Life is filled with so much ‘busyness’ and those activity levels are reflected in the movement here at The Shoreline. The hum of this community is evident and visible in the Café with the shared moments over coffee, lovely sweet treats and the card and table games. In the Pavilion with our activities including indoor bowls, exercises, events and visiting choirs. And on the floors of all our buildings with activities, and many old and new relationships forming daily. We love to celebrate and mark special occasions here at The Shoreline. We have had some special and significant events over recent months and will continue to do so. Some of those events bring tears of joy and tears of sadness to our eyes, however as a community we do it together.
As we prepare for Christmas and the upcoming holidays, we wish you safety, peace and love.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR 2025 TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES.
Dear Residents, families and staff,
What a busy few months we have had, and we now look ahead to a busy close to the year 2024 as we prepare for some festive upcoming events in December.
We will be having visits from the Coffs Harbour City Choir, Harbour Lights Choir, and the Coffs Harbour Pipes and Drum band, all adding some colour to our December festivities.
On the 11th of December, we will be having a special resident Christmas party which will include a Christmas Parade, and this is open for all those who would like to join in.
Our independent living residents will also enjoy end of year festivities with a Christmas party and special Christmas Eve lunch put on by our very own Chef Andy!
Our Christmas decorations are up and looking festive ….who doesn’t love to see the decorated trees and wreaths around every turn? We welcomed all hands to join in the decorating fun, putting smiles on faces as we celebrate the jolly season!
Don’t forget we have our Shoreline App available to all of our residents, which is provided for us to post photos and messages to your family and friends.
If you would like assistance with how to use the App, please ask Concierge and they will direct you to the right person.
The Shoreline team members can also post ‘happy snaps’ on your behalf as well so the wider community at The Shoreline can see them if you choose.
I would like to remind everyone that your safety is our main priority here at The Shoreline. If you are feeling unwell, having flu-like symptoms, and/or are a close contact with COVID, please refrain from visiting residential aged care.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2025 to you all,
It is with great anticipation that we are sharing this news, Owen Lednor will be stepping into the role of General Manager of The Shoreline, effective December 9, 2024. We are beyond pleased that he will be taking on this role, joining our already existing incredible and dedicated team. Owen is committed to continuing the incredible journey of The Shoreline, pushing the boundaries for us to become the best ageing site on the North Coast of NSW.
Owen has a strong background, having worked for other providers in multiple areas including Residential Aged Care, Community Care, Retirement Villages, and GP medical centres. Owen was a part of the Commissioning of our Shoreline Residential Aged Care and worked as our Director of Care for some time before moving on to complete consulting work throughout Bachrach Naumburger Group. With his strong nursing, leadership & management background, we know he will continue to push The Shoreline's successes. Together with the existing team, they will continue enhancing the well-being of those we serve whilst fostering a positive and supportive workplace culture for our team.
Owen will start officially on the 9th of December, and he keeps an open-door policy, welcoming the opportunity for collaboration, feedback, and meaningful discussions. Owen won’t be in his office all the time though, as we do expect him to get out and about! It is important to note that Owen will be on-site in a week-on / week-off pattern initially as he is still wrapping up some work in other areas. We would like to ask that you join us in warmly welcoming Owen in his new role as General Manager for The Shoreline.
Warm regards,
Steve Gooley, General Manager Bachrach Naumburger Group
Des grew up in a little place called Illabo, in the Riverina in NSW.
Des worked hard in school enjoying his learning years. He recalls well the mischief he got up to balanced with a lot of hard work.
School was not the only part of his day. His days started very early lighting the fire, catching the early train into school, walking from the station to school, studying the day away, then coming home to work or do his piano lessons before dinner was served.
Des went on to receive a scholarship to study teaching at Wagga College. His love for teaching was initially questioned as he had an issue with the eyesight in
one eye. This didn’t hold him back. He studied teaching and enjoyed his early days teaching kids woodwork. He loved it. He loved to teach. He started as a casual teacher and worked his way up being a Principal.
He proudly loves to share, that of the 7 schools he was a teacher or Principal at, all of them had an increase in attendance. His one rule was ‘don’t do as I do, do as I say’. He was tough on discipline and stands by the benefits of it. Just ask his kids!
Both Des and his wife Carmel enjoyed tutoring children, and very warmly recall taking home 9 little children after MASS to feed them and tutor them.
Des and Carmel have 5 girls and 1 boy, 19 grandchildren, 9 great children and many nieces and nephews.
Des loves living here at The Shoreline. The staff are brilliant, the food is great and the service is amazing!
Thank you Des!!
It’s time to wind up the year that was 2024!
So much has happened in this past year but let’s just reflect on the last quarter.
We have enjoyed BBQ’s, Happy Hour’s, Barefoot Bowling, Outings, Melbourne Cup Day, and will close out the year with a Christmas Sausage Sizzle, Christmas Eve lunch and hopefully some quiet time as we slow down just a little and enjoy the Christmas break.
We continue to keep our residents as fit and healthy as possible with a variety of classes and activities that stimulate the muscles in the body and the muscles of the mind.
Its nothing new to any of us hearing about the benefits of social activities and hobbies, especially in our ageing population. The impact of this has been proven to lower the risk of developing many health problems.
Our residents continue to test that theory with a bounty of activities being participated in daily including Tai Chi, Yogalates, meditation, dance, weight training, card games and table games. Just to name a few.
If you have any more suggested activities, please come and see me anytime and we can look at adding it to our calendar.
Merry Christmas everyone, I look forward to what the new year 2025 brings for us all!

This is Gil. Gil is a spritely 98 years young.
Gil starts each day with a 3 min exercise bike ride on his balcony, followed by a walk with his wheely walker down to Park Beach Rd and all washed down with a homemade breakfast of fresh squeezed juice and cereal.
Gil is an inspiration to his family, friends and neighbours here at The Shoreline.
Gil’s life began in North Sydney and saw him living in Parramatta for quite some time.
As a young 18-year-old he joined the Airforce and went on to become an aircraft mechanic working for ANA. Most aircraft spent time in the hangars overnight which meant most of Gil’s workday was at night working on the planes.
After having met and marrying Rita, the night shift was not ideal, so he left and changed focus from planes to cars, becoming a motor mechanic. With his wife Rita, they built a house out at Rydalmere.
After moving to Sawtell following retirement, Gil’s wife passed away, nearly 30 years ago now.
Life moved on for Gil, and he enjoyed living in Sawtell maintaining his property, mowing lawns and keeping a garden, until he realised it was getting to be more than he could keep up with.
Watching the fences go up near the Park Beach Plaza, and keeping an eye on construction, Gil entertained the idea
of checking it out when the apartments started selling.
The rest is history.
Words of advice from Gil on living a long life…… being sociable with people, being nice with people and keeping active and stress less.
You will often find Gil striking up a conversation with anyone and everyone he passes.
Say Hi to Gil next time you see him out and about here at The Shoreline.
As Spring draws to a close and we transition into the balmy summer months and as the holiday and Christmas season approaches, it is important to take a moment to reflect on the importance of our loved ones during this special time of year.
The past three months at the Shoreline have been filled with excitement and memorable experiences. Our residents had the opportunity to embark on a day trip to visit the National Holden Motor Museum at The Bunker here in Coffs Harbour, where they marvelled at the impressive collection of vehicles and reminisced about their younger days, families, and travels.
Our residents have continued to enjoy their activity calendar, which includes movies in the Cinema, Friday Happy Hour afternoons, Forever Fit with Henry, Seated Dance with Mandy and Fitness and Meditation with Kim. The popular table game, Rummikub, is run by our ILU resident Marie, and enjoyed on a Saturday afternoon regularly. Our residents continue to work on their knitting projects among other activities and I also enjoy offering our residents Reiki.
We have introduced Mini Facial Massages for our residents, and they have been popular.
Our resident Des H has consistently delighted our residents with his
musical expertise and music appreciation most recently with a selection of ABBA’s greatest hits.
In October we commemorated Spiritual Care Week. During this observance, Keith Logue & Sons delivered a presentation on the subject of pre-funeral planning requirements, proving an informative discussion around planning your funeral.
During our memorial service, we took a moment to reflect on the lives of our departed residents and to honour their memory.
Remembrance Day served as a solemn occasion to pay tribute and commemorate the brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country.
It was a delight for our residents to host a visit from local Coffs Harbour schools. The children engaged in singing and storytelling activities with our residents, creating a memorable and enjoyable experience for all involved.
This year, we have been fortunate to welcome a number of dedicated and compassionate volunteers who have enriched the lives of our residents through their cultural contributions, fostering social connections and cultivating professional relationships. Our dedicated volunteers continue to enhance the lives of our residents.
Looking ahead to the coming year, we are enthusiastically planning a series of picnics by the ocean and BBQs, which promise to be delightful occasions for our residents to socialise and enjoy the outdoors.
May you have a joyous Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Further to our residents, I support our staff who need care, a listening ear, or shoulder to cry on during good and
bad times.
My aim is to be a source of strength, comfort and hope, cultivating a sense of community and belonging that supports positive ageing through faith and spirituality, for holistic health and wellbeing.
