Black Men Build is a grassroots membership organization whose mission is to give Black Men and their families all the tools necessary to become a powerful organized political force for liberation. We recruit, develop, and organize Black Men in ways that no other organization is doing with a commitment to love, grace, accountability, and power. We are bringing Black men into the movement for racial, gender, and social justice through healing, power-building campaigns, and political education.
Job Overview:
The Co-lead Field Organizer for our Columbus Hub will spearhead efforts to engage, recruit, and mobilize support Black men in the city of Columbus through outreach, advocacy, and organizing. This position requires a strong commitment to organization, relationship building, skill building, and community building.
This position is responsible for maintaining a physical community location, leading relevant campaigns, political education, organizing community survival programming, designing and implementing membership strategy, and ensuring the alignment of activities with BMB's mission and objectives.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate embodied leadership—modeling integrity, emotional intelligence, and empathy—while leading organizing efforts, resolving conflicts in support , and facilitating the personal and collective growth of the community They will also be dedicated to their own leadership development and continuously building skills to strengthen their capacity as an effective leader
Key Responsibilities:
● Program Implementation:
○ Act as the liaison between the hub and the national organization.
■ Provide regular reports to the national organization on local activities and impact.
○ Implement and oversee the execution of BMB programs at the local level.
○ Ensure that all activities align with the organization's overall mission and objectives.
○ Collaborate with other organizations and institutions to further the mission of Black Men Build.
○ Organize and lead community survival programs to address the immediate needs of the community populations while fostering self-sufficiency and empowerment; highlighting the need for proactive, grassroots efforts to inequity fostering a sense of collective responsibility and solidarity.
● Hub Operations
○ Identify, open, and/or maintain a physical space from which BMB activities can be coordinated and implemented; ensuring a clean and safe environment
○ Work alongside the hub manager, if applicable, to oversee the day to day operations of the Hub and ensure effective operations for all programs.

○ Monitor and evaluate initiatives, making adjustments as needed.
○ Keep detailed and accurate operational activities
● Communications & Marketing

○ Represent Black Men and events to further the organization’s goals.
○ Develop and manage communication strategies to keep the community informed and engaged, including newsletters, social media, and outreach materials.
● Membership Recruitment, Retention, & Development:
○ Recruit and engage community members in BMB programming.
○ Facilitate the growth and sustainability of circles.
○ Effectively utilize canvassing, phone banking, one on one meetings, digital strategy, etc. to recruit, engage, and retain potential members and members.
○ Work closely with committees survival programs, communications, fundraising, and political education to ensure coordinated efforts.
Qualifications:
● Proven experience in community organizing, grassroots campaigns, or advocacy work.
● Strong knowledge of issues facing Black communities, with a focus on the specific challenges facing Black men.
● Excellent written and oral communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
● Demonstrated commitment to political education, social justice, and empowerment of the Black community
● Experience in the recruitment, retention, and reactivation of a membership base.
● Proficiency in using social media and other digital tools for organizing and outreach.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Familiarity with the local community in question and its key stakeholders.
● Experience working in or with organizations focused on racial equity and social justice.
● Proficiency in Spanish or another language is a plus.
