WEEKENDS AWAY
The safety of our students is of the utmost importance and Houseparents consider all requests to stay overnight away from the Boarding House very carefully. Arrangements for all requests will be thoroughly checked and the following rules will apply without exception. The school reserves the right to deny permission for overnight stays if in our opinion there is risk to student welfare or safety.
If students plan to spend the weekend visiting friends or family, you must talk to your Houseparent. The following information is needed:
The name of the person you wish to stay with. The address where you will be staying. A contact number and email address of the person you wish to stay with.
This information needs to be with the Houseparent by Thursday, prior to the weekend. If a boarder wishes to spend a weekend or to stay with someone other than their parents or guardians then permission needs to be granted for such a visit from a parent or guardian of the boarder as well as the host family.
All school commitments such as matches and practices at the weekend must be honoured before leave commences.
You MUST be in the care of a responsible adult over the age of 25 years when staying overnight away from the boarding house. The school expects overseas boarders to stay with your guardians for long weekends and short holidays.
Houseparents will make contact with your guardian soon after your arrival.
You are not permitted to stay in hotel accommodation unsupervised by a responsible adult. This is in line with the guidance you were sent before joining the school. The school ceases responsibility for you once you leave the school premises having signed out to either return home or stay with your guardian or designated responsible adult.
For all school holidays you are required to complete a form prior to departure providing details of whether you are returning home or going to your guardian.
After a major holiday you should return to the boarding house before 21:00 on the evening prior to the start of term.
There are exceptional occasions when you (particularly from overseas) have to either leave school early or arrive back late. Holiday dates are, however, published at least a year in advance so it should be possible, in most cases, to avoid this. Houseparents can give permission for the absences involving no more than 24 hours.
If you require to leave early or return later than within 24 hours outside of set school dates you should seek the permission of the Head of Sixth Form in advance and your parents should be aware that permission may be declined.
When leaving the boarding house for overnight stays it is advised those in Years 7 to 11 should be collected from the Boarding House by your parent, guardian or host parent where possible.
At the end of term and at half term, you will be expected to leave the House as soon as is convenient after school finishes on the last day. There is no facility for either staying beyond the end of term or arriving a day early before the start of term.
At the end of every term you are expected to attend all normal lessons. If your flight is in the evening of the last day of term you are expected to remain in school to at least 5 hours before your departure time.
During the School holidays (July/August) you will not be able to store your belongings in the house. Maintenance and redecoration works needs to be carried out and the school lets the building out to Language Schools. Arrangements should therefore be made to take back all your belongings or leave them with your guardians.
