Brand Guidelines 2024

NSEY

Brand guidelines

A new brand identity has been created for Northern Schools Early Years (NSEY). It includes a logo, graphic devices, colour palette, typefaces and language guide. These guidelines have been designed to ensure the Northern Schools Early Years identity is used in a correct and consistent way, and to provide a cohesive and easy to understand design system for our audiences.

Section 1

Visual Identity

Logomark

This logo embodies the unity of community, children, parents, and educators converging together. It illustrates connection and diversity through its vibrant colors, symbolizing inclusivity and collaboration. The easily recognisable icon features colored shapes that represent the diverse community and educators, arranged in a circular fashion to signify continuous care and support.

This icon embodies the values of community, connectedness, and ongoing support. It can also be interpreted as a group of children or community members raising their arms in unity.

Primary logomark

The primary logomark is the preferred version in most cases, though the acronym version may be substituted where necessary. For all formal communications the primary logomark should be used.

Acronym logomark with or without tagline

The acronym logomark may be used in any non formal communications either with or without the tagline.

Logo colour variations

The logomark has a full colour, reversed and mono version which have different uses depending on their application. The full colour primary logomark is the preferred version and should be used where possible. The acronym version may also be used in place of the primary version if needed.

The reversed versions are for use on solid background colours only, with the colours being from the approved palette as described in this guide.

The mono version should only ever be used on a white background and only as 100% black. No other mono colour version is permissable.

Logo clear space

The NSEY logo must be used with clear space around it, ensuring it’s integrity in the design from other elements. The exclusion zone is equal to the capital N in the logo as indicated. This is the minimum space allowed between the logo and other elements. No other elements should intrude into this boundary area.

Minimum logo sizes

The NSEY logo has minimum allowable size to ensure legibility and prominence. It has no maximum size limit.

Do not resize any parts of the logo. The logo must be resized so all elements scale together.

Do not move any part of the logo

Do not squash or stretch the logo.

Incorrect logo usage

Consistency is key with branding. The NSEY logo has been designed to work in a specific way across a range of mediums.

In order to keep the branding consistent the logo should be used only as described. Here are examples of what NOT to do when using the logo.

Do not rotate the logo

Do not recolour the logo

Do not use the full colour logo over an image

Logo placement

It is important that the logo is consistently positioned. The preferred placement of the logo is at the top left of all material.

The logo should always be the first element in any layout and sized proportionally so that it has prominence in the design.

Other graphic elements

NSEY has a number of other graphical elements which are used to make up the brand style aside from the logo.

These range from the solid background frames with one rounded corner, to the paint splotches with a fine circle and white frames around all images.

This style guide has been designed using these elements so you can see a real life example of their application. There are further real life examples later in this guide.

Section 2 Colours

Colour palette

The NSEY colour palette consists of 7 primary colours that can be used interchangeably throughout any design.

Dark green should be used as the main background frame colour and for most main headings.

Section 5 Imagery

Brand imagery

Images should reflect a positive and welcoming environment, with a diverse and inclusive community representing families living in North Melbourne.

Framing

Images should be contained within frames so that they do not appear by themselves in the flow of a layout design. Circular frames should be used as indicated here for the main ‘hero’ images, while secondary imagery should always be locked up with a rounded corner frame as shown.
