate Safer Internet Week, where students participate in engaging activities centered around digital citizenship. Additionally, as a proud tradition, BBIS joins the global Week of Code in December, an event organized by Hour of Code. To further enhance learning, we offer extracurricular activities such as a 3D Design Club and an Early Years Robotics Club.

At BBIS, our ultimate goal in Computing is to ensure students have fun while developing new skills and strengthening existing ones.

PHE in Primary

This year, PE at BBIS has been an exciting and dynamic journey, with students developing their skills, knowledge and understanding through a variety of sports and games. Our PE lessons encouraged creativity, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of movement and game strategies.

A major highlight was our House Football Competition, where students showcased their enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Congratulations to Sapphire House, the overall winners!

Beyond school, our students had the opportunity to represent BBIS in competitive fixtures against international schools in Budapest, in both football and basketball. These experiences helped them develop resilience, teamwork, and a love for healthy competition.

Our swimming lessons focused on developing confidence, technique, and water safety, with students progressing through a new swimming certificate system designed for each year group. It has been a fantastic year of growth, learning, and sporting success, and we look forward to even more exciting moments next year!

PHE in Secondary

This year has seen a wide range of learning opportunities for our MYP students. Through the mediums of practical and theoretical learning, students have been exposed to an array of topics and units.

Practically, students have taken part in some more traditional sports, such as Basketball, Volleyball and Badminton. Beyond the traditional and conventional, students have also had an opportunity to learn other sports such as Ultimate Frisbee, Kickball, Handball, Netball, Spike ball and Gymnastics, to name a few. This spread of sports has given students the opportunity to explore catching and fielding, net and wall games, invasion games, as well as aesthetics.

Theoretically, students have had the opportunity to explore varied topics to enhance knowledge. This year, there has been an introduction into the syllabus for units such as the Haka, Fight Scene, Barriers to participation in sport and The Perfect Plate. These have coupled up with our existing, strong units such as Body Systems, Fruity Fitness Bars, Coaching, Play it your way (Leadership) and Feedback and Sports Psychology, as some examples. Not forgetting, the MYP5 e-portfolios as well.

Primary PHE HOD

There has been some great opportunities for students within the House system too, with students doing a range of sporting activities whilst aiming to accumulate important points for their Houses. The calendar has included House Football, Basketball, Volleyball & Table Tennis, with a new introduction of Ultimate Frisbee this year.

Our successes in school sport and leadership have many roots in the PHE curriculum and the department prides itself on the tools we give our students in order to be successful and strive in all aspects of school life. We look back on this academic year with much fondness, with much excitement and anticipation for the future, as our subject continues to be an integral part of BBIS life.

MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES

MYP

& DP Language Acquisition

German and Spanish

In MYP Language Acquisition, students expand their linguistic abilities by connecting prior knowledge with new learning through inquiry. Each lesson encourages them to challenge assumptions, explore diverse perspectives, and embark on a daily journey of language discovery.

MYP1 and MYP2 students build a strong foundation by learning essential vocabulary and structures to communicate about familiar topics such as school life, family, home, and leisure activities. As students progress to MYP3 and MYP4, they engage with more complex themes, including environmental issues, artistic expressions, traditions, and cultural perspectives from German- and Spanish-speaking societies. MYP5 students refine their skills in preparation for the eAssessment, tackling global topics such as Artificial intelligence, sustainability, globalization, and cultural practices unique to the target language communities.

Through the study of authentic materials, students develop an international mindset while enhancing their listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills. Exposure to diverse accents, dialects, and real-world contexts enriches their language learning experience, fostering deeper connections with the cultures they study.

Beyond the MYP framework, our Diploma Programme offers Language Acquisition courses in Ab Initio and Language B at Standard and Higher Levels, catering to students with varying degrees of prior language experience.

Ab Initio provides an immersive introduction for students with little to no prior exposure to the language, emphasizing foundational listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Through dynamic activities and authentic materials, learners acquire essential vocabulary and grammar, equipping them for practical communication.

Language B SL/HL challenges students to refine their linguistic proficiency and analytical skills through the study of literature, cultural themes, and global issues. Whether at Standard or Higher Level, students engage in meaningful discussions, persuasive writing, and in-depth analysis of authentic texts, fostering critical thinking and cultural awareness.

More than just a language

Primary

This year has been an exciting and rewarding journey in our Hungarian language classes! Week by week, our students have been diving into Hungarian books, developing a love for reading and storytelling. Our youngest learners have taken their first steps in reading and writing, mastering cursive writing with dedication and enthusiasm. A major milestone was integrating Hungarian into the PYP curriculum, bringing new opportunities to enrich our lessons and make learning even more engaging. Meanwhile, our oldest students began exploring history, delving into fascinating stories of the past with great curiosity. It has been a wonderful year of growth, discovery, and joy in learning Hungarian!

This school year has flown by! We are so proud of our Hungarian students, who once again took on the extra challenge of improving their knowledge of their native language, literature, and fascinating history. Through their dedication, they not only strengthened their connection to their Hungarian heritage but also explored the links between their cultural roots and the diverse international environment around them.

Outside the classroom, we enjoyed literary and historical walks, attended theatre performances, and, as always, worked together across year groups to prepare for events where we could share our traditions and celebrations. From the fun of Farsang to the commemoration of 15th March, these moments gave the school community a chance to experience a little piece of Hungarian culture.

It has been a joy to see our students’ enthusiasm and hard work, and we can’t wait to continue this journey with them next year!

LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

Secondary Language & Literature

This year has been a busy and rewarding one for the English Department, with new developments and a calendar full of learning experiences for both students and teachers. A major highlight was the introduction of English Composition, a course designed to support students’ language development as they move through the MYP into the DP. Based on the WIDA framework, it fosters an inquiry-driven approach and values students’ own languages and cultures, helping bridge the academic and language demands between programmes in a meaningful way.

In literature, DP1 students explored themes of identity through works like The Thing Around Your Neck, Robert Capa’s photography, and Persepolis, while DP2 students tackled darker narratives such as The Road, Death and the Maiden, and Chronicle of a Death Foretold, examining human experience through diverse lenses. Beyond the classroom, students engaged in activities from MYP and DP exams to interdisciplinary projects with the Science Department, building academic and creative skills. We celebrated World Book Day with poetry activities, and our Creative Writing and Essay Skills clubs offered students extra space to develop their craft.

Parent engagement remained strong, with productive conversations during parent-teacher meetings supporting student growth. Our team also successfully conducted speaking exams across year levels, giving students meaningful opportunities to build speaking and analytical skills. Looking back, it has been especially rewarding to see students grow in their ability to reflect, question thoughtfully, and approach learning with curiosity and care. We look forward to seeing their continued development as readers, writers, and thinkers.

Primary Literacy

This year has been a fantastic year for Primary Literacy. Many initiatives have been developed and the continued growth is evident in the students’ work. Through Level Up sessions we have seen students gain a deeper awareness of how they have applied conceptual techniques into their literacy work, identifying ways to self-edit and up skill their writing. We have adopted a whole class reading approach where students now focus on the skills needed to dive into a text. Through this approach we have begun to see more ambitious vocabulary being used and applied across other elements of our curriculum. Students are building on and securing connections between their literacy and UOI work which has enhanced their understanding significantly.

INDIVIDUALS AND SOCIETIES

A year of exploration and growth

This year in Individuals & Societies, our students have questioned, debated, and explored the world around them. From MYP 1, investigating Ancient Civilizations and Global Issues to MYP 5, analyzing Supranational States and the importance of Resource Management, each unit challenged students to think critically and make meaningful connections to the world today.

MYP 3 engaged in historical inquiry, debating the causes of WWI and WWII, while MYP 4 tackled the every changing dynamics of Human Populations, exploring how there is no such thing as a perfect population structure. MYP 2 debated the impact of Globalization and Innovation, and MYP 5 prepared for the next stage with mock assessments and realworld problem-solving.

To our MYP 5 students - good luck in DP! And to everyone else - keep questioning, keep exploring, and see you next year for more discovery!

SCIENCES

The Science department at BBIS added some new blood, perspectives and enthusiasm for the 24/25 school year. With an emphasis on practical experiences, departmental focus has been on building curiosity through experimentation and inquiry. In Secondary, this starts in MYP 1 and carries through to the DP. We continue to improve and supplement our departmental resources to support these goals. A memorable collaboration this year was when Year 3 students, during a body systems unit, came up to the Biology and Chemistry labs to dissect a sheep heart. Teachers of DP and MYP Biology, along with DP2 Bio students, worked together to demonstrate and guide the Year 3 students in a very interactive session.

Another cool event was the DP2 Group 4 project which had students representing their individual DP Science courses while collaborating with other students to solve a common problem. To mention a few others, MYP 3 science students planted a class garden to investigate the effect of a variable on plant growth while DP chemistry students learned how to oxidize alcohols to carboxylic acids. Skills and knowledge gained from experiences like these will hopefully plant the seed to stay curious and interested in the world around us.

MATHS

This year in mathematics has been an inspiring journey of discovery, growth, and achievement. Our students have consistently demonstrated a deep curiosity and genuine enthusiasm for learning, embracing every challenge with determination and creativity. From exploring complex problem-solving strategies to making real-world connections, they have shown how mathematics extends far beyond the classroom walls, shaping the way we understand the world and solve everyday problems.

Collaboration has played a central role in our learning environment, as students worked together to tackle mathematical tasks, build each other’s confidence, and celebrate collective success. Through group projects and shared explorations, they developed not only their academic skills, but also a profound respect for diverse perspectives and approaches.

The integration of technology has enriched our learning experiences, allowing students to engage with interactive tools, dynamic simulations, and global mathematical resources. A particular highlight of the year was our participation in an international online mathematics competition, where students tested their skills on a global stage, showcasing their resilience, strategic thinking, and dedication. This event also sparked thoughtful conversations about mathematics in different cultures and the importance of global citizenship.

As our students applied mathematical reasoning to topics ranging from environmental sustainability to financial literacy, they continually demonstrated how math is not just a subject to study, but a vital, living language for interpreting and improving the world around us. Their progress this year is a testament to their hard work, respect for one another, and unshakable belief in the power of learning.

We are tremendously proud of our students here at BBIS. We are feeling certain that all of our learners will succeed in their futures. Well done!

Primary EAL

The crucial ingredient in a successful Primary EAL programme is providing students with a safe space to express themselves and the chance to develop their language skills at their own pace in a lowstakes environment. At BBIS, we achieve this by leveraging multilingualism and supporting them on their journey, both inside and outside the mainstream classroom. We are proud of the fact that our students look forward to EAL lessons and grateful for the opportunity to contribute directly to their inquiries, projects and exhibitions in UOI. Learning a language is a lifelong endeavour for all of us and we strive to make the first steps a positive and rewarding experience too.

In the second year of the EAL program at Secondary, we have had a chance to celebrate numerous successes while at the same time reflecting on the many learnings gained from the previous year.

The EAL students have continued to develop into autonomous language learners - each aware of their own strengths and specific areas of development. Though young, they have made connections between their English language development and achieving higher levels of academic success. They have made great strides with skills such as analyzing text (both literary and non-literary), presenting, writing blog posts, emails, as well as opinion paragraphs and essays.

Parallel to this, the learners have been honing their use of vocabulary, grammar and experimenting with how these impact meaning. They are learning key academic skills such as inferring the meaning of unknown words from context and co-text, identifying and responding to attitudes, perspectives and stances.

It has been wonderful engaging with parents at meetings and PTCs and I am hopeful that this collaboration will continue to be fruitful for the students’ development.

Lastly, it has been truly rewarding for both myself and Ms. Tamas to see so many learners gradually exit the program and thrive in mainstream language and literature lessons. I take great pride in seeing them through this marvelous journey and I am confident that the bridge provided by the EAL program will continue to empower future learners to “hit the ground running” once they move on.

LIBRARY

More than just a space with books

The metaphor of the infinite library by the writer Jorge Luis Borges might be the best to describe our BBIS Secondary School Library. Having a rich, updated collection of all important knowledge areas, fiction categories suitable for different ages, a versatile online catalogue and doubled by access to digital repositories such as GALE, our library aims to be a vast resource for inquiry and discovery for diverse needs.

Whilst the collection has its own importance, the learner is the central focus of the BBIS Secondary School Library. We promote the pleasure of reading and thoughtful research through non-formal teaching. The student-focused methods facilitate the decision of each student about its learning pathway.

In this logic, the clubs mark a central point in the library’s identity. Four different clubs, designated for different year groups, encourage the students to go beyond the classroom activities:

• The Books & Beyond club uses an interdisciplinary and democratic approach to engage MYP1-MYP3 students to be autonomous in their learning quest.

• Sharpen Your Mind, designated for the MYP5DP2 students, focuses on talented and gifted students that aim to have a well-rounded profile for the competitive universities.

• The Book Club, in collaboration with Ms. Porritt and Ms. Long, encourages the critical examination of fictional books, including graphic novels.

• Soyuz- History of Eastern and Central Europe provides a contextual understanding of the history of the region in the long 20th century.

Additionally to the club activity, the library fosters more individually-tailored meetings:

• French language learning;

• Homework and project development;

• Essential ATL skills;

• Reference skills.

• Essay writing skills.

• a particular focus falls on teaching the DP1 and DP2 students about academic honesty, research skills and MLA Citation.

The infinite library is not constrained by a specific space. Instead, it aims to expand awareness about news polarization and fake news through its presence outside the library room. The weekly bulletin has a section called Library News, in which the Librarian and students select essential books, informative podcasts, and up-to-date publications. As well, the BBIS Magazine, in collaboration with Adela Gilmanova and Erica Elena Dicu, published on a bymonthly basis, documents the main achievements of BBIS community.

Lastly, the library aims to foster external partnerships. In September 2025, the Librarian lead a group of DP1 students for an interactive lecture at the Andrássy Universität Budapest, lead by Prof. Stefan Okruch, called International Trade Game . In February 2025, the DP1 students visited the Blinken OSA Archivum’s exhibition Fake for Real: A History of Forgery and Falsification within the Theory of Knowledge course, - lead by the Librarian, Ms.Porritt and Ms. Cathrell.

By following the “6+1” framework, the library curates its rich digital and material resources, supports both students and staff, enhances learning through events, connects students to global knowledge, co-creates educational experiences, and challenges students to think critically. By using this vision, the library aims to foster academic excellence by allowing readers to discover their own intellectual pathway, like in the infinite library described by Borges.

As we look back on the 2024–2025 academic year in the Primary School, it is clear that this has been a year shaped by growth, curiosity, meaningful learning and discovery—of the world, of one another, and of ourselves.

WELCOME TO PRIMARY

A key focus for us this year was developing empathy. Through the Lyfta programme, students virtually visited over 14 countries, engaging with real-life stories from a variety of cultures and contexts. These experiences encouraged students to reflect on global perspectives and deepened their understanding of compassion, diversity, and shared humanity.

A major highlight of the year was achieving full authorisation for the IB Primary Years Programme

(PYP), with 16 commendations from the IB. This milestone marks BBIS as the first IB Continuum School in Budapest and reflects the strength of our programme, the commitment of our educators, and the spirit of our learners.

In mathematics, students engaged in rich mathematical tasks, explored multiple strategies, and communicated their thinking clearly and confidently. Maths became more than numbers; it became a language of patterns, logic, reasoning, and insight.

Students also demonstrated their learning in a variety of ways. From dramatic performances and movement pieces to models, presentations, and digital storytelling, the range of expression has been both impressive and authentic. These opportunities allowed students to show not only what they know, but how they think—and to share their learning with others in meaningful, personal ways.

As we bring this transformative year to a close, we are reminded of Maya Angelou’s words: “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Throughout the year, our students and staff have created a community where everyone felt seen, heard, and valued.

One of our favourite times this year was when your families joined us for junk modelling. You all amazed us with your creativity, turning bits and pieces into the most incredible creations. What fantastic teamwork and imagination!

What a year it has been! Your very first year of primary school, and you absolutely smashed it! We have loved every single day with you, watching you grow into brave Risk-Taker Rats and kind Caring Cats. However, between Ms Obie and me, we are pretty sure you also invented a brand-new learner profile: The Cheeky Monkey.

We have had so many unforgettable moments. Remember our trip to the police station, where we used signs and symbols to find our way and even dressed up as police officers? And our Tropicarium adventure with sharks, crocodiles, snakes and one very mixed-up chameleon. Your paper plate performance at the winter concert was brilliant and unique. Let’s not forget about building our real time machine. We visited the Stone Age, met famous explorers like Amelia Earhart, and even became explorers ourselves.

We are so proud of each and every one of you. You are funny, kind and curious, and we just know you’re going to be absolute superstars in Year 2. But promise us one thing: if it snows, you have to find us at break time for an epic snowball fight. We will be waiting!

What a truly wonderful year it’s been with Year 2! Wow, what a year it has been for Baobab Class! Looking back, it’s incredible to see just how far we’ve come, how much we’ve learned, and how many unforgettable memories we’ve made.

Within a month, I could hand-on-heart tell my lovely Palm class that they were the best class of my entire life. No joke. Not a lie. Each person brings their innate curiosity, deep questioning and joy for learning to each lesson. From the start of the year our class has been shaped by collaboration with everybody working together to support each other and our own learning.

Our year brims with so many memories: the daily random facts which cause the class to dissolve into laughter and gales of glee. Our trip to the forest buzzed with facts, friendship and snacks on the trainit was wonderful to see how the year 5 classes worked so beautifully together on all the activities. During our trip to the museum, we crammed onto the buses yet we kept each other sensible and safe- at the museum it was great to hear the thoughtful reflections on Hungarian history and life.

I cannot express how proud I am of the immense progress each student in Palm has made this year. Tracing the progression in your words in your books through your writing has been incredible to observe. Each week, the level of challenge has increased in maths, the depth of inquiry has gradually got deeper yet each one of you has risen to the challenge.

As a teacher, I will be so utterly bereft to see you graduate to year 6 but I know that you are ready to blossom further in ways which will change the world.

It’s hard to write this letter to you knowing that our year is coming to a close and that soon you will be moving on to MYP. We have had such a magnificent year together, learning and laughing, playing games, going on trips, and making every day a joy in school.

As I think back over the school year, so many memories come flooding back. When we tried to go to a museum that was closed…oops. Our visit to the Parliament was the first time I think you were all completely silent. The National Art Gallery when you all eagerly called my name to show me artwork you liked, and when we followed the sewer in Aquincum. It’s really been a year full of adventures. Who could forget all the leaves we burned for our camp-fire during the expedition? We have also had some great adventures inside the classroom: Onion’s ever changing hats and slow deterioration, building ancient machines, expedition artefact, a visit from a real archaeologist, messages from the North Pole, and pirate treasure just to name a few.

You have all worked so hard this year. Asking questions, thinking about your learning, taking chances and pushing yourselves to be better all the time. As your teacher I have enjoyed every minute we spent in 6 Maple this year. It was a joy watching you light up when you got a new idea, or something clicked. I know you are all destined to do great and wonderful things. Pursue your passions, continue to be curious, and face every challenge with the determination you have shown this year.

It is important to remember that even when you have not succeeded, you have done it; considering that things can be done in a much better way is always better than not even trying. WELCOME TO THE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

As the Diploma Programme Coordinator at Budapest British International School, it has been an absolute pleasure to work with this remarkable cohort of DP students. Though I joined the school midway through the year, I have been continually impressed by their respectful demeanor, their willingness to engage with both peers and adults, and their dedication to their studies. These students exemplify the values and characteristics that we hold dear at BBIS, making them true role models within our community.

This year marks an exciting milestone as we celebrate our largest DP cohort to date. Following the success of last year’s pioneering group of 13 graduates, we now have 32 students who have risen to the challenge

of the IB Diploma Programme with admirable resilience and determination. Not only have these students grown both individually and as a cohesive group, but they have also made remarkable strides in preparing for the future. Their university applications span four continents and include some of the world’s leading institutions, reflecting the ambition and hard work that define our DP community.

The DP curriculum is known for its rigorous academic demands, and our students should be incredibly proud of how they have embraced these challenges. Along the way, they have encountered moments of self-doubt, faced setbacks, and yet time and again they have shown resilience—dusting themselves off and persevering. This is not only a testament to their own strength and character but also a reflection of the supportive environment at BBIS. It speaks to the dedication of their teachers, the encouragement of their parents, and the community spirit that underpins everything we do as a school.

TO OUR 2025 DP2 GRADUATES

It’s remarkable how quickly time passes. For many of you, I’ve had the privilege of knowing you for five years, and I’ve genuinely enjoyed seeing you grow into the young adults you are today. Not just more knowledgeable and academically capable, but more thoughtful, more self-aware, and more connected to the world around you.

Some memories stand out clearly — running Young Enterprise in the Hobbit House, assemblies in the Bubble, Mate TL arriving with his laptop and homemade heat cooling system in a plastic bag, lockers squeezed into what is now the medical room, and all of you queuing for lunch in the old dining room. You’ve lived through Covid, dealt with changing teachers, shifting spaces, and plenty of uncertainty — and yet you never let it stop you. You adapted, supported one another, and kept moving forward.

Academically, your achievements speak for themselves, and you should be proud — we certainly are. The fantastic Art exhibition is just one example of your great work. But what stays with me most is your attitude to learning: the questions you ask, the curiosity you show, and the way so many of you now think beyond yourselves. You are not just capable students — you are decent, principled people who have the tools, the means, and, I hope, the motivation to make a real difference in our world. It certainly needs you.

As one of the very first classes in BBIS history, you hold a truly special place in my heart. You’ve grown with the school, shaped its spirit, and helped build the foundation for what BBIS is today. As we know, the Diploma is no easy feat and it is a huge accomplishment that you have made it through the deadlines, IAs, IO’s, EEs, and of course, the examinations. To the student ambassadors Adele and Josh, thank you for your hard work on the numerous whole school activities such as the mural in the common room, the bajazzling event, which still makes me laugh to the pie the teacher event ( as you know, I was happy to pie Mr. Wheatley) You were always eager to make a difference and your contributions have made a huge impact.

To my Business class, although our time was cut short, I am so proud of you and know that you will have excelled in your exams. I have loved the interesting chats we have had, from Martina talking about her family business to Ash always adding balance to our discussions. First of all—congrats! You made it through without spontaneously combusting from stress, so you’re already ahead of the game. Though we haven’t known each other long, I’ve loved watching each of you figure things out, push through tough times, and grow into amazing young adults. I can’t wait to see what you all become—and I truly mean it, don’t be strangers! You’ll forever be my students, even after leaving BBIS, so please reach out whenever you need guidance, want to share exciting news, or just fancy a chat. While this is an exciting time in your life, it can also feel stressful and overwhelming—and that’s completely normal. As you prepare to venture off into the world, here are a few tips to get you through your first year:

1. Go to class. Yes, even the 8 a.m. ones—or better yet, try to avoid having 8 a.m. classes.

2. Learn to cook at least one proper meal and keep your living space reasonably clean.

3. It’s okay not to have it all figured out. Nobody does—just be give yourself grace and remember it’s perfectly fine to ask for help when you need it.

4. Enjoy the chaos, learn a lot, laugh often, and don’t forget to call your family every now and then (they will track you down).

I have been in BBIS since the very beginning and have been fortunate enough the see it grow and devlop into what we are today, BBIS was nevery a school but a familyu that I am proud to be apart of. I am proud to say I’m an OG of the BBIS community. So many memories that I can gather from the 7-8 years I have spent at BBIS. There are no favorites or regrets during my years at this school including the amazing people that I have met. I will forever be grateful for my classmates and friends that were key to our survival of MYP and DP and who always accepted and supported each other. I think my class was always very supportive (after we survived the teenage gossip stage) and I don’t think I would have enjoyed school without the people I graduate with. I will never forget our time of sweet gossip behind the “unpopular teachers” we joked about (poloska, szotyatt Barack, etc.). Even when we chose HL chem with Lili that will forever be my worst decision that will forever hunt me. I don’t have a favourite memory but I liked when we played Foosball outside, back when we had free time. I will probably miss the school itself and the way everything operated, as university will be completely different. During my time at BBIS I became more open and social compared to MYP5 and before.

The main piece of advice I would give myself in DP1 is to start doing things like the CAS project as soon as possible as well as never underestimating or procrastinating before a test, especially important ones like university tests.

Not much exciting happening after graduation, apart from a ton of travelling and attempting to find housing in the Netherlands to start University. The future is uncertain but I have hopes to finish my course and move on from there.

I am extremely grateful that I got an opportunity to live a new and a very different life from the one I had before. I never expected myself to be surrounded by people from all over the world and study in a foreign language.

BBIS gave me a lot of experience and lots of life lessons, as well as the connections that I want to keep for the rest of my life. I want to say ‘thank you’ to all the people who were next to me and to the ones who I am no longer in contact with, for all those wonderful and significant moments together. I cherish all the experiences I got and I hope that I gave some people something that they also find valuable. I will miss all of this, but I believe that we will still stay close.

Big gratitude to all the teachers for your patience. You didn’t just teach me your subject, but something even more important -- various life lessons that made me a different person.

If I got the opportunity to talk to my 12 year old self starting at BBIS, I would tell her to just enjoy everything, even if it feels boring or worthless, because it will fly by in an instant. The hostels, the field trip foods, the MYP science lessons and art classes will turn from unbearable to the best memories she and her friends will make along their way. I would say I’m happy to have survived the IB, but I was always someone who secretly loved going to school, loved working on all her projects, loved sharing her ideas and loved becoming smarter. I hope in the future I manage to stay true to myself and my core values, mostly to the idea that whatever I set out to do, I am able to achieve. In ten years I see myself in a big city, working at my fast paced and important job as a doctor, giving people a second chance at life again. Also hopefully I will already be engaged to my future husband, with a gigantic diamond ring. Ultimately, I just want to be remembered here at BBIS for my brilliant TOK and Extended Essay, but maybe more deeply, as someone who was always pleased with her goals when someone laughed at them, but always knew, if she worked hard enough she could achieve even more.

It is such a pleasure to study in BBIS and the IB program for years. In this school i met a lot of people that come from different cultures and backgrounds. Everyone has been so nice and rescpectful and I have made so many life long friends (Josh, Jacob, Mariia to name a few. I want to thank them so much for helping me in my studies.

My favourite memories from BBIS are my first school day, first meetings with my friends and sports competitions.

These past two years have been a strange chapter in my life, filled with many events that changed my views. During this time, I realized just how long I had been neglecting myself and my own comfort. Now, I’m trying, at least a little, to listen more to myself, my desires, and that’s something I genuinely wish for others too.

I’d say DP was a good time, but not something I’ll particularly miss. I hope that in the future, I’ll be able to truly find comfort within myself and in simply being with myself, because, after all, the one person you spend your whole life with is you.

As I reflect on this graduating class, I can’t help but remember the incredible bond we’ve built over the past eight years, from MYP to DP. It’s been a journey filled with growth, laughter, and unforgettable moments. One of my proudest moments as your teacher was watching you grow into young adults who embraced courage, openness, and, of course, the Spanish language. I will always treasure the way you confidently spoke Spanish during our trips to Spain, demonstrating not just your linguistic skills but your willingness to connect with others.

My advice as you move forward is simple: Stay curious and never stop learning—especially when it comes to Spanish. You’ve shown that perseverance and community can take you far, and I know you will carry that spirit with you into whatever you do next.

I firmly believe that resilience and unity are the legacy you are leaving behind at BBIS. You’ve supported each other through thick and thin, and I have no doubt that you will continue to do so in the future.

There have been countless funny moments, but if I had to pick one, it would be from a residential trip somewhere in the middle of nowhere in Hungary. I

believe it was during the MYP3 night hike—walking without flashlights with the guide, and suddenly, Mate fell off the track. It was both scary and hilarious, and it’s a memory that still makes me laugh.

If this class were a TV show, it would definitely be called Saved by the Bell. I’m sure you don’t recognize the reference, as you’re too young, but the show captures that nostalgic, fun feeling and has that “we made it through together” vibe, which is exactly what this class represents. It’s the perfect fit for a group that’s been together for so long, supporting one another through every challenge.

To sum up my experience with you, I can’t help but think of My Favourite Class Ever!—because that’s truly how I feel. You’ve made me a better teacher, and I’ve learned that teaching is about more than just lessons and assessments; it’s about the relationships we build and the moments we share. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have watched so many of you grow from little kids into the young adults you are today. It was a true privilege to teach Márk and Máté for seven years, and to share many meaningful lessons (and laughs) with Anna, Noa, Laura, and Ash over several years as well. I still smile when I think back to our Friday spelling club – filled with laughter, learning, and the familiar faces of Martina, Lili, and many of the others mentioned above. I hope those afternoons left you with at least a few good memories – and maybe even a bit of lasting knowledge. Thank you for your attention, your kindness in hallway conversations, and above all, your honesty in the classroom. I hope those moments will stay with you, just as they’ve stayed with me. May all your dreams come true – and may you never lose the curious child within you.

What I’ll remember most about this graduating class is their energy (there’s always been so much of it) and how they’ve grown into genuinely polite, kind, and caring young adults. It’s been great to watch them mature and take on the challenges of the DP programme, especially with how much gets thrown at them in such a short space of time. I’ve been especially proud of how they’ve supported each other along the way. They’re always there for one another, whether it’s offering help, encouragement, or just showing up when someone needs it. That kind of care is something you can’t teach.

If I could give them one piece of advice, it would be to remember to find the light moments. Life gets heavy, especially when things pile up, but taking a breath, keeping perspective, and having a laugh makes a real difference. You were always so mature, so genuinely caring. Whatever paths you choose after graduation, your character has already made each of you a winner in life. I’ve known many of this year’s graduating AI maths students since you were in MYP3, puzzling over algebra and trigonometry in the Cube beside the Primary playground. Back then, frustration was often part of the process—sometimes accompanied by a good deal of moodiness! Others joined the class later and had to adapt quickly to the demands of the IB. Across the board, you’ve grown into thoughtful, resilient learners who’ve come to understand that making mistakes is not just part of maths, but part of learning itself. You’ve supported one another through the challenges, kept each other going, and shown real commitment to improving. Your IAs reflected who you are—from ambitious bakers to budding architects— and it’s been a pleasure to see your interests come to life through mathematics. You have been great role models for our younger students, showing that you can take your learning seriously while still enjoying life. As you move on to your next steps, whether in education, sport, or the world of work, remember to stay open minded, curious, ready to tackle a challenge but not afraid to reach out and ask for help.

I remember fondly teaching many of these students when they were in Year 6, during my very first year at BBIS. It was a joy and a privilege to be their class teacher. They were a truly special group—open, confident, and full of energy—and I have such warm memories of our time together. Who could forget the brilliant stop motion animation of Shackleton’s adventure, or their musical performances of The Ice Demon and Dream Factory? These students threw themselves wholeheartedly into everything, and as they leave BBIS, I hope they carry that same enthusiasm and creativity into the wider world. My advice to them is this: stay curious, stay kind, and trust in your ability to navigate challenges—just like you did back in Year 6. I believe their legacy will be their deep involvement in the life of the school; they’ve left a mark through their leadership, spirit, and contributions to so many events and initiatives. Personally, this class will always mean a lot to me. After some time away from being a class teacher, I was a little nervous about returning to the role, but their warmth and positivity made it a wonderful experience. In ten years’ time, I hope to hear that they are happy, thriving, and finding success in whatever paths they’ve chosen. They certainly have the potential to do so.

What I’ll remember most about this graduating class is their rare mix of curiosity about the world and their hilarious need for a little push now and then. They could go from cracking jokes to handling unexpected situations with surprising maturity, and I loved them for that. My proudest moments came when I saw them finding their voices—becoming stronger, braver writers and more open, authentic people. One of the funniest memories? When I had them do odd tasks during our study of Persepolis—raising pinkies while writing, switching hands mid-sentence—all to simulate the absurdities of authoritarianism. Not one of them questioned it, which yet again is a testament of their trust. If this class were a show, it would definitely be Friends—full of chaos, loyalty, and inside jokes. They taught me patience and the importance of being genuine. As they move on, my advice is: don’t wait for the “perfect” moment. Sometimes now is the moment. In ten years, I hope to hear they’ve found joy and purpose—wherever they are.

You guys were my most positive teaching experience as a secondary teacher. You were open to everything I was “experimenting” with in the realm of Digital Design. You were the most supportive group of students I had the pleasure of working with in MYP 1-3. I’ll never forget the looks on my colleagues’ faces when I said, at the beginning of those years, that I wanted the last lesson on Fridays with you. Those were the chillest lessons ever.

There are way too many memories from the past 6-7 years: the Ice Demon Show, unforgettable talent show performances, sports days, trips, and pushing through COVID like champions, also, your faces when you joined my Google Meet room the day I shaved... Some of you were even in my legendary Year 6 Maths group, and while I played that song way too many times at the end of our lessons, “I wanna see you out that door, bye, bye, bye” hits differently now that you’re graduating. I wish all of you so much fun and success wherever life takes you. And if we meet again 5-10 years from now, I hope you’ll have at least as much happiness in your lives as I’ll have grey beard bits by then. You are one of my “this is why it worth teaching” group of students, thank you for all the good times and see you around!

“The DP2’s are so great!”. That was the general conclusion every time I got to talk with a colleague. Teaching the physics class made me feel really lucky, but when I got the chance to see you all during the collaborative science project I realized that this whole generation; each one of you, and in your own way; has something extra. It is not about the grades, it is about the attitude and the daily interactions. Now is your task to use your particular superpower to make a positive impact out there. Now you are free from school and with freedom comes responsibility. Be responsible and make your story a very successful one!

I am so glad I have been able to spend the last two years as your homeroom tutor. Each one of you has matured so much, and I’m very proud of what you have accomplished. I hope that you, like me, have lots of fond memories of starting the day with laughter and positivity in our homeroom.

As you move on to bigger and better things, I hope you keep in mind that your life is entirely yours to create. There is no set path to happiness or success. Understanding that gives you a lot of freedom, but also a lot of responsibility for creating a reality that you can be proud of. Whilst I never had the opportunity of teaching you as a classroom teacher, I have had the pleasure of crossing many of your paths through school sport. Although I joined the school at a time when DP studies and academic commitments have been at the forefront of your thoughts, through coaching and House events I have been able to first hand witness your abilities, enthusiasm and endeavour. For that I am grateful. I want to wish you all the best for the future, regardless of what it may hold for you all, collectively and individually. Watching you grow has been one of the greatest joys of my time at BBIS. Some of you were part of that first Year 4 class when BBIS was beginning its journey, and I had the privilege of being both your coteacher and Spanish teacher. You know who you are, and even though I didn’t teach all of you in the later years, you will always be in my heart as those joyful, curious girls who brought laughter and light into every lesson.

Our Spanish classes were always a mix of laughter and determination—yes, we had fun, but you showed up with such incredible focus. I’ll never forget how seriously you took every challenge, how fiercely you competed (Taco Tuesday, who could forget?), and how much heart you put into learning. It made teaching you a true pleasure. My proudest moments came when I heard you holding full conversations in Spanish—confident, expressive, and completely in command—and realized just how far you had come. You proved that with dedication and commitment, mastering a language beautifully in just 16 months is possible—truly a remarkable achievement!

As you embark on this exciting new chapter, my wish for you is simple: “Live in a gratitude mode, and everything will turn out just right”. Keep your hearts open to new experiences, to different people and perspectives. Stay curious, and never stop believing in your potential. I loved how enthusiastically my students came to my lessons, and we had the best conversations about biology. One of my proudest moments as their teacher was when a student successfully passed the entrance exam to medical university. We also shared many laughs during lessons, making learning both fun and memorable. If this class were a TV show, it would definitely be called “The Bio Club.” My advice to them as they move on is to believe that in the end, everything is going to be alright—because if it’s not alright, it’s not the end yet. In ten years, I hope to hear that they have succeeded in their chosen fields.

It is always a bit weird joining a class for the DP2 year of the IB. This goes for new students at a school but also for new teachers. Both are never sure what to expect from the other. Lucky for me in DP2 Chemistry, I was introduced to a diverse and very grounded group of students. Diverse in terms of interests, nationalities and personalities. Grounded in terms of self-awareness, sense of humor and angst.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed our months together during classes that were full of some deep thought, plenty of laughs and mutual respect. I would like to thank you all for making me feel welcome in a new school and country. Best of luck with wherever your path leads.

The past two years have flown by with this fantastic tutor group, DP2 TH. You’ve been amazing — patient, hardworking, resilient, and confident (even if punctuality was never quite our collective strength!).

I think I’ve asked, “Have you got your lanyard?” more times than I can count — but somehow, we always made it work. This group holds a special place in my heart, especially since I’ve known some of you since Year 6. Watching you grow into the thoughtful, creative, and spirited individuals you are today has been one of my greatest joys as a teacher. I’ll never forget the time we all dressed up for Halloween — you as prisoners, and me as the prison guard — or those early years when our classroom turned into a cloud lab, a battlefield, or even a time machine.

My proudest moment has been seeing how far you’ve come — supporting one another through challenges, celebrating each other’s successes, and showing real maturity along the way. You’ve left a legacy of creativity, and quiet leadership that will be remembered for years. The song that best sums up our journey? It has been a great pleasure and filled me with pride to be leading the first small team of aspiring designers here at BBIS. Curating a team and leading the design of a school yearbook is not a first for me, but having to carefully consider who I want to ask to join me was not a decision I took lightly. These individuals I knew are not only hard working but have an appreciation for design. Not only understand it but want to develop their skills further looking into university. Boti demonstrates determination and commitement to continusously mastering new skills, Marko demosntrates good leadership and communication skills and Jennifer continues to demosntrate her talents as a artist. Reflecting back on our year, I would take into more consideration how much time we dedicate to working together as a team. Spending more time together to collaborate, learn and laugh.

Working on this project with these three amazing colleagues, was one of the strangest and one of the funnest experiences of my life. It deffinetly gave me lots of insight on what it is like to be a graphic designer, but it also taught me descipline, leadership skills, and a whole lot about team work. As we worked I definetly feel like, at the end we werent just colleagues but also friends. I will always remember the hours we worked on this after school and between breaks as fun memories working with my friends telling jokes and teaching and improving eachother. Hang on to see what we will do next year.

This was my first time contributing to the yearbook as an illustrator, creating reflections and various illustrations. It was a challenging experience that required careful thought, creativity, and time. Through this process, I improved my artistic skills and gained a better understanding of teamwork and communication. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be part of a project that holds special meaning for our school community.
