THE ORGANIZATION:

Black Men Build is a fiscally sponsored grassroots membership organization whose mission is to give Black Men and their families all the tools necessary to become a powerful organized political force for liberation. We recruit, develop, and organize Black Men in ways that no other organization is doing with a commitment to love, grace, accountability, and power We are bringing Black men into the movement for racial, gender, and social justice through healing, power-building campaigns, and political education

NATURE OF POSITION:

Black Men Build is seeking a highly motivated and strategic-minded individual to fill the role of Field Director The Field Director role is a remote position that will regularly visit and work from our various hubs and operational sites across the country and report directly to the executive team The Field Director is responsible for managing our field operations, playing a key role in the development of the field team , implementing organizational strategies, building community relationships, managing resources and driving initiatives that contribute to the overall goals of Black Men Build

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Develops field plan The Field Director will take the goals laid out in the BMB 2024 Strategic report and put together the pieces to write a field plan that will accomplish the stated goals of the organization

● Manages and ensures all field goals and metrics are met. The Field Director is responsible for the implementation of the field program, including but not limited to achieving financial, operational and membership goals

● Reports appropriately. The Field Director will be collecting metrics and reporting to ensure that qualitative information on field activities and community engagement is captured and shared with the executive leadership.

● Builds a strong field program The Field Director will manage the field organizers including facilitating check-ins, working with them in the field, and providing support, motivation, and accountability

● Engage with local communities The Field Director will help to develop and execute community engagement strategies to connect with Black communities around our hubs and operational areas, understand their needs, and foster collaboration They will establish and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders Oversee grassroots initiatives, campaigns and events that align with the organization's mission and goals

● Training and peer-to-peer Director will train field organizers and manage the training and su ponsible for being trained and training the field team in the approp ems They will work with the Managing Director to create a ladder of engagement for field staff

● Engage in Inter-Organizational Relationship Building. The Field Director will Cultivate and maintain relationships with progressive and radical organizations, coalitions and alliances to influence positive change. It’s essential for the organization that the Field Director stay informed about developments within the movement ecosystem and provide timely updates to the organization's leadership

● Budget Oversight. The Field Director will collaborate with the managing director to ensure responsible and efficient allocation of resources for field operations

QUALIFICATIONS

The Field Director must have a commitment to the movement for Black liberation with an understanding of the movement’s history and goals. They are encouraged to be a member of Black Men Build or become a member and remain so while employed by the Black men Build They must be able to work independently while advancing projects and programs that convey these goals by working with organizers, staff, members, and community activists in high-pressure situations and under difficult deadlines. The Field Director must direct the activities listed above while following the priorities and work plan determined by the collective leadership of Black Men Build

Excellent verbal communication skills are essential, including the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse ethnic, racial, age, gender, educational, occupational, and socio-economic backgrounds The Field Director should be able to demonstrate a willingness along with relevant experience in dealing with interpersonal conflict, as well as developing processes for accountability and resolution Skills necessary to design and lead workshops aimed at leadership and volunteer development are very important. Preferred written communication skills include the ability to produce newsletters, leaflets, basic phone and walk scripts, work plans, and project reports

The Field Director must have a valid driver’s license, continuous use of a reliable vehicle, automobile liability insurance, and be willing to travel on a regular basis Travel out-of-state will be necessary Overnight travel will be infrequent but may be required Previous grassroots organizing experience is necessary, with previous field department leadership experience highly desired. Previous experience working in, with, or for radical Black organizations is highly desired.

Computer skills are required, including knowledge and extensive use of Google Workspace, e-mail, Zoom, MS Word, the Internet, Excel, and social media with a working knowledge of PowerPoint. Beyond these technical skills are the people and organizational skills required to carry out the priorities outlined above A demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others, especially in the context of a political field operation, is highly desired
