WELCOME TO YOUR NEW HOME

We would like to wish you a very warm welcome to the boarding community at Berkhamsted. We are very proud that our boarding houses are warm and welcoming environments in which the students feel at home. Boarding will offer you the chance to enjoy greater independence and more opportunity to be part of a mutually supportive team in which strong friendships are developed. We encourage all our boarders to try their hardest, to be open-minded, to be kind to everyone and to make the most of the many opportunities available.

Moving home needs plenty of planning and preparation for the big day, a move that we aim to make as comfortable as possible. At Berkhamsted School, your new home will be Incents (for boys) or St. John’s (for girls), both on the same site, 200m from School and 100m from the attractive High Street of our historic town, with its wide range of shops and restaurants and mix of old and new buildings. Boarders are accommodated in modern study bedrooms ~ several with en-suite facilities ~ which typically sleep two. Single rooms are available for some older boarders, offering the opportunity of increased privacy whilst, at the same time, giving senior boarders the responsibility of managing their own time for academic study. All boarders in each house have the use of large garden areas for outdoor games and private membership of the KnoxJohnston Sports Centre, in addition to games rooms,

common rooms, computer suites with access to the internet, and communal kitchens where drinks and light snacks can be made. Main meals are taken in one of the two main school dining rooms on Kings or Castle Campus.
