Approval of minutes from March 10, 2009 meeting Due to technical malfunction, there are no minutes from the previous meeting

Approval of Bob Youde as CAB Executive Committee Liaison All members were in favor of Bob becoming the CAB Executive Committee Liaison Station Projects for CAB involvement A. Outreach committee to broadcast regions. (Hess) How did the different area stations grow the way they grew? Tom Taylor believed that at one time BSR was looked at as being the quasi public radio station for the state. McCall, Twin Falls, Ketchum/Hailey. Cost for all of stations as of the end of April was $285,334.36 (number based on p­card expenditures). Cost of running Jackpot station is more than most other major areas. Boise accounts for 69% of members. Eastern Idaho audience – we cannot get accurate numbers from arbitron but…KBSW 4200, KBSS 500, KBSJ 500, KBSU­FM 600, KEZJ 600. What kind of outreach can we do in that area over the next 6­8 months that could have some impact? John is going to find out from the president’s office what direction he wants to take with Jackpot. Paula would like to sit in on the committee. So would Bob. So would Janice and Pat. Darin said we need to decide if this is a moral decision or a business decision.

B. Hispanic Radio L.M.A. project (Hess) Hispanic volunteer hosts would like to keep it amongst themselves and there is a member who is willing to help with grant writing. Before we sell the station on the market, John said we want to exhaust this option first. Want to continue the mission of “education”. Also talked about carrying on the student programming.

We have until the end of June to let the university know what our plans are going to be for this station. Marshall is going to help Elva on a committee.

C. Program review committee (Ellis) Coming up on a program change July 1st. Saturdays and Sundays on KBSX. Looking for a group of people to listen to a few programs and give Ele their

feedback on it. That along with a listener survey and Arbitron numbers will determine what happens with the programming. Michelle, Michael, Darin and Janice will help on this committee.

D. Capital Campaign committee (Kloc) Naming opportunities for everything in our new location. Need a group to look at strategies and costs for the move. We want a small group of people that want to help raise money. Camille, Marshall, Michelle, Michael and Janice will all help on a committee.

IV. Station relocation update (Hess) The state board approved the project in April. The University now has permission to move into the building. University would like to move the non­production staff into the building within the year. The production staff would be moved over in about 2 years. Upside is that we are in the building (no one can take the space from us) and are able to show it to donors. Downside is that we are separated as a staff.

Spring pledge drive updates (Smith)

Total dollars raised $239,000. Average gift of $103; 2,300 total pledges. 16 hours of fundraising. Little bit of a decrease in the average gift – down about $7 from the average $107 per pledge. Marshall wanted to know why we chose to do the drive the day after tax day. Ele gave reasons of room availability, no holidays and asking other public radio stations about it­ for the most part all positive feedback. We saved $10,000 in premiums that we did not give away. We saved on employee hours related to the pledge drive. Michelle had concerns for loss of “advertising” opportunities, as well as loss of educational opportunities. Good response to online donations as well. Those who pledged online were given a choice of 3 different premiums. New member count is a little lower than normal as were the number of classical music listeners.

VII. Member Recognition Program (Kloc) Two hours (10­noon) are set aside every Thursday for volunteers to come in and call members to thank them for their membership. Trying to retain memberships.

Need name tags for Mary R. and Michelle H. Need to get parking pass for Darin E. Other: Vida gave update on the marketing/branding campaign. Billboards are up in 8 locations. Movie theater ads are about to start playing. New billboards with the frequencies will be up by tomorrow. Paula wanted to know if there was any chance for the campaign to extend into Twin. Vida verified that there is the potential. Bob would

like to know if there is potential to have print ads localized to our listening areas.

Michelle wanted to know what the objective of the campaign is. John verified that it is to raise awareness.

Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, 2009.
