David and I first met at work, where we quickly became best friends. It was one of those rare connections where conversation came easily, and we found ourselves confiding in each other about everything. Over time, our bond grew deeper, and we became inseparable. We were always by each other’s side, supporting one another through life’s many ups and downs.

One of our most memorable trips together was to Los Angeles, where we went to cheer for the Chiefs. But the game wasn’t the only unforgettable part of that weekend. David had planned something much bigger. He took me to Malibu, where we stood together on the beach, with the waves crashing and the view of LAX in the distance. It was there, overlooking the ocean, that he proposed. It was simple, meaningful, and absolutely perfect.

When it came time to get married, we chose the Adams County Courthouse, surrounded by the intimacy of close family and friends. Followed by a small party at the Dick Brothers Museum Room/The Ratskellar. In true “us” fashion, we kept things fun and low-key, with sandwiches catered by Winkings Market (one of our favorites places). It was a day full of laughter, love, and joy—everything that makes our relationship so special.

Through it all, we’ve always been best friends first. But beyond that, our foundation is rooted in our faith in God. It is by His grace and guidance that our love has grown so strong, and our journey together has been filled with blessings. Our faith, love, and friendship continue to be the cornerstones of our relationship.

A June Wedding

fromMadison

Jason and I went to Quincy Senior High School together, merely just acquaintances. I went away to college and he stayed in Quincy working construction. After I graduated, I moved back home to Quincy, and I started hanging out with some mutual friends of mine and his. I remember seeing him when we were both out with said mutual friends, and I just knew I had to make a move! Jason had joined the military beforehand, so we went our first year and a half of dating apart, tackling long distance. Finally after a year and a half, he was stationed in NC and wanted me to move out there with him. We spent about a year and a half in NC, and then we got stationed out here in Washington. We decided to elope for a couple reasons, one main reason is being all the way out here in Washington, trying to plan a wedding back home in Quincy would be very tough. We

also chose to elope to have that sentimental, one-on-one intimate time together. Jason and I have had to be apart many times due to his military training, and he was due to leave for a deployment soon, so we wanted to cherish that alone time that we could have together. Eloping was so great, I got to center my entire day around Jason and I, and not have the nervousness and stress of having so many other people around and making sure everything was in it’s place. We saved so much money and time eloping, and yet we still had the most beautiful and special day. It did take a little planning, I ended up getting a dress from a bridal shop and had to get it altered. I had to book a photographer, and hair and makeup artist. And I did have to submit a permit form to the National Park, but other than that, it was was very easy to prep and accomplish!

continued on page 20

We also wanted to take advantage of the beautiful state that we live in use our favorite place as our background for our pictures! If you’re thinking about eloping, especially in the mountains somewhere, do it! Don’t hesitate; just do it and you won’t regret it! You will be in awe of the beauty around you, and in awe at getting to marry your best friend in such a beautiful place! Again, we do plan on having a reception later on with all of our friends and family, and when we do finally get to do that, I hopefully plan on using local vendors such as E.Three.Photography for our photographer, and possibly Dicks Brothers Brewery for our reception location!

Devin and I are high school sweethearts! We’ve been together since I was 16 and he was 17. We were best friends and just inseparable. After only a month of dating, he told his parents I was the girl he would marry one day. We went on to date through the rest of high school, went off to college/tech school, and started our careers still as in love as we were in the beginning.

On October 12, 2023 he asked me to marry him! Of course, I said yes. It was the perfect day! It was so great, we decided to get married on the same day just one year later. So, on October 12, 2024 we became Mr. and Mrs. Edmunds! We had the most amazing wedding and couldn’t be more excited to spend our lives together!

fromThe Emrick’s

Hunter and Hilary’s love story began in the halls of their high school back in 2011. Hilary, a senior at the time, couldn’t help but notice Hunter, a junior with a charismatic presence. Although they shared the same social circles, their connection remained dormant.

After graduation, life took them on different paths. Hilary ventured off to Springfield, Missouri, to pursue her college education, while Hunter remained in Quincy to complete his final year of high school and begin his college journey.

Despite the distance, their paths would occasionally intersect during breaks when Hilary returned home. These fleeting encounters kept the flame of the two alive, but circumstances never seemed quite right for them to explore their feelings further.

It wasn’t until 2017 that fate intervened, bringing them closer together. As they rekindled their friendship and began to spend more time together, the chemistry between them became undeniable. Long-distance conversations and visits only strengthened their bond, and soon, Hilary decided to move back to Quincy.

In the fall of 2017, Hunter and Hilary officially became a couple. From that moment on, their love story unfolded. Their journey from high school acquaintances to lifelong partners is a testament to the power of timing and destiny.

10 Essential QuestionsCouples Should Discuss Before Tying the Knot

Marriage is one of the most significant commitments you can make. It’s important to ensure that you and your partner are on the same page about key topics. Here are 10 essential questions every couple should ask each other before walking down the aisle.

1. What are our long-term goals as a couple?

It’s essential to understand each other’s vision for the future. Are you aligned in terms of career aspirations, family planning, and personal goals?

2. How do we handle conflict?

Every couple has disagreements, but what matters most is how you resolve them. Discuss your conflict resolution strategies and whether you’re comfortable with each other’s approaches.

3. What are our views on finances?

Money is one of the leading causes of marital conflict. Discuss how you plan to manage finances, whether you’ll combine accounts, and how you’ll handle spending, saving, and debt.

4. Do we want children, and if so, how many?

Talk openly about your desire (or lack thereof) to have children. If you do want kids, when do you hope to start, and how will parenting roles be divided?

5. How important is religion or spirituality to us?

If one or both of you have religious or spiritual beliefs, it’s essential to discuss how these will influence your life together. Will religion play a role in raising children or how holidays are celebrated?

6. Where do we want to live?

Do you both have a preference for city life, suburbia, or the countryside? Discuss your ideal living arrangements and whether you’re open to relocating for job opportunities or other reasons.

7. What are our expectations about intimacy and physical affection?

Open communication about your needs and expectations regarding physical and emotional intimacy can help prevent misunderstandings and foster a healthy relationship.

8. How will we handle family relationships and boundaries?

Each family has its dynamics, and setting boundaries with in-laws or family members can be challenging. Discuss how you’ll manage these relationships together.

9. What are our thoughts on work-life balance?

Balancing career and personal life is crucial to a happy marriage. Talk about how much time you each plan to dedicate to work, hobbies, and time together as a couple.

10. How do we plan to support each other’s individual growth?

A healthy marriage allows for both partners to grow as individuals. Talk about how you will support each other’s dreams, ambitions, and needs for personal space or hobbies.

Hosting an Heirloom Shower

Hazel and her daughter, Cindy, are cleaning out the China hutch so that Hazel can get ready to move to a senior living apartment. As they remove each dish, the conversation goes something like this:

Cindy: Mom, this is a lovely cake plate. This is what you always used for my birthday cakes. I remember it was angel food cake with “seven-minute” icing and chocolate syrup drizzled down the sides. Oh, I loved that cake!

Hazel: Yes, I have many pictures of you blowing out the candles on that cake. It was on your fifth – no, your sixth – birthday that your little brother Jimmy thought he’d be funny and push your face into the cake (after the candles were blown out). Oh… you were so mad at him!

Cindy (laughing): Yes, it took me two days to get all the syrup out of my hair!

Hazel: So, what do you think we should do with the plate?

This is typical of so many scenes in so many dining rooms these days. The baby boomer generation has treasured “heirlooms,” aka memories that they need to downsize, distribute to family, or donate. They are often reluctant to do so, thinking that it means

giving up on having pretty things, on being able to host family or friends, on living the way they used to. Too often, they are stuck in this reluctance and, by default, leave things for the children or extended family to deal with after they’re gone.

At Golden Bridges, we help these people get “unstuck” and help them “un-stuff”! There are so many ways to downsize before a move and lots of clever ideas for disposing of unwanted items.

•Heirloom shower

Wait, what kind of shower? Well, we give wedding showers and baby showers and “first house/apartment” showers… why not hosting an heirloom shower where you can pass along the stuff, and tell the stories?

An heirloom shower can take many forms:

Wedding Shower

Guest List: Aunts, uncles, grandparents, great aunts and uncles, older cousins

Gifts: Each guest brings the bride and groom a treasured “heirloom”, along with a card that describes the item and tells the story of a time that it was used, a tradition that

was held among the family, the origin of the item, and why they chose that item for the couple.

Traditional: The heirloom item is wrapped, along with the story card. As each item is unwrapped, the bride or groom reads the card and asks the giver to add any details or expand on the story, if they so choose.

Carry-in: All the gifted heirlooms are serving dish related. The giver prepares their specialty and serves it in the item to be gifted. A recipe card can be attached to the container or put in a greeting card to be opened after the meal.

Tea-Time: The host prepares for a tea party with all the finger sandwiches, petit fours and canapes, etc. to serve to the guests. The invited guests may contribute a teapot and bring their own teacup and saucer to leave with the bride. As tea is served, the guests tell the story of their teacup.

First House/Apartment Shower

Cocktail Party: Guests bring a beverage to

help stock the couple’s party pantry, along with a recipe that features their selection and the serving glasses (that have been sitting in their China hutch or bar for many years untouched). It could be a bottle of wine or champagne from their personal cellar or a newly purchased bottle of, say, NA gin. The host prepares ahead of time with cocktail ingredients and snacks, and the guests tell stories of the parties they hosted for family, friends, and co-workers over the years.

White Elephant Regift: Guests bring something they were gifted (for whatever occasion) and regift them to the recipient along with the story of how they got it – from a shower, as a wedding gift, Christmas footed pajamas knitted by the great aunt in Ohio, etc. Each item is described as it is opened, and the recipient (and other guests) get an opportunity to guess who the gift-er is. After their identity is revealed, they get to tell the story of the item.

Baby Shower

Toys: Guests bring a toy that they enjoyed as a child and tell the story of how they used the toy and why it’s special. Note: some antique toys are not safe for children, so the guest should bring a newly purchased toy of the same type that they used.

Baby pictures: Guests bring one of their own baby pictures to share with the group. The photo is attached to the gift wrap, and the parent(s) and other guests have a chance to guess who gave the gift.

Granted, some of these creative ideas are not getting rid of heirlooms… maybe we just got carried away with the fun of the main occasions and reasons to give the gift of memories and stories that are so important for our clients to tell, and so important for the next generation(s) to hear.

If you are looking for a creative way to help the seniors in your family downsize, declutter, and “un-stuff” their living space… It’s your move, Golden Bridges can help.

Popular Flowers to Make Your Day Magical Winter Wedding Wonders:

Winter weddings carry a unique charm—snowflakes, cozy atmospheres, and, of course, breathtaking floral arrangements that complement the season. If you’re planning a winter wedding, you’ll want blooms that reflect the season and add a dash of romance and warmth to your special day. Here are some popular winter flowers that make perfect choices for weddings:

1. Amaryllis: Bold and Beautiful

Amaryllis is a showstopper. With its large, trumpet-shaped blooms, this flower is perfect for making a statement at winter weddings. Often found in deep reds, soft whites, or striking pinks, amaryllis can add a bold touch to your bouquet or floral decorations. It symbolizes strength and beauty, making it an excellent choice for couples who want to incorporate meaning into their floral arrangements.

2. Ranunculus: Delicate and Layered

The ranunculus is known for its rose-like appearance with layers of delicate petals. This flower is available in various colors—from whites and blush tones to rich oranges and deep reds—and adds a romantic touch to any arrangement. Its lightness and beauty make it a versatile flower used in centerpieces, bouquets, or boutonnieres.

3. Anemone: Timeless Elegance

Anemones are popular in winter weddings for their classic yet modern appeal. These delicate flowers typically feature dark centers surrounded by soft white or pastel petals, although they can also be found in deeper hues like purple and burgundy. Anemones symbolize anticipation, making them a lovely metaphor for the beginning of a new chapter in life.

4. Roses: The Year-Round Classic

No flower is as synonymous with love as the rose. Even in winter, roses remain a timeless choice for weddings. Winter brides often lean toward white or deep red roses for a more dramatic, seasonal feel. Pairing roses with greenery like eucalyptus or berries can bring out the wintry essence while still capturing their romantic allure.

5. Poinsettia: Holiday Favorite

While typically associated with Christmas, poinsettias have found their way into winter weddings. Their bold red, white, or pink leaves bring a festive feel, especially for weddings near the holidays. Used in bouquets or venue décor, poinsettias can offer a unique twist on traditional winter floral arrangements.

6. Hellebore: The Winter Rose

Also known as the Christmas rose, hellebore blooms in the colder months, making it an ideal choice for winter weddings. These delicate continued on page 53

flowers come in shades of white, soft pink, and deep purple. Hellebores are perfect for adding a natural, wildflower look to bridal bouquets or centerpieces.

7. Carnations: Versatile and Chic

Carnations are a winter favorite due to their long-lasting nature and versatility. Available in virtually any color, they can be used on their own or as a filler flower. White or red carnations are particularly popular in winter bouquets and arrangements, offering an affordable yet elegant option.

8. Jasmine: Sweetly Scented

Jasmine brings visual beauty and a lovely fragrance to your winter wedding. Known for its delicate white blooms and sweet, intoxicating scent, jasmine works well in bouquets, centerpieces, and hair accessories. It adds an enchanting and ethereal vibe to the overall ambiance.

Winter weddings may lack the abundant blooms of spring or summer, but they make up for it with elegant, unique flowers that reflect the beauty of the season. Whether you opt for bold amaryllis, delicate ranunculus, or timeless roses, the right floral choices will enhance the magic of your winter wonderland wedding.
