A WORD FROM OUR LEADERS Dear Friends,
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I extend our deep appreciation for your contribution to The Bridge Youth & Family Services. Whether you have attended a fundraiser, participated in a fundraising campaign or volunteered for programs or fundraisers, your contribution ensures our youth and families achieve and maintain social and emotional health. The Board of Directors works closely with The Bridge’s administrative team to ensure programs and supports are in place and evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of the community we serve. For example, The Bridge has recently been able to provide vouchers to address transportation challenges for children and families to attend counseling sessions at The Bridge. The Board and administrative team from The Bridge are committed to continuing to provide youth and families with quality, preventative and counseling services. The demand for services continues to grow and your renewed support of The Bridge allows us to maintain the services for our clients. As you take a few moments to review the programs, staff and Bridge contributors highlighted in this annual report, you will most certainly have a better understanding of the impact you have on The Bridge Youth & Family Services. With gratitude,
Mary Pat Krones Chair of the Board of Directors
Dear Supporters of The Bridge, On behalf of The Bridge Youth & Family Services, I thank everyone that supported our mission in Fiscal Year 2019. More than 700 people donated to The Bridge during the year. Around 250 people gave their time, engaged as volunteers in youth mentoring, board and committee work, fundraising support and other activities. In this annual report you will find the highlights of our year. The Board, staff, volunteers and our Young Professional's Board conducted four fundraising events. Our annual gala, golf outing, the walk/run, and trivia night were each events where folks had fun while helping to raise money for important programs. In Fiscal Year 2019 - The crisis team responded to more than 200 cases for the first time in years. These are primarily runaway or locked-out youth, and those in need of immediate suicide assessment. - Mentoring served 34 youth, a 17% increase over the previous year. We always need more caring adults willing to serve as mentors. - Counseling served nearly 600 persons--90% of those children have experienced trauma. In response to youth trauma we sent six staff members to extensive training on SPARCS (Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress). The demand for trauma recovery groups remains high. The Bridge continued to be a leader in the United Palatine Coalition, an organization of 23 Palatine area organizations working together to create better outcomes for youth. I’m always proud of the work our staff and volunteers do, and for the great results they achieve. I hope you share that pride as you peruse this report. Sincerely,
Gregg Stockey Executive Director

PREVENTION & YOUTH ADVOCACY Our Youth Advocacy Program is a mentoring program where youth are matched one-on-one with volunteer adult mentors.
DEVELOPING CONFIDENT LEADERS
Mentoring is a proven method of promoting social skill development and healthy decisionmaking through teaching by example. Mentees spend at least two hours a week with their Mentor over the course of a minimum of one year. This program acts as a prevention method that effectively increases the youth's communication and problem-solving skills, sense of belonging, and self-worth.
EMPOWERING YOUTH
Mentors empower young people to make smart choices that put them on a path to making better life decisions. 34 youth were served by the Youth Advocacy program this fiscal year.
GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY Mentors and Mentees participate in service projects geared toward teaching them the importance of making a difference in their community. They participate in projects like: - Caroling at a nursing home - Collecting items for the food pantry - Cleaning up local forest preserves
Why Mentor
My mentor is one of the few people who knows me in my soul. She inspires me. I wouldn't be half the person I am without her. - Yasmine, past Mentee
