CLIENT FEEDBACK

CAE

Team: Mike Coyle, Michael Williams, James Lovett, & Steve Taylor

"I just wanted to voice RMR’s sincere appreciation for Michael William’s leadership and overall effort on the CAE project located at 4840 Westfield Blvd in Chantilly, VA. Mike continuously went above and beyond throughout the course of this job navigating both RMR and the tenant’s countless requests and changes while also maintaining the project schedule. One particular highlight was the coordination of the tenant’s flight simulator which had to be transported on a flatbed truck from Arlington, TX and then craned into the space on the 3rd floor of the building. Along with being a great communicator, Mike also does whatever it takes to keep the project moving. He has been on site for the last 3+ weeks making sure the project comes to a successful finish now that Steve has been transferred to another job. Mike deserves significant credit for the success of the CAE project and I greatly appreciate that my team had the opportunity to work with him. RMR will certainly request his oversight on future projects."

LUNAR NEW YEAR

It's the year of the Rabbit or Cat (Vietnamese Zodiac).

Why is the Rabbit replaced by the Cat in the Vietnamese Zodiac you ask?

Many believe the Cat's inclusion in the Vietnamese zodiac comes down to etymology. Somewhere in history, the ancient Chinese word for rabbit pronounced "mao" was misinterpreted as "meo" for cat in Vietnamese. Thus began the Year of the Cat as the start of Tết Nguyên Đán (Tết), or Lunar New Year in Vietnam.

Another theory suggests that the cat's association with good fortune and prosperity in Vietnamese culture is why the animal continues to be celebrated today. In particular, it's believed that cats played an important role in Vietnam's prized rice fields:

"Rice is a huge part of Vietnam's agriculture, but with the threat of many rats in the fields, the cats (which can hunt them) are a popular animal for the Vietnamese," Nguyen Hieu Tin, an expert on traditional Vietnamese culture stated.

Tin added that "another explanation is that the Vietnamese don't want to observe two years with a similar animal. They see the mouse [rat] and the rabbit as being closely linked."

Despite the differences, both Chinese New Year and Tết involve putting up New Year decorations, spending time with loved ones and enjoying plenty of good food. Since the lunar cycle is celebrated more widely than just these two countries, it's safe to greet those who observe a Happy Lunar New Year or, you know, just Happy New Year.

Patrick shared superstitions and traditions that surround the beginning of the new year. Sweeping, vacuuming, and throwing away trash represents throwing away your wealth

and prosperity; waiting to do these chores after the holiday brings good luck for the rest of the year. Other fun traditions include gambling and giving money to the younger relatives which represents the passing down of good fortune. Pat's family prepares a rice dish called, Bánh chưng, a square rice patty filled with pork.

Thank you for sharing your traditions and history with us Patrick!
