Primary Music Another wonderful year has already come to an end. Even though the restrictions kept us from having most of our usual musical events we had a very successful year. I really enjoyed our lessons together both live and online.

One highlight of this year was our singing day in October before the restrictions came into place. It warmed my heart to hear staff and children singing beautifully together.

The Christmas Show this year provided a brand-new opportunity for us. We were able to record the entire show in segments, while we were following the health guidelines. I was amazed at how professional everyone acted in front of the cameras and I will never forget the experience of recording the sound in the Hobbit House like our own studio. The best part in this experience was that the whole primary school got to work together on one production from Reception all the way to Year 6.

There was lots of music making in classes with all kinds of instruments. Year 6 learnt to accompany 2 songs on the keyboards. Year 5 had a lot of fun playing as an ensemble during our Samba unit and Year 4 got very confident in playing on the ukulele. Although Year 3 didn’t get to start learning to play the recorder this year as planned, I trust that they can learn it next year. It was always a pleasure to teach KS1 about creating music with their voices focusing and rhythm and melodies.

I love how the BBIS community is filled with incredible musical talents and enthusiasm.

Primary PE An excellent year with many ups and downs has come to an end. With adapting PE due to Covid restrictions and the closure of MOM Sport, our students have shown resilience throughout this year in the transition to and from Online Learning. Whilst we have been unable to return to swimming lessons, student have progressed throughout the year that culminated in a hot but fantastic Sports Day to finish. We are already planning ahead for a range of activities and showcase opportunities for all of our students and can't wait to see you all involved!

In Reception and Year 1 the students have grown and blossomed into budding young athletes developing their movement skills, communication and teamwork across a range of activities. During Online Learning our youngest students engaged in activities and challenges focussed on getting active and breaking the time spent on screens. Since returning to school these students showed maturity to continue building their skills and I look forward to seeing them progress throughout the next school year.

All the best, Mr. Best Throughout the year Primary PE has been excellent with students engaging across a range of topics and activities. Introducing and learning new sports and new skills this year has been great to see as students rise to the challenges given to them. As Mr. Best mentions, the transition to online learning was handled so well by our students with them producing amazing work in the gymnastics and fitness units. Some students were also able to perform their learning for the rest of primary school, showing their creation from the dance unit, allowing many students to step outside of their comfort zone in performing to an audience, with the end result being amazing. I have very much enjoyed working with our students this year and I can not wait to see you all back here after the summer break.

Primary MFL The Modern Foreign Languages Department at BBIS offers German and Spanish to all BBIS students. Learning a modern foreign language is vital to becoming a global citizen, as it helps the learner to appreciate the language, culture and people of another country; appreciating their similarities and differences. Our curriculum aims to construct learning around relevant and authentic situations and develop the four skills: speaking, reading, writing, and listening.

Our highlight this year was celebrating the European Day of Languages. After lunchtime, students had the opportunity to have a lemonade provided by the school in the bubble served by MYP students. It was amazing to see our wonderful students giving their best to practice the foreign language they are learning at school.

Primary Computing Our curriculum for Computing has been developed to equip primary students at BBIS with the foundational skills, knowledge and understanding of computing they will need for the rest of their lives. It has been divided into three main areas: Computer Science, ICT Literacy and Digital Citizenship. Throughout each year level, students have progressed through projects related to these three areas, ultimately transitioning from primary to MYP as competent, creative and responsible technology users.

In celebration of the Week of Code, annually promoted by hourofcode.com, we taught an hour of code in every class throughout BBIS. Students were introduced to coding activities matching their level of understanding resulting in them receiving certificates for completing sets of challenges.

This year saw the first ever use of AR in our school, promoted by MYP students Leo and Josh. Year 4 students really pioneered the use of Merge Cubes in lessons led by Miss Chien for the purposes of cross-curricular research and extended exploration. They looked into the anatomy of ears to study the auditory system, brought living dinosaurs into the classroom, and even traveled back in time to Ancient Egypt. Year 4 students imparted this newfound knowledge to Year 2 students as well.

Primary ART Year 4 explored a diverse range of materials this year. Highlights include creating printing stamps based on African patterns to decorate a collaborative tapestry. For a Topic project on dinosaurs, we made salt dough from scratch and imprinted it with dinosaur prints to mimic realistic fossils. The final project of the year looked to Surrealism with a range of exercises to stimulate students’ creativity. They produced fantastical creatures in the style of Dutch surrealist Karen Appel with mixed media oil pastel, watercolour gradients and collage techniques.

Year 5 their highlight was their last collaborative project with Ms. Chien. They explored the life cycle of a t-shirt and learnt that a lot of old clothes go to waste, which isn’t sustainable. They wanted to raise awareness on this issue of fast fashion and decided to upcycle old t-shirts to create a garland tent that will be used by the reception class. This was constructed by cutting up old t-shirts, making yarn from them and then braiding them together into long pieces. These were hung from an old hula hoop, which suits their upcycling idea of the project. This collaborative work is created by both of the year 5 classes together.

Year 6 their highlight was learning about topography and creating their own topographic map by using cardboard. To understand the concepts of topographic maps, they drew on their own hands, which visualised it clearly on how a map looks like with topographic lines.

They were able to use crafting knives to cut out the cardboard in the shapes they wanted their island to be. Then they stuck their cut out shapes together, stacking them just like a topographic map would show. After everything was stuck down, they could paint their own island with the things they wanted to see on their island like a river, a waterfall, a beach…

The teacher then put everything together into a big sea filled with little different islands for the display board!

Visual Art has played a major role in Primary across curriculum. It has been so lovely to see the halls of our school always adorned with colourful and eye-catching displays of student work. We truly have a highly creative community at BBIS and it is always inspiring to see that artistic spirit shine so brightly.

MYP 1 Lang&Lit Units We did: Sonnets The rabbits Wonder Advertisement Despereaux

In our class, the units we enjoyed the most were the ‘Despereaux’ (by Kate DiCamillo) unit and the ‘Wonder’ (by R.J Palacio) unit because they were both novels and talked about the characters’ points of view. We liked that because it let us use our creativity and we could also listen to fun stories.

The unit that challenged most of us the most was the sonnet unit, it was pretty hard to learn something completely new. Especially when we have to use the strict rules of a sonnet.

Sonnets: We analysed Shakespeare’s poems and sonnets, explored new themes and thought creatively to compose our own sonnets. Our summative was about writing our own sonnet and marking the rhyme schemes, wordings, types of figurative language and syllables counts. This unit is about helping us find our creativity and new ways of thinking as well as expressing how we feel through writing.

Wonder: This unit is about character development and analysis of characters. We read a novel called ‘Wonder’ by R.J Palacio and analysed the novel after we were done reading. For our summative we searched for quotes to describe August (one of the main characters) and how he connects to our learner profiles. We then decorated the poster and drew pictures on it and hung it up on the walls.

Advertisement: In this unit we learned about fast fashion, the effects it has on people and the environment and how to stop the dangerous cycle of throwing away clothes and making new ones when they can still be worn. We learned about persuasive advertising techniques and for our summative assessment we had to make a social service advertisement in which we encouraged people to stop fast fashion.

Despereaux: In this unit we read a novel called ‘Despereaux’ by Kate DiCamillo and we analysed the novel after we read the it.

This unit was supposed to talk about courageous characters and how they can be brave, overcome their fears and do what they must for the greater good. For our summative we created a newspaper article about the events in the castle where Despereaux is, in the perspective of one of the characters.

The Rabbits: This unit taught us a lot about how Britain colonised Australia and the fights and wars they had. We read a book called ‘The Rabbits’ by John Marsden and Shaun Tan, it was a picture book that looks like a children’s book but actually talks about a lot of dark things about the colonisation, such as killing and side effects of the colonisation. It also talks about the reasons why Britain started the colony in the first place.

MYP 1 EB We learnt…

In this year we learnt a lot about poems. We wrote poems about the weather and we has a whole unit about sonnets. We even created a big book of poetry on art week which had our poems and our artworks in it.

Challenging...

A few students thought that the sonnet unit was challenging because we had to memorise lots of rules for the sonnets and at the end of the unit we had to write a sonnet by looking at a picture and without getting any help at all .

We enjoyed…

We really enjoyed the advertisement unit because we got to choose anything we wanted to create an ad for and we got to make a poster about it and we presented it to the class. In our opinion it was fun to make posters and decorate them. We never realised how many ads are all around us and how that changes the way we think.

Developing...

We developed a lot throughout the school year because we went through many units and improved a lot since primary.

In conclusion...

In conclusion we had a really fun year where we learnt many new things and we created many different projects that we never did in primary. Lang and Lit can be difficult sometimes but we learnt many different interesting things. We learnt how to write a poem, how to use persuasive devices and a lot about history and how texts show people’s lives.

MYP 2 Lang & Lit English Creativity through chaos: In this unit we learned how to analyse texts and at the way historical events can be the inspiration for books. We started the unit by looking at some propaganda posters from Germany during WWII. These showed what German people thought at the time so we would understand the big ideas in the novel better.

We read the novel ‘The Book Thief’ and learned some information about WWII such as about Ann Frank and how Jewish people had to hide. We did a biography poster about Markus Zusak, the author, and we looked at how writing style can help us visualise the events of a story.

Global Footprints: In this unit, we read the novel ‘Hoot’ and learned about how to write a persuasive letter. The novel was all about little owls that were endangered and how the actions of humans can destroy the habitats of animals.

We saw that humans often make bad choices about what is really important - such as money rather than nature. We wrote a persuasive letter trying to convince the major to make some changes to help the local environment here in Budapest.

Bushrangers and Ballads (collection of ballad poems): In this unit we learned what is a ballad, how its built up and what it tells or shows us. We also created some ballads, this unit we used not just Lang and Lit, but I and S, the two connect in a way which is by we look at ballads done in the past.

Belonging: In this unit, we watched the film ‘Whale Rider’

by New Zealand director Taika Waititi. Through this we learned about how some people don't belong to others, because of their gender, look, or type. That means, some people in our society are alienated because of things they can’t change - which isn’t fair. This also showed us how can someone reach their goal, even if they are rejected and stopped by others. It was a very inspirational film that helped teach us about being kind but also about the language of film analysis.

Murder Mysteries (Christie and Doyle short stories): In this unit we learned the techniques of writing a creative fiction story. We read two short stories: ‘ The Speckled Band’, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and ‘Philomel Cottage’, by Agatha Christie. We learnt all about the cliches and techniques used by writings and tried to write our own creative crime fiction introduction. We also learnt about how modern crime fiction was made possible because of advances in science and technology. Without new inventions such as electricity, photography, fingerprinting and other advances in forensics, we could never have such exciting stories.

MYP 3 | Language & Literature In Language and Literature we were able to learn, practise and improve skills such as essay writing, video making and persuasive speech writing though they were challenging. Throughout the year we were able to do this by looking at different forms of media such as poetry, novels, plays, vlogs and visual narratives.

In this unit we used the visual narrative Woolvs in the Sitee to discuss the idea of perspectives.

We discussed topics of fear and mental health.

We looked at the importance of friendship in helping people to face their fears, be brave and challenge themselves. For our assessment we had to create a visual representation to answer the question Who is Ben?

In this unit we focused on the different versions of love poetry. We looked at many poems written by poets like Petrarch and Elizabeth Barrett Browning and analysed them. After analysing several love poems we found out poets would use a lot of literary devices such as metaphors and similes comparing the subject to various objects of nature. We also discovered and learned about the objectification of women throughout these poems.

Conflict and Consequences In this Unit we focused on the consequences of conflicts in our society. To look into this Unit we used the novel Tomorrow When the War Began as a literary example of what happens to societies and individuals during times of conflict. A lot of students enjoy these type of units where we link real life problems with different forms of literature.

In this unit, we focused on how to improve our vlog and language writing skills. We used vlog to show our creative writing, speech, editing skills and idea generation. We were lucky enough to have the Youtuber ‘ClickForTaz’ to tell us about her experiences with travelling as she vlogs herself going to countries around the world as a living.

Frenemies In this Unit we used the play ‘Othello’ to understand the idea of Frenemies.

For this unit the students had to write an essay about a conflicting idea in the play. This unit allowed us to get an understanding about how terrible racism was in the 1600s. For our summative task we had to write an essay upon the whole play. We had to develop our own essay theme. This essay pushed us extremely hard as it was on a very mature topic.

MYP 3 | Our Year In Pictures

MYP 4 - Lang & Lit The first unit of the year was about migration and refugees. We had to read a wonderful book called ‘In The Sea There are Crocodiles’

by Fabio Geda. Our main task was to make a comparison poster between the novel and a non-fiction text of our own choosing.. The second unit was about writing our own Soliloquy inspired by the Shakespearean play ‘Hamlet’. While working on our speech, MYP4 went online so we had to record ourselves performing/acting our Soliloquy. Once finishing with ‘Hamlet’, MYP4 moved onto a new unit. We read the opening chapter ‘Brave New World’ by Aldous Huxley and watched an awesome film ‘Gattaca’. The two were both science-fiction and looked at the idea of genetic perfection. Our task was to write a comparative essay about these works. It was challenging, but at the same time very interesting. We also did a great oral test. Our last big unit was combined with Science. MYP4 had to read ‘Z for Zachariah’ which is about life of the two last survivors after a nuclear war. Our main task was to make a big comparative poster about a person who got radiation poisoning, and the main character of the book who also got radiation. This unit was the one we enjoyed the most - we were all very proud of the work we did and the knowledge we got.. On the last week of school, we did a diorama about on of the scene of our favorite unit and most students made something related to ‘Z for Zachariah’.

MYP4 - Lang & Lit Our happiest works: We were really proud of these research posters and had fun making a diorama about our favourite unit.

MYP1 PHE Units we Covered: Invasion Games Immune system Fitness bar Volleyball

Fitness Bar: In this unit we learnt about ingredients and the components in fitness bars. We also analysed said components. This is to help us create a fitness bar that take everything we analysed into consideration. We then took pictures of the final product and brought the samples to school.

Space invaders: In this unit we did lot of sports to improve on our communication and ways to make space in the field and how to get away from a defender or get the ball to your teammates to score. In this part of the Invasion Games unit we learnt about handball. We were split up into 4 separate teams and we compete in small competitions to raise our understanding of the sport as well as our skills.In our Football games we were in teams of 4 and we competed with each other. We did this part of the invasion games in momsport. Our goal was to work together and try to defeat other teams in football form. Teamwork was also a main focus in the football games as we had to work together.

MYP1 PHE Online Learning: In online learning we did our Yoga unit and Immune system unit. We made a plan of what we want to do in yoga and recorded it. In the immune system unit, we made presentations about the immune system and made a timetable of what we will do to improve our immune system.

Volleyball:

In our Volleyball games we had a whole pre-season league season and tournament season to learn and make our volleyball skills perfect, as well as to improve our techniques skills to try to win the whole tournament. Our main focus was also teamwork and collaboration skills, it was important for us to work together in order to achieve the most out of the unit.

Ultimate frisbee : In this unit we learned about the rules of ultimate frisbee. We spent the first 3-4 lesson practising the skills and techniques of the frisbee. Then we started to play games. We usually played the game in two groups and the way to score a point is to catch the frisbee in opposite starting line.

Circuit training : In this unit we learned different kinds of circuit trainings. We learned a range of different techniques and we did this unit during the second school term.

Basic first aid : We were doing this unit while we were having the frisbee unit. we learned the basic information about first aid and we performed it as well.

Handball : The handball unit is the first unit that we learned this year. We learned the basic rules of the handball, the information and history of the handball. We learned about how to play it and how to score and win.

MYP2 PHE Play it your way : We had this unit while we had online classes. For this unit we needed to create a game for our choosing year group. We planned our games and played with our chosen year group.

All around the net : This unit was in school and was our last unit of the year. The name of this game is Spike Ball or Round Net. We learned how to bounce around the ball, spike the ball in different was and the rules of the game.

Find your balance : In this unit, we learned about different kinds of gymnastic skills and we learned this during online class.

VOLLEYBALL During the Volleyball unit we learned and practiced our volleyball skills, such as dig, set, spike and serve. We also try to do three touches with our skills in a game situation. Some of people try to do spike and overhead serve said they are all very challenging. we also played some games during the PHE class, everyone is trying to do everything we learned in class, volleyball is all about the teamwork, you can play a volleyball game with your own.

ATHLETE TRAINING PROGRAM In the Athlete Training Program Unit we created a training program used to develop targets skills so that they could reach their goal. Students worked in pairs and aimed to create a training program for their partner. Students then had to conduct the 3 week program created by their partner conduct tests to see if they had improved.

HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY In the Human Physiology Unit students learned and discovered the systems in the Human Body which allow humans to function.

This unit covered systems such as the Skeletal System, the Circulatory System and the Muscular System. The Unit was targeted around the question that if humans understood how the body worked could they be able to improve as a species.

CAPOEIRA In the Capoeira unit we learned, developed and practised our moves for the sport. Students worked in pairs to create a Capoeira motif that consisted of at least two attack, defence and movement skills of each person. We spent time practising the motif with our partner, we then recorded ourselves and edited them together. The aim of this unit was to create an understanding of the he sport Capoeira.

BASKETBALL In the Basketball Unit students aimed to create skills cards for basketball. In the end the students each created a skills card for a type of passing, a type of dribbling and a type of shooting. In the process they conducted multiple games and improved their skills as well.

Ultimate Frisbee - This was the first unit we did in MYP4, we played some games and learned some throwing and catching techniques. For example, how to hold a frisbee, how to throw a frisbee and how to serve with a frisbee

Badminton - The second MYP4 unit. We learned how to throw and serve the shuttle, we played a lot of badminton games against each other like who can make the most points. However, we couldn’t finish the unit because we went to online learning, for summative assessment we had to analyze a Badminton match.

Gymnastics - This unit was during online learning, we had to make a wonderful video about us performing 15 gymnastics movements which we collected on the website called ‘Padlet’.

Sleep and Wellbeing - For this unit, we had to measure our sleep and write an online diary, how did we sleep, the quality of our sleep, what did we achieve today, how can we improve our sleep and so on.

Cliffhanger - This was the last unit we did, we went to Gravity Boulder, and climbed some walls. To climb we need to put chalk on our hands, so it don’t get sweaty. Before and after climbing, we did a little warming up so we don’t injure ourselves.

MYP1 Maths The classes were focusing on Data handling, where MYP 1 collected data in class and transformed it into their class data.

This was an interesting unit where MYP1 learned to apply maths in real life situations. The Classes created new things by using relationships and logic.

This unit was about fractions, decimals, and percentages. They enjoyed using critical thinking to collaborate, organize and make connections between decimals, fractions and percentages.

MYP1 Maths MYP1 visited the Ludwig Museum and they learnt about the creations of Albert-László Barabási and the networks he created. During this trip, they also learnt about photographs and how to edit them to make them more eye-catching. They collaborated with one another and explored connections between things in more detail.

This was MYP1s Graphs and Networks unit where they had to make connections and create a network based on School and how they travel through the school to reach certain destinations, as the place where their lesson is held

MYP2 Maths In the angles unit, we measured things in real life situations.

These are butterfly wings that has several different types of angles, which we learned to identify by looking at its size.

We enjoyed this unit because in the assessment we got to choose what we would like to make, which made it more personal and interesting.

In the calculator unit, we viewed the different buttons on our calculators to know exactly how to use it.

We enjoyed the calculator unit because it was useful for revision and helped us remember how to calculate different problems using a calculator.

This was the final part of the ratios unit, where we baked our own cakes. We got a list of ingredients and had to adjust it to fit our needs, therefore apply what we have learned during the unit in a real life situation.

MYP3 Maths The sixth maths unit was called ‘ Mathematical Art’. the student’s job was to explore different artist that use maths in their art work. the artist that they studied were Semira Mian, Escher, and Alex Konahin. As a practical assignment, some of the students created some exceptional artworks inspired by the artists we looked at.

As a summative, MYP 3 created art workshops to teach other classes about art styles that use mathematical techniques.

All the other MYP classes could choose three interactive workshops to be a part of. this enabled them to experience several mathematical art techniques first hand.

In the very beginning of the year, MYP 3 students studied different 3D shapes. They learned how to calculate things such as volume and surface area. For the summative, students focused on the container they used as a classroom and thought of innovative ways to use a container.

In the fourth Maths unit the students focused on triangles and trigonometry. Here, students learned how to measure the perimeter, and find the missing lines of different triangles. MYP3 students also learned how to use different functions on the calculator such as TAN, SIN, and COS to aid their calculations.

MYP4 Maths In this task we had a tube of Pringles. If you didn’t know, the Pringle’s shape is a Hyperbolic Paraboloid. We had to create a kind of circle using only pringles and we had to make the chips fit together in the most perfect way possible.

‘I enjoyed the ‘Measuring things’ unit or ‘Triangles’ unit most. They were the most helpful based on real-life situations’. Emanuele Lionetti - MYP4 Student I learnt the most in the ‘Weird and wonderful symbols’. I didn’t know anything about the things I was looking at and they were definitely helpful and will definitely help in the future.

This was the ‘Circles’ unit which was pretty interesting and I’ve never done anything like this before. We had to re-design the BBIS logo using either a digital software or manually in a math book.

This is my outcome, it looks pretty good, I changed a few things which make the logo look more interesting and creative.

MYP1 Spanish This year in Spanish we have learned how to introduce ourselves, how to express our preferences, activities we do in our free time. I have also learned about clothes and which is my favorite season and which season we do not like.

MYP2 Spanish

We used our creativity to make presentations and be inquirers in the language. We also developed our writing skills to use a wide range of vocabulary in different formats.

MYP3 Spanish This year in the Spanish capable group we had a very enriching challenging course . We have developed our communication as well as our vocabulary skills. We also had done some projects and presentations throughout the year which required each student to be a risk taker.

In our school we have a wall where we put up our spanish work. As we move on from one unit to another the wall changes with it and is filled up with out activities what we done.

MYP4 Spanish In the beginner group, we’ve learnt basic grammar and vocabulary, and we’ve tried our best in our assessment.

We work hard to develop our speaking, listening, writing and reading skills in Spanish.

MYP1 German Over the year in our first unit we started learning basic expressions, phrases, to introduce ourselves and we were learning about the German culture and German speaking countries.

In the next unit “Who are you?” we learned about physical characteristics and personality traits to describe people, friends and family members.

In the following unit “Daily Routine” we have learned how to talk about about daily activities in German.

In the following unit “Home, sweet home” we learned about how to describe different houses, rooms and furniture.

In our last unit “In my free time” we learned about what we do in our free time, activities we do and how we can live a balanced life.

MYP3 German In this year in the capable german group we have been learning about several interesting units which have identified new perspectives in everyone's mindset.

3.The third unit was about “Gesunde Gewohnheiten” and we

talked about how a healthy lifestyle looks like. We also talked about what habits people should leave out from their life and why having a healthy lifestyle is good for you and can help you have a better life.

4.The fourth unit was “Reisen” which was all 1.The first units we have covered was “Unsere erde,

Verantwortung”.This unit was mainly about waste and garbage that is produced on the earth and how they affects the environment and habitats.

about what travelling is and why we like it. We covered vocabulary connected to travelling and we looked at people's vlogs on their travel to germany and other places.

2.The second unit was

“Soziale Medien” and we looked at how bullying happens online a lot and how it affects people's mental health. We created videos showing cyber bullying and than interpreted its message and discussed it in more depth.

5.The last unit was “Mode und Konsumieren” which was about fashion and how clothes are made. We also covered how the clothing industry affects the environment and what conditions people work in who make the clothes.

We did trailers in the first unit and tried to create a trailer for a book that does not have a trailer yet. We could make it in almost any platform. Like some chosen to do it in a popular game called “Roblox”. We had to use our editing skills to make the trailer the best as possible. We had to think of different books that we have and decided which one would be the most appropriate.But first we needed to draw our designs, and then go and design them and make the trailer.

In our last unit we had to crate a budget template for our customer our budget was 500,000 Ft. In the budget template we named the essentials and some luxuries we had to make one for every month. We had to make our template.

MYP2 PA Movie soundtracks to a haunted house. We explored the use of diminished chords, and how to make people jump. We created a tension map that highlighted the story of the movie scenes and how we wanted to manipulate our audience. Some of them were S C A R Y!

We looked at African Drumming music. It was amazing to learn about the culture of completely different people, and to find out that there is a big connection between drumming and gender. It was also much harder than we thought to create layered polyrhythms, even with a MAster drummer to help us.

This year we learned to create different forms of musics in PA, as well to change the form of existing music in order to create new innovative artwork. We used collaborative skill to share our knowledge during learning and use self management skills to complete our artworks as individuals.

MYP4 PA In performing arts we explored different art cultures. We learnt about the history of different cultures and we show our understanding by create music and perform.

It is been a hard year for performing arts as we are having difficulties by having online school and we cannot perform in real life but we still be able to perform and create music even though it is hard to perform during online school by using sountrap, recording videos. The most challenging unit was the trestle mask unit because we were doing online learning and it was hard to be guided and to make a performance fully on your own.

This year in visual arts we developed our creative art skills by creating these types of art. We not only used paper and made paintings, but used different resources such as trash to make something different. We also explored different cultures and we learned about their art in I&S since it was an IDU. We started the year with the van Gogh flower painting unit, where we explored different artworks and painting skills. This was very helpful, because in the unit after, when we did the O’keeffe paintings we could use the same techniques we learned before. the flower sculpture unit was really creative.

MYP4 VA This year in art we have learned to be risk takers and try out new things we have never done. Also, we have been persistent and we have done things that we thought we couldn’t by doing the work step-by-step. Throughout the year we took our learning level to the next level, even with the difficulties of online learning.

We have been able to do the skeleton drawing, paleoart and making a mask at home and these were the most challenging because it was the first time for us to do something like this and there was no physical help from anyone, since we were home alone.

Individuals and societies Social Entrepreneurship

Systems of power and societies Statement Inquiry (System, Power and Society)Different systems of power have both causes and consequences that affect the relationship between individuals and civilisations.

Using toys and lego to represent egalitarian and hierarchical societies:

Statement Inquiry (Social Entrepreneurs)- Social entrepreneurs make choices that consider the equitable use of resources in global interactions.

In this unit we were exploring the art of business and we had to create a business and create a product that will solve one of humanity's’ problems such as pollution and deforestation. People made their own inventions and they have followed lots of procedures such as making the logo, advertisement etc. We needed to make a slide presentation and present it in front of the class, inspired by the Dragon’s Den tv programme. We explored a wide variety of concepts such as choices, the ‘four Ps’, above the line and below the line promotion, resources, equity, biomimicry and sustainability. The aim was to consider how we can create businesses that are also of benefit to people or the planet.

Designs included ocean cleaners, vegan, sustainable lunches and solutions to air pollution.

MYP 1 Maps Statement Inquiry (Maps)- Maps provide insights into time, place and space and show how the world has changed over time, but they can be affected by different perspectives.

In the unit we learnt how to use maps on computers, we use google earth find a lot of information. We looked at maps and learnt how to use and read maps. For the summative assessment we made a research table and explored different types of maps with different types of representation of them such as topographic, satellite, political and etc.

Settlement Statement Inquiry (Settlement)- Understanding how scientific and technical innovations have changed human settlements can be of benefit in designing more sustainable futures.

Global Citizen Statement Inquiry (Global citizen)- Global problems are a reality, but individuals have the power and choice to make a positive difference.

We learnt about how to be a global citizen. We looked at the global problems political problems, environmental problems, terrorism problems. We learnt all the human rights and why human rights are very important. How would humanity look without the human rights. Our summative to make a video about the global problems like what were causes, consequences and solutions. We also learnt about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

MYP 2 The Fashion Industry “Choices bring about changes that shape identity and culture.”

In one of the units we learned about the secrets behind the fashion industry, and about the true origins of our clothes.

We discovered through a documentary the sacrifices for our attire, and how they really get made.

Using this knowledge, we created advocacy speeches towards the principal in the hope that our uniform gets changed in order to help the Earth.

The majority enjoyed this unit because of how we could express ourselves and advocate for people who we don’t even know. It was very useful to realise that our world is not as happy as some people think.

Bushranger and ballads (IDU Unit) “Personal and cultural expression has the power to challenge social constructions of reality in diverse contexts.”

Through an IDU with Language and Literature, we learned about the Australian bushrangers; outlaws who stood up against law enforcement. For example, Bonnie and Clyde always gave part of their money to their parents and their poor relatives.

In this unit we learned reading and ballad writing skills. The unit was about the unfairness of colonisation, and what native people do to win back their rights.

Since we studied the bandits through poems, we wrote ballads ourselves to fully understand the different personal and cultural expressions explored::

Considering multiple perspectives can change or consolidate beliefs and values and the choices that we make.

Towards the end of the year, MYP3 studied the concept of ethics. They learned abut different ethical approches such as conseqensailsm, situationalism, and absolutism. they applied these approaches when considering things such as the equity of different prison systems. for their summative, they had to choose an aspect of ethics to focus on such as different opinions on divorce, or abortion, religious influence on morailty, and the difference between the american and norwegian prison systems. MYP3 students could represent these ideas any way they liked and they were able to present their research in a way that they enjoyed.

MYP 3

Considering multiple perspectives can change or consolidate beliefs and values and the choices that we make.

In their IDU unit, MYP3 focused on the impact globalization has on different cultures. Students learned about different changes custures can go through such as assimilation when one culture is overtaken by the more dominant one, Hybridization, when aspects of different cultures combine to create something new, and hybridization when a practice is taken up by the entire word, so it is no longer unique to one culture.

Students had to consider if, with these changes, cultures can be sustained in modern times. for their summative assessment, MYP3 students combined I&S and Visual Arts to create an artwork using techniques from different cultures they learned in Visual Arts such as a Dia de los Muertos mask, Nok sculpting, or Ebru marbling. Students also had to provide a description of their artwork explaining how their project links to the different topics they studied.

In this unit we have advocated for animal rights, considering economic, social and environmental perspectives.

We have developed a clear message in each presentation using supporting examples to show MYP why animals and the environment are important to protect.

Statement of inquiry: Differing perspectives on systems of power can lead to polarisation.

In our politics unit we have explored the different sides of politics, such as the difference between liberal and authoritarian and left and right. We split into groups and had a campaign representing the two sides. We even picked our names, which would constitute our party. Competition posters, videos and speeches were made, as we were really passionate about our topic and everyone wanted to show why their side is better. Google forms were sent to MYP3 to vote for the campaign they liked and which group have the most vote will win, simulating a real election.

MYP1 - Hungarian Fun… We learnt many new things in the year but we also had lots of fun projects and games.

MYP2 - Hungarian This year in Hungarian literature we studied different types of poems from well-known hungarian poets.

Then we studied romantic literature, where we had to write our own creative stories with illustrations (handmade/digital) in this style.

We researched two very famous poets Arany Janos and Petofi Sandor. The research we collected needed to be put in a presentation and had to be performed orally.

After we studied short stories and dramas.

On the last lesson we created mackets of the famous buildings of Hungary.

MYP3 - Hungarian

MYP4 - Hungarian Our first unit was about migration, we had to make an oral presentation about the different types of migrations and the link between the real life and Hungarian literature migration. Unfortunately for us, we had to present it online because of the pandemic. Our next assessment was to rewrite a scene of the play “Romeo and Juliet”. It was a challenging task, due to the fact that we have never done something similar to this and we had little help because of online learning. MYP4’s next task was to write a comparative essay between the film and book version of the novel called “A Hullám”. We contrasted different scenes and talked about how those scenes made the novel different to the film Our last assignment was to write an epigrammatic poem using the structures we learned in class, from which we used some part of the Greek writers’ Sappho’s form and construction . The poem had to be minimum of 8 lines or as we call it; 4 distichons.
