KNEEHILL V B ack in 1949 the Kneehill Valley 4-H Beef Club was formed and has been operating for 73 successful years. This year the club has 33 members and 5 cleaver members. Our members have been working all year on market steer projects, carcass steers, heifers, 2 year old and 3 year old cow calf pairs as well as cleaver bottle calves. They have worked on these projects since weigh in on November 6th with the goal of getting them ready for the one day show and sale on May 30th.

ABOUT US

T

he club has had involvement from leaders, parents & thousands of youth, developing strong communication, leadership, organization, grooming and showmanship, just too name a few. Throughout the year members have learned about public speaking, record keeping, marketing, judging, showmanship, grooming, nutrition and feeding their project, as well as what it means to give back to their community by doing highway clean-up, community volunteering and caring for the Charity Steer to raise money for local charities and causes.

My name is Sully Jenkins. This is my 3 rd year in 4H and I have three projects this year. My steer Kevin is a Galloway Simmental cross. I have a cow-calf project this year named Lucy and her steer calf Charlie Brown. He is an angus calf like his mother. I would like to thank my steer buyer from last year Kinsella Water Hauling and encourage everyone to come out and support our club in 2022.

Hello! My name is Madelyn Vallance, I live just outside of Penhold. I joined the Kneehill Valley Beef Club because I love animals. My project’s names are Willow and Winston, Willow is a Galloway heifer and Winston is a Galloway steer. I have been in 4H for 2 years now.

My favorite part of 4H, other than the animals, is definitely the public speaking. My show steer has presented challenges throughout the year but has taught me a lot too. Some of my hobbies are horse back riding, also swimming and gymnastics. I’m also a member of the Noble Riders 4H Club. I look forward to seeing you at our 4H show and sale this year. Hopefully you like beef! :)

Hi, my name is Kaydee Gibson. I am 13 years old and this is my first year in 4-H. My steer’s name is Pizzatime and he is a red and black angus cross. My favorite thing so far this year has been working with my steer. Luckily, he is really tame so hopefully he stays that way for show day. I would like to thank my Uncle Walter and Auntie Kelli for letting me get Pizzatime from them.

Good afternoon my name is Kaelyn Howard, I am 15 years old and this will be my 7th year in 4h. Today I will be showing 3 projects, show steer (HWRD Bo), Heifer (PF Black Licorice RLP 4J) and Cow/calf pair ( FISK Wendy 007H ). All of my projects are purebred angus, except for my show steer, he is a angus, hereford and simmental cross. My show steer this year is a full brother to my steer last year, the only difference between them is that my steer this year is deeper and thicker. If you are looking for a steer to fit in your freezer that’s deep gutted, a good muscle to fat ratio and is an absolute powerhouse, I highly suggest checking out my steer.

Hi! I am Melena Stevens and this is my 6th year in 4-H. This year I am president of my 4-H club and love being a leader. Outside of 4-H I am a figure skater and a coach. This is my last year of highschool before I am hopefully off to Saskatchewan to U of S to practice Animal Biology. Hi my name is Taen Blake and I’m 15 years old. This is my 6th year in 4-H. My steer this year is a Red/White Shorthorn and I named him SMOKEY. He started as a handful but I have been feeding and working with this steer so much that he is much quieter. My heifer this year is another purebred shorthorn and I just call her BETSY because it’s shorter than her registered name.

I have 5 projects this year. SHOW STEER (Smokey), Carcass Steer (Bandit), Heifer (Betsy), 2 year old Cow/ Calf (Starbright), and 3 year old Cow/Calf (Majestic Janice aka MJ). 110-AARON CHRISTIAN Hi, my name is Aaron Christian and I am 14 years old.

This is my 6th year in the 4-H program and I have one project, a market steer. My steer’s name is Letterkenny and he is a homegrown Black Angus steer. Letterkenny is growing and gaining weight steadily, so he will be just the right size to fill your freezer for barbecue season. I would like to thank all past and future buyers for their generous support, without which there would not be a 4-H program. 111-ROWAN CHRISTIAN Hey, my name is Rowan Christian and I am 13 years old. This is my 4th year in 4-H and I have two projects, a heifer named Maggie and a market steer named Stuffy. Stuffy is a homegrown Black Angus/Speckle Park steer. He is on the smaller side, so if you want smaller cuts that are flavourful and full of nutrients, Stuffy’s the steer for you! Stop by and have a chat with me at our first in-person sale in two years, and I’ll tell you why Stuffy will give your barbecue something to sing about this season! 112-BRANNAGH DOUGLAS I am Brannagh Douglas, I have been doing 4-H for one year. My steer is named Glitterbomb. His sire is 1F and his dam is 201Z. He is a yearling steer, he has a roan body. He is a Maine-Anjou steer. He loves his grain and silage and hay.

113-NATALIE HARRISON Hi, my name is Natalie Harrison, I am 12 years old and this is my 4th year in 4-H. I have 4 projects this year, a steer, carcass steer, heifer and a cow/calf pair. My steers name is Frank, my heifers name is Alberta, my carcass steers name is Batman with a beard, and my cows name is Zorro and her heifer calf Milkshake. In my free time I like to play sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton, and I do swimming in the summer.

I enjoy 4-H because you get to learn more about your animals, and it teaches me good life lessons. I hope to see you all at the sale.

Howdy ,my name is John Harrison and this is my third year in 4-H. I have a gelbvieh cross as a steer and his name is crush. I only have a steer this year but next year I want a heifer because it will be fun to have two projects. I have been working hard with my calf and he is the heaviest steer I’ve ever had in all my years of 4-H. He is a nice looking calf and I’m going do some more work with him before the show. When I’m not working with my calf I play hockey and baseball. It is fun to work with my calf I have a lot of friends in my 4-H club it is fun to play with friends and learn a lot. I hope you buy my calf this year because it will sizzle on your BBQ so don’t wait it will be to late.

Hi, my name is Kaden Hollman, I have been in 4H for 4 years. This year I have a steer named General Lee and a carcass steer named Dom. I also have a heifer named Vintage. I love it in 4-H because all of the stuff that I have learned is very helpful for me and my animals. This year in 4-H I have a show steer, a carcass steer and a heifer project. I would like to thank Old Gate Farms for buying my steer last year. Hi! My name is Wacey Hollman. I am 15 years old, this is my 7 year in 4-H. For this year, I have a Show Steer, Carcass Steer, and a Heifer. My Show Steers name is supposedly, ‘End of the Line,’ and my Heifers name is ‘Parkland.’ For this year, we are doing another charity steer. His name is $ JACKPOT $. We are splitting the money we raise 50/50 for the Innisfail Hospital, and the Innisfail Heli-Pad. Each ticket is $25. We will have ticket sales at our Show and Sale, on May 30, 2022. The sale will be broadcasted online

My name Kylie Hausch and I moved out of the city last summer. My steers name is Coconut. My hobbies are cross country skiing, quadding and art. My steer is really calm and he loves to be brushed.

My name is Brett Hausch and my steers name is Cracker Jack. My hobbies are hockey, baseball, waterskiing and most other sports. This is my first year in 4H. Thanks for considering supporting the 4H club.

This has been my second year of 4-H. Besides showing cattle I play hockey, golf and barrel race. This spring has been so much fun because I have been able to attend junior cattle shows with my projects. I have really enjoyed working with my steer Qibli, my heifer Star Flight and my cow calf pair Phoebe and Princess Peach. All three of my projects are sired by Monopoly and my heifer and cow are full siblings. I would like to thank Steelhaus Technologies Inc. for purchasing my steer Harv last year and allowing me to show him at the Calgary Stampede Steer Show and the Canadian Charolais Youth Associations junior show. Having Harv as a partner taught me so much and I really appreciated the opportunity. Qibli has been fun to work with because even though he is named after a dragon, he has been a sweetheart. I would like to welcome everyone to our show and sale.

This year my calf (Felipe) has been very well tempered, cooperative, has been an overall quality animal, and I am excited to present him this year. My main reason for being in 4-H is to widen my range of experience through differing lenses, and different aspects of life, the other reason is to aid me go to post-secondary. My name is Ethan Olson, I am 12 years old and this is my 4th year in 4H. I am a grade 6 student at Innisfail Middle School. I enjoy Dirt Biking, Snowboarding and Wakeboarding. My steer this year is a Speckled Park named Jonathan. His mom was a heifer and didn’t like him so we had to bottle feed him which was my job until we found him a new Mom. I want to thank Sure Shot Environmental Ltd. for buying my steer last year. I hoped they enjoyed eating good beef ! I am excited to see all the buyers at our show and sale again this year!

My name is Makenna Howard and my steers name is Brooster. This is my fifth year in 4-H. My steer is a black angus with a black body and a white face.

Brooster loves to eat food and get scratches. He is a bit hard to lead, it was a hard to halter break him. He can be a bit lazy but that’s better than a crazy steer that will run you over. He is probably one of my best looking steers and he has a lot of potential to win reserve or grand champion. He is a big steer and should weigh a lot for the show. I am very excited to show him at the 2022 show and sale.

She is black and white face. I also like to ride my horses and reading books about horses.

AUSTIN HOLLMAN Hi, my name is Austin, this is my first year in the cleaver program. I have a bottle calf and her name is Twizzler. I like my calf because she is playful and I can lead her.

Some of my hobbies are skiing, hanging out with my family and sometimes I like to go biking and quading with my brothers.

JACKSON EVANS Hi, I am Jackson Evans. I am seven years old. This my first year in 4H as a cleaver. My 4H calf’s name is Muffin. She is a Holstein Angus cross heifer. She is a brownish black colour. When I grow up I would like to be a rancher. I enjoy writing and singing songs with my guitar. I enjoy archery. I like snowboarding in the winter and rodeoing in the summer with my horse Judge.

PAISLEY DOUGLAS My name is Paisley, I am 7 years old and this is my first year in 4-H. I love to eat chips. My favorite thing about 4-H is when we made our baby calf halters and making friends.

My calf’s name is Watermelon. She is a sweetheart, I love her. She does not like the halter.

WHAT IS A CLEAVER MEMBER? This year the Kneehill Valley 4-H Beef Club added a cleaver branch to our club, allowing our younger members to be part of the club as well. Our cleaver members are all 7 or 8 years old and decided to take bottle calves as their projects.

These members have worked with their baby calves, halter breaking, feeding and grooming their calves, just like all our other members. Watch for these members in the show ring as they proudly display their projects!

One name will be drawn to win Jackpot at the end of the sale. Jackpot can be sent to a local abattoir, with a spot we have reserved. He can be delivered to a location of your choice, sold to a local feedlolot at buyback price or donated back to the club to be sold in the sale.

Proceeds will be split between the two chosen charities/causes.
