Tuesday Night On Tuesday Night we held a quiz night. I think it is fair to say that all our teams had to exercise their brain cells. There was something in there for all ages and a few tricky ones as well.

Wednesday Afternoon On Wednesday afternoon we held a High tea and a musical stroll down memory lane, for those who qualified for a free bus pass! This was thoroughly enjoyed by all. I don’t think I will forget the ladies who participated in the hokey cokey!

Wednesday Night On Wednesday night we had a ladies pamper night, in which, we didn’t only pamper our outer appearance but our taste buds as well. There were over 110 ladies which surpassed any of our expectations.

Thursday Night Thursday night was the men’s only night. They had to bring their competitive natures with them as they fought it out to be the ultimate sportsman!

Friday Night Then on Friday night we set up a question time. We asked 4 members of our Church here to form a panel and be prepared to answer any questions people had about Church/Christians or where the Church/ Christians stood on some of the issues that face us today. This was a great night and really informative.

Saturday Night On Saturday night, to round off all our evening events, we held a ceilidh. This was great fun; we even had a world champion highland dancer to entertain us at half time and a special performance of ‘Thriller’ from some of the ‘younger’ ones!

Literally hundreds from the community attended throughout the week. It was an amazing experience. The fact that so many of the community were exposed to the Gospel was very encouraging. It took a lot of work to transform the building so why was it done? It was good to have events that allowed people to mix and have fun. For some people it was good to do something different during the school holidays. Many of those who came along to the free events had never been in the church before and it was great to see and hear laughter and conversations. Many people walk past a church and the closed doors reflect their closed minds towards the building and the people there in advance. Each event had a five minute pause for reflection. These varied from wondering if beauty is on the outside or the inside- can you get an extreme makeover that lasts? If you had a big question in life, who would you phone? Who is your “’phone a friend”? Does the adventure end when you get your free bus pass? The feedback has been positive and thoughts have already turned to next year. Perhaps the cafe can happen sooner. Some people have even said that the events made them begin to think about the big questions in life. For us as a Church it was so good to see the congregation working together and there was a real sense of unity. However, this now leaves us with the question, How do we keep and develop our good relationship with the community? . . . . . . . . . .. I hope this has given you a flavour of how much fun the events week generated and how much the community of Ardler and St. Marys appreciated it. This is only the start of the journey for many so please pray for all the folks who came through our doors. Never judge a book by its cover; never judge a person by their address; never judge a church by its walls.

Sunday Night Church on Sunday, followed with soup and rolls for lunch, saw our events week come to an end. It was lovely to have so many folks stay for lunch and even see some new faces.

From all the team at Chalmers Ardler Church.
