An April Wedding
LocalLove
fromPaige
April 27th, 2024 is the day I married my best friend. My husband Carter and I were high school sweethearts. We started dating during my freshman year and his sophomore year. It has been so amazing getting to grow up together and go through many stages of life as a team.
I have been a drag racer since I was a little girl and Carter raced go-karts from a young age, so we already had a lot in common. Once I convinced Carter to make his first pass down the dragstrip, he was hooked and fell in love with this sport as well. Now, we both have our own race cars. We have made so many amazing friendships at the track, and were honored to have many of these people stand by our side and help us to celebrate our special day. Drag racing has made such an impact on our lives that it was no surprise to our guests that we included a few small elements of racing into our wedding day: in our ceremony, unity ceremony, and even the black and white checkered dance floor (which was one of Carter’s favorites!)
We had amazing vendors that helped us to plan a day that perfectly demonstrated our vision. It combined elements of the uniqueness of our relationship with the elegance I had always pictured for our wedding. Our day was everything we had dreamed of and more. It was the perfect reflection of all that we hold dear to our hearts, while getting to celebrate our marriage surrounded by our family and friends!

Hayden and I are high school sweethearts and have been together for almost 8 years. Hayden proposed when I had a year left of pharmacy school, so my entire wedding was planned in between school, working, and studying for my board exams.
I knew I wanted everything about my wedding to scream “bright & colorful,” all within a reasonable budget. I love bright spring colors and tried to incorporate as many colors as possible to the wedding decor. When asked what my wedding colors were, I would always respond with ‘all of them’! Over the next year, I quickly found that every time you mention “wedding,” the price doubles. I was determined to DIY absolutely everything I could. My mom and I made all the artificial flower arrangements, including all centerpieces and bouquets. My mom even made and designed all of my flower girl’s dresses to match my dress, and did all of my alterations!! I became fast friends with Canva for printing and designing all of our wedding stationery. I also had a family member volunteer to fill her outdoor planters with colorful flowers and she delivered a U-Haul full of flower pots (in my colors) to display all around the entrance and patio of the venue! Pointe D’Vine provided a beautiful location for the ceremony and reception and we loved having indoor/outdoor space for the reception.
Choosing a photographer was never a question- Rachel Hahn creates the most beautiful, brightest, clear photos and makes you feel so comfortable in front of the camera! She has been taking our photos for over 5 years now, and she has captured many chapters in our relationship. Our engagement photos took place at the Red Bird Inn, where our friend Becky Barlow has the most beautiful flower garden which fit our theme perfectly! Our
wedding photos have turned out so beautiful, and I would 100% recommend Rachel B Photography to anyone looking for a wedding photographer. She made the day run so smoothly and was adamant on getting the photos I wanted (even when my nieces & nephews weren’t corporating).
We also hired a harpist to play live music at the ceremony which created a nice feel to the ceremony. My mom and I both play the harp, so this was one of my ‘must haves’ for the wedding. We chose to take photos before the ceremony, so we could have the reception immediately following the ceremony and guests would not have to drive or wait for hours between events. We used Mike Howerton Entertainment for the DJ at our reception, they set the atmosphere and made sure it was a fun evening. They made the reception flow so smoothly and made sure that all the special events we wanted to include happen. I cannot recommend them enough. As an avid lover of ice cream, a requirement of mine was to have ice cream at our reception, so I was excited to rent a soft serve ice cream machine from the Shupe Shack, which was a big hit for all of our guests!
Family is important to us and we included many close family members into the wedding ceremony and reception. At the reception we included a special dance with all the nieces and nephews, and instead of throwing a bouquet, I made a special bouquet and gave it to the bride of the couple who had been married the longest- which turned out to be Hayden’s grandparents who have been married almost 63 years. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful wedding day, and it wouldn’t have run as smoothly without all of our family pitching in and helping whenever we needed.

WWedding Ideas:Living Aisles
hen it comes to wedding planning, every couple wants their ceremony to reflect their love story, with personal touches and memorable moments. One of the latest trends to make waves in the wedding world, and we are falling in love with it, is the concept of a “living aisle.” This unique idea transforms the traditional wedding aisle into a lush, vibrant pathway that is not only visually stunning but also environmentally friendly. Here are some living aisle wedding ideas to inspire your big day.
Floral Aisle Gardens
Imagine walking down an aisle flanked by mini gardens of blooming flowers. This idea brings the beauty of a garden wedding into any venue. Consider choosing seasonal flowers that match your wedding colors and theme. For an added touch, choose flowers with sentimental value, such as the ones from your first date or those that grow in your hometown.
Tip: Hire a local florist who specializes in organic or wildflower arrangements to create an authentic garden feel.
Potted Plant Pathway
For a sustainable and reusable option, consider lining your aisle with potted plants. After the wedding, these plants can be given as gifts to guests or used to decorate your new home. Choose a mix of greenery
and flowering plants for a balanced and natural look.
Tip: Use decorative pots that complement your wedding décor. Rustic terracotta, elegant ceramics, or modern metallic pots can all add to the aesthetic.
Herbaceous Aisle
An aisle adorned with aromatic herbs such as lavender, rosemary, and thyme can create a sensory experience for you and your guests. The fragrant scent will linger in the air, adding a memorable touch to your ceremony. Herbs can be planted in decorative containers or woven into garlands and laid along the aisle.
Tip: Incorporate herbs into your wedding favors or reception decor to maintain a cohesive theme.
Grassy Walkway
For an outdoor or boho-themed wedding, a grassy walkway can create a whimsical and earthy atmosphere. Lay down a strip of real or artificial grass to create a soft, green aisle that feels like a meadow. Add wildflowers or fairy lights for an extra touch of magic.
Tip: Ensure the grass is even and secure to avoid any tripping hazards.
Vine-Covered Aisle
Create a romantic and intimate setting with
Tropical Aisle
Bring a touch of the tropics to your wedding with a living aisle featuring tropical plants like palms, orchids, and ferns. This idea is perfect for a destination wedding or to create an exotic ambiance. Use bright, bold colors and large, leafy plants for a lush and vibrant effect.
Tip: Coordinate with your venue to ensure the tropical plants thrive in the ceremony environment.
A living aisle is a beautiful way to make your wedding ceremony stand out and reflect your love for nature. Whether you choose flowers, greenery, herbs, or succulents, the possibilities are endless. This trend adds a unique and personal touch to your wedding and promotes sustainability and eco-friendly practices. As you plan your special day, consider these living aisle ideas to create a magical and memorable walk down the aisle.
an aisle draped in lush vines. Structures like arches or pergolas can support the vines as they create a tunnel of greenery. This idea works beautifully for both indoor and outdoor weddings and can be paired with hanging lanterns or fairy lights for added enchantment.
Tip: Choose fast-growing vines like ivy or wisteria for a full and lush look.
Succulent and Cactus Pathway
For a desert-chic or modern wedding, a pathway lined with succulents and cacti can be both stylish and low-maintenance. These hardy plants are perfect for creating a unique and eye-catching aisle. Mix different shapes and sizes for visual interest.
Tip: Use sand, pebbles, or driftwood to complete the desert look.
Engagements

We have been together over a year and he proposed in downtown Quincy. We have known we wanted to get married since the first date! So much love to give to each other!
fromHaylay Engagements
Brock and I met in 7th grade at Quincy JR High. We were good friends until our sophomore year of high school, we then started dating may of 2017. We’ve been together for 7 years and are getting married next august. When brock proposed he involved our little beagle daisy and had her wear a bandana that said “will you marry me” it was the most sweet and intimate moment. I couldn’t have imagined anything more perfect for us.
A Journey of Love & Commitment Average Length of an Engagement:
Engagements mark a beautiful and exciting phase in a couple’s journey toward marriage. They symbolize commitment and the intention to spend a lifetime together. But how long do engagements typically last? While seemingly simple, this question can have various answers influenced by cultural, personal, and social factors. In this article, we explore the average length of engagements, the factors influencing them, and the pros and cons of short and long engagements.
Historically, engagement length has varied widely. In the past, engagements were often shorter, influenced by societal norms and the practicalities of life. For example, in the early 20th century, engagements might last only a few months as couples moved quickly toward marriage. This was partly due to social expectations and economic necessities.
In contemporary times, the average length of engagements has lengthened. Studies and surveys indicate that modern engagements typically last between 12 to 18 months. Several factors contribute to this trend:
1. Career and Financial Stability: Many couples today prioritize establishing their careers and achieving financial stability before tying the knot. This often means a longer
engagement period to save money and plan a wedding without financial stress.
2. Wedding Planning: The trend toward more elaborate and personalized weddings requires extensive planning. Venues, vendors, and other essential services often must be booked well in advance, contributing to longer engagements.
3. Cohabitation: Increasingly, couples choose to live together before marriage. This period of cohabitation allows them to better understand each other’s habits and compatibility, often leading to a longer engagement as they solidify their commitment.
4. Educational Goals: Many couples pursue higher education and prefer to complete their studies before marriage. This is another factor that can extend the engagement period.
Engagement lengths can also vary significantly based on cultural backgrounds and traditions. For example:
• Western Cultures: A 12 to 18-month engagement is common in many Western countries, allowing ample time for planning and financial preparation.
• Eastern Cultures: In some Eastern cultures, engagements might be shorter, as wedding planning and familial arrangements often follow different timelines and traditions.
• Religious Influences: Religious practices and beliefs can also influence the length of an engagement. Some spiritual traditions encourage shorter engagements to move quickly toward the sanctity of marriage, while others may allow for longer periods of preparation.
Psychological factors can also influence the length of an engagement. The period allows couples to transition from dating to a more serious commitment, providing time to address any concerns or issues before marriage. This time can be crucial for:
• Building Communication Skills: Effective communication is the cornerstone of a successful marriage. A longer engagement allows couples to develop and strengthen their communication skills.
• Conflict Resolution: Every relationship has its conflicts. The engagement period allows couples to learn how to resolve disputes and navigate challenges together.
• Family Dynamics: Engagements also give couples time to understand and integrate into each other’s families, which can be an essential aspect of married life.

Pros and Cons of Short and Long Engagements
Short Engagements
Pros:
• Excitement and Momentum: The excitement of getting engaged and quickly moving to the wedding can create a positive momentum.
• Less Stressful Planning: Short engagements can mean less time for stress and second-guessing wedding details.
• Quick Transition: Couples can quickly transition to married life without prolonged waiting.
Cons:
• Less Time for Planning: A shorter timeframe may lead to rushed planning and the potential loss of desired venues or vendors.
• Financial Pressure: Limited time to save for the wedding can create financial stress.
• Limited Adjustment Period: There is less time to adjust to the idea of marriage and to prepare mentally and emotionally for the commitment.
Long Engagements
Pros:
• Ample Planning Time: More time to plan every detail of the wedding, potentially resulting in a more personalized and elaborate event.
• Financial Preparation: Longer engagements allow couples to save money and budget effectively for the wedding and future.
• Stronger Relationship Foundation: Additional time to strengthen the relationship, resolve conflicts, and build a solid foundation for marriage.
Cons:
• Potential for Complacency: Longer engagements might lead to losing urgency or complacency in wedding planning.
• Extended Stress: Prolonged planning can sometimes lead to extended periods of stress and anxiety over wedding details.
• Changes in Circumstances: Personal or external circumstances might change over time, potentially impacting the relationship or wedding plans.
The average length of an engagement today tends to be around 12 to 18 months, influenced by a combination of career, financial, cultural, and psychological factors. While this period can vary widely depending on individual circumstances, it remains a crucial time for couples to prepare for their future together. Whether short or long, the engagement period is a unique and cherished phase, marking the transition from being partners to becoming lifelong companions.
As societal norms continue to evolve, so too may engagement length trends. However, the underlying purpose remains the same: solidifying the commitment between two people in love and paving the way for a fulfilling and lasting marriage.
for the Autumn Season Wedding Flowers
Fall weddings are a celebration of rich hues and lush textures. As the leaves change and the air turns crisp, the season offers a stunning backdrop for weddings. Choosing the right flowers is key to enhancing this picturesque setting. This article delves into eight flowers perfect for fall weddings, each bringing charm and elegance to the celebration.
Garden Roses
Garden roses, known for their full blooms and delightful fragrances, are a quintessential choice for wedding bouquets and centerpieces. Their layers of petals and soft, romantic appearance add a touch of classic beauty to any arrangement. In fall, opt for shades of deep burgundy, soft peach, or creamy white to complement the season’s palette.
Dahlias
Dahlias are a fall favorite due to their wide range of colors and intricate petal patterns. From bold reds and purples to soft pinks and whites, dahlias bring a vibrant and dynamic element to floral arrangements. Their structured shape and varying sizes make them ideal for both bouquets and larger installations.
Cymbidium Orchids
For a touch of exotic sophistication, cymbidium orchids are an excellent choice. These striking flowers are available in autumn shades like burnt orange, rich brown, and soft green. Their unique appearance and long-lasting nature make them perfect for boutonnieres, corsages, and table arrangements.
Amaranths
Add drama and texture to fall wedding florals with amaranths and their cascading, velvety blooms. Available in deep reds, purples, and
greens, they create a stunning visual impact. Use them in hanging installations, bouquets, or as a striking addition to table centerpieces to enhance the seasonal ambiance.
Pampas Grass
Having become a popular choice for modern weddings, pampas grass offers a blend of rustic charm and bohemian elegance. Its feathery plumes in beige, blush, and tan shades add height and movement to arrangements. Incorporate pampas grass in ceremony backdrops, aisle decor, or even a statement piece in bouquets for a touch of wild beauty.
Calla Lilies
Calla lilies, with their sleek and modern appearance, bring an air of sophistication to any wedding arrangement. These flowers are available in rich fall colors like deep burgundy, plum, and classic ivory. Their elegant, trumpet-like shape makes them perfect for minimalist bouquets, boutonnieres, and chic centerpieces.
continues on page 59
Chrysanthemums
Chrysanthemums, often associated with fall, are a versatile and abundant flower choice. With their myriad of colors and shapes, mums can be used to create lush, textured arrangements. Opt for warm tones like gold, rust, and maroon to capture the season’s essence. Chrysanthemums work well in bouquets, centerpieces, and large floral installations.
Succulents
Succulents add a modern and durable element to fall wedding florals. Their unique shapes and shades of green and blue provide a fresh contrast to more traditional blooms. Use succulents as accents in bouquets, boutonnieres, and table arrangements. They can also double as eco-friendly wedding favors for guests.
Fall weddings offer a rich tapestry of colors and textures; the right flowers can elevate the entire experience. Whether you choose the timeless elegance of garden roses, the vibrant versatility of dahlias, or the modern charm of succulents, each flower brings its own unique beauty to your special day. Embrace the season’s bounty with these stunning floral choices, and create unforgettable memories surrounded by nature’s autumnal splendor.
