Welcome to the 2023 Gelbvieh Advantage Bull Sale. The past year has brought all sorts of challenges and new adventures for our family. The agriculture industry is one that we are proud to be part of. To watch the strength, diversity and resilience of the people involved in the industry, as the world strives to find a new “normal”, post covid. The quality of animals have improved in strides, as we all make hard cuts to keep only the profitable ones around and genetics that have stood the test of time. We have watched many farms work to find new ways to contact retail customers, offering farm to plate direct sales or diversifiying and others that have chosen to make the hard decision to sell their own farms to go work for other operations. No matter where the path has led you along the way, we are fortunate to even be a small part of it and call ourselves seedstock producers.

This year we chose to take a leap and step back out into the show ring after a few years. Our boys have taken an interest in showing and we figured no better place spend family time and teach them valuable lessons than the victories and failures that come with the show road. We were able to attend the Canadian Junior Gelbvieh National show, Farmfair International as well as the boys 4H competition and brought home Supreme Champion Female in all the shows that we attended this year, along with many other banners. It truly was a year to remember. To top it all off we were named Purebred Breeder of the Year by the GAA/BC. We were honored and humbled to say the least.

We are excited to share with you this year’s edition of long yearling bulls that we have to offer. Many of these bulls share the same genetics as the females that we packed out all summer and fall and they are ones that we will stand behind and are proud to offer. These seven bulls are the cream of the crop and would be a positive step in any operation, whether that be a commercial or purebred situation, there is truly a bull for everyone.

Jump Start 1J is one of the deepest ribbed, thickes topped bulls in this year’s offering. He goes back to one of Nicole’s original purebred females, NGC Majestic Angel 2L. Angel was a female that was hard to fault in her foot design, depth of rib and structural soundness. She was successful both in and out of the show ring and we are glad to see many of these attributes reflected in 1J.

We would also like to thank Brad and Nicole Hollman and their boys from BNH Livestock for all of their help and for joining us once again to bring you an exciting and impressive set of bulls that will get out and work for you and your herd for many years ahead.

In late summer we supplement the bulls with a low energy, high protein pellet and then they are weaned with the pellets in their pen. They are slowly transitioned to a TMR ration of corn silage, hay, a high-quality mineral and a minimal amount of rolled barley. We feed to attain a 3 to 3.5 lb per day gain. The mix is developed together with our nutritionist at Country Junction Feeds in Wetaskiwin.

We strive for and are proud of the quality of our bulls, their quiet dispositions as well as the longevity of all of our animals. We have this sale every year so that we can share our “Gelbvieh Advantage” with you and your herd!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DLMS FARM GATE TIMED AUCTION WITH EXTENDED BIDDING:

1.Visit dlms.ca and follow the link to the DLMS Farm Gate timed auction site www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your username and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions.

2. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity.

3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest.

4. At closing time of the sale the entire sale will extend bidding if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after close time will extend the sale by the time listed on each sale. In Most cases the time gets shorter the longer in to extended bidding the sale is. When no bidding occurs for the extended time the computer will declare the sale finished.

FAQ:

WHAT IS RACEHORSE STYLE SALE CLOSE? Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.

HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK? When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.

Terms & Conditions

Shipping/Delivery/Pickup:

Consignors will assist in coordination of delivery and will get bulls to central points within a 300km radius of origin. Consignors will feed and manage bulls until April 1/2023, anything beyond this date must be arranged at time of sale. All bulls remaining at the farm require insurance. US purchases: Consignors will provide necessary health papers. Buyer will be in charge of trucking arrangements and costs.

Sale Animal Preview:

Open House March 9-11th. Viewing available at Brittain Farms, Falun, AB (West of hwy 2 on hwy 13. Then 1/4 mile west of rge rd 275. South side of highway) or BNH Livestock, Red Deer County, AB. (Approx 15km east of Innisfail on hwy 590. North a mile and a half on range road 270)

Breeder Guarantee:

Respective breeders guarantee our bulls to be sound, fertile and reproductive in accordance with the rules and regulations set out by the Canadian Gelbvieh Association for the first breeding season. Claims must be made by Sept 1st of the year of purchase. If a problem occurs, please contact individual breeders immediately and we provide a suitable reeplacement, if available, or a sale credit. This guarantee does not cover death, injury or mismanagement. Our goal is to have you satisfied with your Gelbvieh Advantage bull.
