Update on possible threat if federal funding for Public Broadcasting – John Hess a. CPB Funding and How it Works - $430 million is appropriated by the CPB every year. 21.5 m is given to CPB Operations. System support get 25.8m. Station and Programming Grants $382.7m Of this, Public television gets 287m. Public Radio gets 95.7m This breaks out into Direct grants of 88.9m - of this, BSPR ends up with .43m for FY11 and Program Fund of 6.7m. As federal funding shrinks or goes away, we will see more fund drives and more underwriting messages because we will be more reliant on individual listeners and businesses to provide our funding. In 2010, Americans rated public broadcasting as an “excellent” use of taxpayer dollars, second only to defense. BSPR has joined “170 Million Americans” – a movement to support public broadcasting. John asked the CAB to write to people they know that have a say in the outcome of the vote in January. He will provide talking points for everyone.
