KNEEHILL VALLEY

Back in 1949 the Kneehill Valley 4-H Beef Club was formed and has been operating for 74 successful years. This year the club has 29 members and 13 cleaver members. Our members have been working all year on market steer projects, carcass steers, heifers, 2 year old and 3 year old cow calf pairs as well as cleaver bottle calves. They have worked on these projects since weigh in on November 5th with the goal of getting them ready for the one day show and sale on May 29th.

The club has had involvement from leaders, parents & thousands of youth, developing strong communication, leadership, organization, grooming and showmanship, just too name a few. Throughout the year members have learned about public speaking, record keeping, marketing, judging, showmanship, grooming, nutrition and feeding their project, as well as what it means to give back to their community by doing highway clean-up, community volunteering and caring for the Charity Steer to raise money for local charities and causes.

Why should you buy a 4-H steer?

Not only are you supporting local youth in agriculture but you are supporting the future generation and in turn you can fill your freezer with some of the best Alberta Beef that you will ever taste!

Rising prices in the stores have affected all of us and being able to fill your freezer or split a steer with family, friends or coworkers ensures that you will be buying the freshest, top quality beef that is customized to what you want.

What do I do with a whole steer?

Split it with family, friends and coworkers. Hand it out as gifts to employees as a bonus. Use it as company advertising and sell it back to the local feedlot, we do all the advertising for you!! Or simply keep it for yourself and have an incredible summer BBQ party!

101- MATTEA BOUVIER

Hello! My name is Mattea Bouvier and this is my fifth year in 4-H. In my opinion the most beneficial part of 4-H is the hand it plays in raising the next generation of farmers who will continue to feed our world. I would now like to introduce you to my show steer for the 2022-2023 4-H year, his name is Marco and he is an Angus Shorthorn Cross. He will be up for auction and shown by myself, May 29th at the Innisfail Auction Market for our annual show and sale. I would also like to take time to thank my last years buyer Dusty Smith with The Dusty Smith Real Estate Team and all of our sponsors for this 4-H year.

Hi, my name is Taen Blake and I’m 16 years old. This is my 7th year in 4-H. My steer this year is a Black/ White Google Eyed Simmental and I named him BULLS EYE. Bulls Eye is a home grown steer and is HORMONE FREE!!! He is a deep bodied steer that will give a lot of meat. The way I feed my steers they are usually graded with AAA meat. Hi, my name is Maddy Vallance. I have been in 4H for 3 years. My steers name is Watson and my heifer’s name is Willow. I am also in 2 different 4H clubs, Noble Riders and Kneehill Valley 4H Beef Club. Some of my interests are horse back riding , drawing, hanging out with the animals and going outside. My name is Natalie Harrison, I am 13 years old and this is my 5th year in 4H. I have 3 projects this year; a steer named Samuel, a heifer named Poppy and a carcass steer named Fred. In my free time I like to play sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, shot put, discus, and I do competitive swimming in the summer. I enjoy 4H because you get to learn more about your animals and it teaches you good life lessons. I would like to thank Fourlane Ford for their continued support with the purchase of my steer. Hello, my name is John Harrison and this is my 4th year in 4-H. This year I only have one animal this year and his name is T-bone, and he is a gelbvieh-cross and a petty good size and will be amazing meat to eat. When I’m not doing 4-H, my hobbies are hockey, playing for the Innisfail flyers, baseball with Innisfail Hawks and golf wherever we can go. Thank you Fourlane Ford for buying my steer last year. My name is Sully Jenkins and this is my 5th year in 4H. My steer is a Galloway/Angus named Sparky. I also play rugby in the springtime, compete in Jiu Jitsu and am a member of the 185 Olds Air Cadet Squadron. I would like to thank Tri S Fertilizer - Gary Stangness for buying my steer last year.

My name is Lincoln Hollman and this is my 4th year as a 4-H member. Some things I like to do in my spare time is to go quading, make goats milk soap and hang out with my family. This year I have five projects: Steer named Sriracha, Carcass Steer-Donut, Heifer-Tibbie, and Cow/Calf-Harvest Moon. Hi, my name is Wacey Hollman, I am 16 years old and this is my 8th year in 4-H. This year I have a Show steer, Carcass steer, a Heifer and a Cow/Calf pair. My Show steers name is ‘Doubt,’ my heifer’s name is ‘Kitty’s Back,’ and my cow’s name is ‘Parkland.’

We are going on year 3 with a Club Calf. This year, his name is ‘Grand Slam,’ we are raising the funds this year to go 100% towards the Diamond 7 Project in Innisfail. Regarding tickets, we will have ticket sales at our Show and Sale on May 29, 2023. Hi my name is Keston Hollman. I am 13 years old, this is my fifth year in 4-H. My hobbies are showing cattle, playing soccer and football. My steers name is Maverick, he loves his scratches, he is very friendly and he would love for you to come see him at the show & sale. 112-CHAYSE HOLLMAN

Hi, my name is Chayse Hollman. I am 12 years old and this is my fourth year in 4-H. This year I have 3 projects. My show steer Jalapeño, my carcass steer Fiftyfive and then also my heifer Kitty. My show steer Jalapeño is a Charolais cross Angus and some how came out silver! My carcass Fifty-five is black and same with my heifer. Some of my hobbies are playing soccer and hanging out with friends! I also enjoy summer junior shows and of course 4-H. I tend to annoy my older brothers which I like doing, and finding new dad jokes. I would like to thank my buyer of my grand champion steer from last year George’s Farm Centre. 113-KAYDEE GIBSON

Hi my name is Kaydee Gibson, I am 14, and this is my 2nd year in 4h. This year I have a steer and heifer project. My steers name is Buck and my heifers name is Bubbles, Bubbles is a commercial black angus and Buck is a black angus cross. Both of them are extremely quiet and super sweet. I would like to thank Innisfail veterinary services and Jacksons Pharmasave for buying my last year’s steer!

114-COLBY HOLLMAN

Hi, my name is Colby Hollman and my steer’s name is Platinum. He is a silver calf with an amazing personality, he is one that is easy to get along with and easy to show. I would like to thank my 2022 steer buyer, Timcon Construction & CIR Realty-John Frere, I really appreciate your support. My animals that I have this year, alongside Platinum, is my heifer, Indy, my cow/ calf pair, Jewel, my 3 year old cow calf pair, Hot Stuff, and my carcass steer, Pax. 115-CARTER

Hi my name is Carter Rutherford and this is my 5th Year in 4-H. My favorite things to do on the weekend are either sports or lay at home and play with my dog. My dog’s name is Ace and my cat’s name is Loki. Some of my hobbies that I love to do are sports. The sports I like to do are hockey and baseball. This year in hockey I was the captain on my team and we got second place, one win away from winning the banner. This baseball season is just starting so I can’t tell you much about it but my favorite position to play is second base.This year in 4-H I’m just having a steer and not a heifer or anything else. Some of the information about my steer is that I let my friend name him and he named him Ramsey. Ramsey in my opinion is a very good looking steer and he is very well behaved. If I go up to him and scratch him without a halter on he just stands there and doesn’t move at all, which is probably my favorite thing about him.

116-CLARK VALLANCE

My steer is a shy eater. He is a blonde belted Galloway. His name is “GD”, short for glazed donut. This is my 1st year of 4H. I enjoy outdoorsy activities. I like petting and playing with my dogs, jumping on the trampoline, going on the quad and climb-hiking. I hope you will buy my steer. He is not too hefty, or skinny. I hope you enjoy the meat. I recommend making a burger. Thank you for your support if you buy my steer. I think he will be tasty.

117-AUBREY FRASER

This has been my third year of 4-H. Besides showing cattle I play hockey, golf and barrel race. This spring has been so much fun because I have been able to attend junior cattle shows with my projects and a cattle fitting clinic. I have really enjoyed working with my steer Maverick, my heifer Phoenix, my two year old cow calf pair Star Flight and Storm and my three year old pair Phoebe and Iceman. I would like to thank Steelhaus Technologies Inc. for purchasing my previous two steers. Maverick has been fun to work with because he is very patient and I have learned so much about clipping and fitting with him. I would like to welcome everyone to our show and sale.

Hello, my name is Kaelyn Howard, I am 16 years old. This is my 8th year in 4H. My steer is named Dougy Bear (named after Doug Hodge). He is a Charolais/Red angus/Hereford/Simmental cross. At the point of show & sale you might notice me having problems showing him because he is so dang tall!! If you are looking to fill your freezer with a long, beefy, big steer, I suggest checking out Doug! (the steer, not the man)

I’m Zane and I have been in the 4-H program for 8 years. This year my calf has been stubborn and tough to train, but I’m glad we made it to the end. WHAT IS A CLEAVER MEMBER?

The Kneehill Valley 4-H Beef Club added a cleaver branch to our club, allowing our younger members to be part of the club as well. Our cleaver members are all 6 or 8 years old and decided to take bottle calves as their projects. These members have worked with their baby calves, halter breaking, feeding and grooming their calves, just like all our other members. Watch for these members in the show ring as they proudly display their projects!

My name is Cooper Sparks and this is my first year in the 4H Cleaver Program. I’m 6 years old and in grade 1 at John Wilson in Innisfail. I like to play hockey, baseball, ski, boat, ride horses and help my Dad on our farm. This year I chose a black heifer calf from our farm, S Over 5 Ranch. I named her Pharrell because her tag said 4L. Hi my name is Hazel Clendinning. This is my first year in 4H and I am excited to have a calf project as a Cleaver member! My calf’s name is Isla. She is a Black Angus heifer calf. Her birthday is on March 20th.

Hi my name is Jace. This is my first year in 4H. My calf’s name is Laynee. Laynee was a twin and is a pure bred Charolais from “Future Farms”. I enjoy Jujitsu and Archery and Reading. I compete in archery tournaments throughout the summer. I would like to be a farmer when I grow up.

Hi my name is Jackson. This is my 2nd year of 4H. My heifer calf’s name is Lucy. Lucy was a twin and is a pure bred Charolais. Lucy is from “Future Farms”. I enjoy playing lacrosse and riding my horses. I also compete in archery competitions throughout the summer. My favourite time of year is calving. I would like to be a rancher when I grow up and a professional lacrosse player.

I am Kirby Wunsch. I am six years old . This is my first year in cleavers. I love my calf, his name is Festus. He is a purebred black angus. I like to help my Dad on the farm. I like to help Dad with the tractors.

LAYNE SPARKS

My name is Layne Sparks and this is my first year joining the 4H Cleaver Program. I’m a Grade 3 student at John Wilson in Innisfail. I love playing hockey, dancing, boating and camping with my family, and farming. This year I picked a black Heifer calf from my farm, S Over 5 Ranch, and named her Adele because her tag said 8L. My name is Walker. I like to ranch with my dad. This is my first year in 4-H. My calf is Tommy. He is a Hereford Angus cross. I love my bull calf.

My name is Wyatt Wunsch. This is my first year in cleavers. My calf’s name is Gunsmoke, he is a purebred black angus. I enjoy leading him around and grooming him. I love to build stuff with snaps and lego. I live on a farm with cows, calves, horses, chicks and pigs.

Tickets will be auctioned off for $25 each on May 29th at the start of the sale. Contact Brad 403-588-3916 or a member if you would like to purchase prior to the sale.

One name will be drawn to win Grand Slam at the end of the sale. Grand Slam can be sent to a local abattoir, with a spot we have reserved. He can be delivered to a location of your choice, sold to a local feedlolot at buyback price or donated back to the club to be sold in the sale.

Proceeds will be donated to the Diamond 7 Project. A project aimed to upgrade baseball diamonds in the town of Innisfail for youth and adults to enjoy for years.
